I threw my arms around his strong chest and he held me tight. I may have gone into the library to get away from everyone, but it sure was wonderful to see him.

We both pretended like the librarian wasn’t right there glaring at us.

“Keira, what the hell?” he asked. “We’ve been looking all over for you. You even missed lunch. And the rumor going around is Professor Smythe is out for blood.”

He was right. My stomach rumbled just thinking about food. In the craziness of last night and this morning I had missed breakfast too. I was starving.

Malachai must have seen my face because he broke into a wide grin that made his eyes twinkle. “Thought so, I brought you a sandwich.” He pointed to his backpack.

“There’s no eating in the library!” the librarian spat out, causing Malachai and I to burst into laughter.

“There’s no talking either,” she continued.

“Okay, okay,” Malachai said making the calm down gesture with his hands.

Then he turned to me and raised an eyebrow. Leaning down toward me, his breath on my neck, he whispered to me. “Now then. Let’s go see what you were up to that was so important, naughty girl.”

A thrill washed over my core at the feel of his warm breath on my ear. And then again at the implications of his words. I felt my cheeks heat and turned to glance at the librarian to see if she was still paying attention, but luckily, she had gone back to being engrossed in her book.

I led Malachai deep into the library to the back room where I had my backpack stashed. I was so grateful that he was here, and that he remembered who I was.

As soon as we got to my comfy green chair, he turned to face me and leaned down toward me with that gleam in his eyes. I grabbed his head and ran my fingers through his hair.

He teased me with his smoldering golden gaze for a moment and then he pressed his lips to mine. He kissed me deeply and I answered with a ravenous hunger of my own as our tongues danced and my skin was on fire. After a minute or two, he broke off the kiss and gave me a surprised look. “It feels like you missed me.”

I gave him my best flirty look. “Always.”

“Well, first things first.” He took off his backpack and set it next to mine and then pulled out the sandwich. “You look hungry. And what the hell are you doing in here?”

I took the sandwich happily. “Hiding from Smythe,” I answered.

“That makes sense.” He sat down on a beige colored chair next to mine. I slumped into my chair as well and went to work devouring the sandwich, barely stopping to breathe.

Malachai watched me like he was seeing me for the first time. “When you’re done with that, you’re going to tell me what the hell is going on with you. Yes?”

I nodded at him earnestly. In my defense I would have agreed to almost anything for the plain cafeteria ham and cheese on white that he handed to me. It was the best thing I’d ever eaten.

In fact, it was only as I was finishing it up and starting to feel better that I realized that I was going to have to tell him something.

And I had no intention whatsoever of telling him the truth until I opened my mouth and looked into those golden eyes. Then it all came tumbling out whether I liked it or not.

“He said he was going to take you guys away from me. Like I never existed at all. Make you forget about me forever. Malachai, I just can’t imagine that. I came here to try to read this book I found. To try to find a way to stop him.”

Malachai got out of his chair, crossed to mine and knelt down, caressing my hair. “Slow down, Keira. Who said this?”

“The Headmaster. Before I got out of his weird advising kill room this morning.”

“I thought he tried to kill you.”

“He did. But he was mad that his kill room was destroyed. It was enchanted or something and he was really pissed off. Then he said he was going to torture me before he killed me by accelerating the time bubble. He said he’d make you and everybody else I cared about forget me completely like I never existed. Then he would kill me.”

Malachai shook his head. “There’s no way,” he said without a hint of doubt. “He can’t do that. I could never forget you. Not even for a second. We have a bond. He can’t break that. He was just screwing with you.”

He frowned when he saw my face fall. “He can. And so can Smythe.”

“That’s why you went postal on Smythe.”

I nodded. “He started chanting like a freaky madman. And then all of a sudden people were calling me new girl again.”

Malachai still wasn’t buying it. “Smythe is an asshole. Maybe he convinced the others to do that. He’s not above it.”

Shaking my head, I shot him a sad look. “Ian didn’t know who I was.” I broke into tears and he wrapped me up in his arms.

“Okay, listen. We’ll figure this thing out together, okay?” He managed a weak smile, but I knew that the weight of what I said had finally gotten through to him. “And whatever Ian did or didn’t remember in the class while he was chanting, he remembers you now.”

  “He does?”

“Yup. Leading the search party. No stone unturned and all that. In fact, he’s the jerk who assigned me the library.” He grinned again. “I was sure he was hogging all the good spots to search for himself, but the joke’s on him, right? I found you first.”

The hug ended and I looked up into those golden eyes that caused shivers to run down my body. Being this close to him did things to me.

“I came back from the outside world for you. I’m not going to forget you, Keira. What do I have to do to prove it to you?”

Scenarios ran through my mind about things I’d like for him to do to prove it to me if only we weren’t on the cusp of being wiped out permanently by the Headmaster.

Still, I saw the twinkle in his eye and the slight smirk at the edge of his lip that told me he was thinking the same thing that I was.

“Quiet!” The shrill command of the librarian echoed through the library. I pressed my lips into a thin line so I wouldn’t even breathe loud enough to bring another admonishment, but when I looked up, Malachai’s face beamed a wicked smile.

Without a word, he leaned down and grabbed me by the waist, pulling me forward and on top of him. “Luckily for you, I come to the library all the time. I know a quiet place.”

I sucked in a breath at the feel of his broad shoulders and back and had to fight the urge to squeal when he threw me over his shoulder.

I couldn’t object without raising the ire of the librarian. And besides, how could I object when I had such a great view of his ass? As if he were reading my mind, he gave my ass a playful swat.

That did bring a yelp from my lips and a new wave of moisture between my legs. This sneaking around was really hot. I grabbed handfuls of his shirt in my fist in an attempt to hold on.

Then I bit my lip with anticipation as he carried me deeper into the dark corridor of books that I had been hesitant to go down earlier.

Everything got dark around me and all I could hear was my breath and Malachai’s as he made his way deeper into the library.

When it felt like we had gone far enough away from the librarian, I risked a whisper. “Where are we going, Malachai?”

That brought another spank. “No talking. You’ll see soon enough.”

Suddenly there was no more room in my head for thoughts. I could feel the blood pumping through my veins and the steady pulse of desire between my legs.

As if he were reading my mind, his hand moved higher up my leg until it came to a stop at my thigh. I fought back a moan, hoping he’d go further.

I didn’t have to wait long. His fingers teased me, going higher and higher and yet staying just out of reach of my throbbing, wet core. I begged and wriggled closer to his fingers. He responded by pulling my skirt up even higher.

Almost all of me was bare to him now. The only thing between him and my pussy was my soaking wet panties. I sucked in a breath and then moaned.

  That’s whe
n he stopped walking for a second. He took his bare hands and ripped off my panties throwing them aside, then he pulled off my skirt as well. Another, sharper smack on my totally naked bottom made me gasp and moan. Normally this wasn’t my thing, but there was something about Malachai taking charge that set me on fire.

I squirmed from the pain and he held me firm. Then he inserted his fingers into my wet spot, teasing my clit.

In mere seconds he had turned me into a writhing, moaning, soaking wet half-naked slave to his desires. His fingers were magic, and I bucked my naked hips against him desperately. I came moaning and wriggling and bucking into his fingers begging for more.

He continued forward and then set me down still half naked in the middle of a room. He cast a light spell. “Take off your shirt and bra.”

I complied, my body on fire. Soon I was standing completely naked before him while he wore all of his clothes and a superior, knowing smirk on his face.

“On your knees,” He ordered. I dropped naked to my knees in front of him, licking my lips to see what he would command me to do next.

He unzipped and his huge erection broke free. I crawled on my knees toward him without him even having to ask and I took his cock in my mouth.

“Good girl,” he said. “That’s right.”

He grabbed my bare ass with one hand while I sucked and licked his giant cock. He grabbed my breast and rubbed my nipple. The pain and pleasure mixed in my body and I shuddered.

He watched me shudder and squirm, then he eyed me lasciviously. “Now continue.”

I sucked even harder and he sat back, his eyes rolling back in his head. I moaned at the sight.

  “Louder,” he ordered.

I moaned louder and he almost finished. Then he pulled out of my mouth and grabbed me and threw me half onto a couch nearby so that I was ass in the air in front of him.

“Spread them,” he ordered. I spread my legs apart for him. “More,” he said.

He got close to me and rubbed his giant member against my ass causing another moan. My thighs were soaked. A shiver of anticipation rippled through my body.

Then he grabbed my naked legs and pulled them even farther apart for him, bringing a cry of ecstasy to my lips.

In a single thrust, he entered me fully. Even though he was huge, I was so wet that he slid right in. He pounded me mercilessly, like I had never been fucked before by anybody. My legs shook and he grabbed me by the waist and breasts, holding me in place as I squirmed and rocked and moaned and pleaded for more.

We finished at the same time, and then he collapsed onto my back gently.

The two of us snuggled up on the couch. The warmth of his skin on mine and the afterglow made me feel safe and warm and okay for the first time in a while. It was pure heaven, and the only downside was that I knew there was no way it could last.

After a few minutes I remembered the book. I looked into Malachai’s eyes and remembered that he seemed like he had something to say too. That was before we got so wonderfully distracted. I had no regrets. I didn’t know how to tell him what I found out anyway.

“What is it?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

“You had some news too, didn’t you?” I asked.

  “Ladies first,” he said.

“This isn’t a sinking ship,” I answered with a laugh. “What was it that you needed to say?”

“Only that whoever found you was supposed to absolutely, immediately, and urgently tell everybody you were safe. And also to remind you that we have to meet Professor Kiln tonight in her room, remember?”

I looked down at my watch. “Um, Malachai?”

“Yes, love? You were amazing, by the way.”

“Thanks,” I said, starting to panic. “Absolutely. You too. Just one thing. It’s almost time to meet Professor Kiln.”

Three seconds later, both of us scrambled to throw on our clothes. The scene would have made me laugh out loud under any other circumstances but finding a way out of this time bubble was a life and death issue. And the last thing I needed right now was a pissed off Professor Kiln.

“Go!” I yelled as Malachai pulled his jeans and his shirt on. I had no idea how to get back to where we were and it was super dark, so I followed behind, holding his hand as he led me through the dark corridors of books.

And then we were out in the open again, in the dimly yellow light of the library surrounded by books and quiet and normalcy. For the moment.

I grabbed my backpack and the two of us made our way giggling through the library toward the exit, eliciting another hiss from the librarian, her glare followed our every move until the door shut behind us.

  Then we ran.

Malachai and I were the last ones to arrive at Professor Kiln’s room. It didn’t take long once we got there for everything to quiet down and to get down to business.

“What is your plan to pop the time bubble?” I asked.

Professor Kiln stood in her kitchen as the rest of us crowded onto the couch, loveseat, and chair. “Well, I wasn’t completely sure we were dealing with a time bubble until today. Trust me, I’ve known Julius Crowe a very long time.” She paused and shook her head. “I used to know him very well. More than well enough to know that he’s hiding a lot more than that stupid room we blew up today.”

I stared, mouth agape. “You and the Headmaster?”

“Believe me,” she answered, “that was a very long time ago. And you’re one to talk. You’ve practically started a harem. Although that’s probably just your partial fae heritage kicking in.”

That last remark left me speechless. And also got me a dirty look from Ivy.

After a moment of quiet, Professor Kiln continued. “He tried to kill me, and a time bubble is the only reason he would be that desperate. It’s the only thing that explains everything.” She shook her head as her shoes clackety clacked on the floor. “Poor bastard. Why would he give in to such dark magic? He knew damn well he wouldn’t come out unscathed.”

She paced back and forth while she talked before crossing the room to her bedroom to rummage around, leaving the rest of us hanging out in her living room. Which was nice. The room was bigger than our student dorms, had newer carpet, and a full-sized kitchen.

The paint was a happy baby blue color that was different than any other color I had ever seen in the building. I thought about her classroom and wondered if her private room wasn’t also decorated with magic.

It felt odd to be in Professor Kiln’s personal room. I felt like I should be doing something, not lounging around on her couch.

I fidgeted, knowing that this probably wasn’t the first place the Headmaster would look for us, but it was certainly one of the top choices. I guessed we didn’t have much time and hanging around all in one place like sitting ducks felt like a bad idea.

After a few minutes, Kiln came out of her closet holding a very thick book. She took one look at all of us sitting on her couches and her shoulders drooped. Like she forgot we were here. Then she took the book and went to sit at her kitchen table.

“Hey, that’s one of the books you took from the Administrative Records Room,” I said to Malachai.

“Yes,” Professor Kiln said. “We’ve got a shot at this. Maybe. But it’s going to be tricky.”

“What do we have to do?” Rafe asked. I could tell by his body language that he was as uncomfortable being here as I was.

“There are objects hidden in the building. Things we have to find,” she said.

“How will we know what we’re looking for?” Ivy asked.

“That’s the easy part and the hard part,” she said. “In order to pull off the very powerful time bubble spell, he had to hide pieces of himself in different sacred places around the academy.”

I raised my hand. Then I felt stupid. “I’m sorry, did you say, um, pieces of himself? Ew. And what places?”

Ivy’s face had gone white. “You mean we’re going to be walking around the academy
looking for a horn or fingers or a piece of an ear or something?”

“He’s got all of his fingers, Ivy,” Malachai said.

Ivy shot him a dark look.

“The pieces of flesh will be in boxes. We need to find and collect the boxes. We’ll need them all to undo the spell. And before any more hands shoot up, there are four boxes. I need you guys to find them and bring them back.”

“What are you going to do?” Malachai asked.

“I’m going to apply the spells to help you find the items. And then I’m going to buy you some time. Julius is going to be on the lookout for anyone going after those items. I plan on keeping him busy.”

“Okay,” I said. I hated to be the person in the group that brought it up, but I had a more pressing question. “The Headmaster is pretty mad. Just in case something happens to you, no offense, what do we do if we get all four of the items and you’re still stalling him?”

I stared at Professor Kiln, afraid that she would be offended but she just looked far away, lost in thought. “You’re right, we should all be on the same page so to speak, just in case.”

She beckoned me over to her kitchen table. I went over and everybody followed me. We went from spread out on couches to all crowded into her kitchen.

She pointed at the open book of spells on the brown tile kitchen table.

“Here’s the spell, on page four hundred thousand, six-hundred, and thirty-three.”

I blinked at her and then looked down at the book. It wasn’t a small book, but I had never seen any book that was that many pages long. I stared down at the bottom of the page where her finger was pointing, and the numbers were correct.

Frowning, I looked up at her. “How is that possible?”

“Size is a construct of reality, Keira. You have to stop thinking with the human side of your brain. We have other issues to worry about right now.”

I didn’t know how to respond to that. “Okay, can we get some sort of bookmark in there at least, so we can find it again?”

Professor Kiln huffed as she got up, went into her bedroom, and came back with a long, green, cloth bookmark. There was no way we could lose the page now. I felt better as soon as she folded it into the book.”
