  Biscochitos (anise seed cookies)

  A Family Recipe

  Makes 5 dozen

  INGREDIENTS

  1 lb shortening

  1 ½ cups sugar

  2 tsp anise seed

  2 eggs, beaten

  6 cups flour

  3 tsp baking powder

  1 tsp salt

  ½ cup brandy or bourbon

  ¼ cup sugar

  1 Tbl cinnamon

  INSTRUCTIONS

  Cream shortening, 1 ½ c sugar, and anise seed in a mixing bowl. Add eggs and beat well.

  Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate mixing bowl.

  Alternating, add flour and brandy to creamed mix until a stiff dough is made.

  Knead dough slightly and pat or roll to a ¼ or ½ inch thickness.

  Cut dough into desired shapes.

  Bake at 350 °F for 10 to 12 minutes.

  Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon in a small mixing bowl. Dust the top of each cookie with a small amount
