Her Arrogant Boss (The Wright Kind of Wrong Book 1) Page 6

by S. E. Roberts

“Good girl.” I return my finger to her slickness, this time inserting it all the way into her warm, inviting pussy.

She collapses in my arms at my touch, and I lead her over to my desk. I move the few papers that are scattered on the wood surface and lay her back, sliding her black skirt as far up as it’ll go.

“I just need a taste.” I wink at her as I bend down to inhale her. I haven’t gotten to do this yet, but if she tastes anything like she smells, I know I’ll be in heaven as soon as my tongue is inside of her.

I slide her thong down her long, slender body, tossing it behind me. I glide one finger through her slit and she throws an arm over her face. If I had a condom with me, I’d slam into her tight little body. I make a mental note to get a box to keep in my desk. I know she said she’s on the pill, but I still don’t like to take any chances.

She’s more than ready for me so I lick at her, causing moans to pass through her sexy lips. The sound, like music to my ears, encourages me to keep going.

“Oh, God, yes.” She throws her head back, staring up at the ceiling. I’d love nothing more than to take a picture of her like this, sprawled out on my desk, mine for the taking.

I continue to lick up and down, inserting my tongue inside of her and it only takes a few more strokes before her orgasm flows freely from her sexy body.

Once she’s come down from her high, I help her sit up before reaching for her panties laying on my office floor.

She reaches her hand out to me for them, as I place them in my suit pocket.

She gasps. “What are you doing?”

I lean in and kiss along her long, sexy neck. “These are mine now. Maybe I’ll give them back when you come over tonight.”

She pulls away from my mouth and looks up at me. “You’re seriously going to carry my wet panties around with you for the rest of the day?”

I shrug my shoulders. “Yep. Now, get your fine ass back to work. I’ll have Edward pick you up at seven.”

She groans as I help her off my desk. “Did you just bribe me with an orgasm?”

A smirk pulls at my lips. “Sure did, Ms. Monroe.”

She flattens her skirt and glares at me before pulling the door open.

“Asshole,” she mutters as she walks away from me. God, I can’t get enough of that woman.

What the hell have I gotten myself into? I can’t believe I agreed to have dinner with Ian tonight. I’m currently with his driver, Edward, as we navigate the busy city. I typically love the comfort Chicago gives, but tonight I can’t focus on that.

“Ms. Monroe, are you all right?” Edward asks from the front seat as he chances a glimpse at me through the rearview mirror.

I jump at his question, seeming to have been lost in my own world for a few minutes.

I clear my throat. “Yes, I’m fine.”

He puts his turn signal on and crosses over the heavy traffic before speaking again.

“I hope I’m not stepping out of line, but Mr. Wright hasn’t brought a woman to his penthouse in sometime.”

My eyes dart back to his in the mirror and I catch a wink before he turns his gaze back to the road.

  “I’m sorry, what?”

I realize in this moment that I don’t know that much about the man I’m meeting. We hooked up and never spoke again until I happened to show up at his firm needing a job. He agreed that we were just sleeping together and nothing more.

“After everything Ms. Hunt did to him, it’s no wonder, but I’m glad to see him trying to settle down again.”

“No, we’re not serious,” I’m quick to say and realize that I sound like I’m only interested in him for a hookup and that probably doesn’t make either of us look good in the slightest. But isn’t that exactly what we’re doing?

  “Mm-hmm.”

I decide not to argue with the man and sit in silence for the rest of the trip.

We finally pull up in front of his building and I take in the immaculate structure. The night we met I didn’t get a chance to appreciate it. He wasn’t exactly willing to give me a grand tour. I was pissed with the way he treated me that night, but now that I got a glimpse of his ex, I have a better understanding of why he doesn’t let women close to him.

My door opens, and Ian holds his hand out for me and winks.

“Thanks, Edward. I’ll take it from here.”

I thank his driver as I reach for his hand.

“Have a good night, Ms. Monroe.”

As soon as I’m out of the car, I’m in his arms, his warm lips descending on mine.

“What was that for?” I ask when we pull away from each other, both out of breath.

He pecks me one more time. “For agreeing to come tonight.”

I pull away from his embrace, crossing my arms over my chest.

  “I didn’t exactly have a choice, now did I?”

He pulls me back to him and grabs my chin so I’m forced to look at him.

“Maddison, if you absolutely do not want to be here with me tonight, I’ll take you home right this second. If that’s what you want?”

The vulnerability on his face makes me want to kiss it right off.

I shake my head. “I want to be here. It scares the shit out of me, but I do.”

He sighs heavily and runs both his hands down his face. “I don’t know why, but something feels different between us.”

My heart leaps in my chest, but I say the first thing that comes to mind. “You could literally have any woman in Chicago. Why me?” When he doesn’t respond, I go on, “We’ve slept together twice. I like sex. You like sex. That’s all we know about each other.”

“What if I don’t just want sex from you? Of course, I want that too, but what if I want more?”

I tense at his question. Could we actually get serious when I work for him?

I shake my head. “I’ve already told you, I need that job too much to screw things up.”

He sighs again. “And I promise that if things don’t work out between us, you will still have a job.” He pauses. “What’s this really about?”

I wrap my arms around myself when I want to run and hide.

“My stepfather cheated on my mom.” I look up at the sky in thought. “She used to be so fun and outgoing, but now she rolls over at every command he gives her. I can’t fathom living like that.”

He shakes his head. “Maddison, I’d never treat you like that.” I can see the sincerity in his eyes, but that doesn’t mean I’m any less scared about what he’s capable of doing.

“Okay…” I drawl the word out. “But don’t you want someone more your age?” I cringe when the words leave my mouth.

He chuckles. “Are you calling me an old man, Ms. Monroe?”

I place my hand on my forehead. “Ugh, I knew that wasn’t going to come out right.”

He pulls me into his arms as he laughs. “I know what you mean, but I don’t care how old, or young you are, Maddison. We’re both adults and want to be together, and that’s all that matters to me. Do you want to be with me?”

The damn butterflies take flight inside my stomach, and I feel like a teenager. The answer is a simple yes, despite how scared I still am.

  “Yes.”

He leans down and captures my mouth once again.

“As you already know, my last relationship was an absolute shit show, so I’m scared too. I say we take things slow and see where it goes. How does that sound?”

  “Yeah. That sounds good.”

“Good.” He kisses me once more before grabbing my hand. “Let’s get inside before I burn dinner.”

We spend the rest of the night sipping on wine and eating the delicious chicken Alfredo he made. The man can cook.

I still find myself worrying about whether or not us being together is a good idea, but I try not to think about that while I’m with him.

We sadly don’t do anything beyond kissing, but he does give me a tour of his apartm
ent before he takes me home. Let’s just hope he doesn’t change his mind once he learns that I’m sleeping on my sister’s couch every night.

  Ian

It’s been three weeks since Maddison agreed to be with me… as more than a hookup. To say I was shocked as shit would be the understatement of the century. The night I took her home, I offered to walk her to the door, but she was quick to turn me down. The location of her apartment is not in the greatest part of the city. Okay, that’s putting it lightly. I didn’t want to leave her there, but knew I had no choice, so I watched until I saw that she was safely inside. I don’t want her to feel embarrassed about where she lives, but decided to leave it alone… for now.

“Hey, you.” Her soft, silky voice drags me out of my thoughts. When I stare up at her, her blonde short hair starting to get longer, I’m immediately relieved that the large desk is covering my extremely embarrassing hard-on. I can’t help it. That is what this woman does to me.

“Hey, yourself.” I grab her by the waist once she’s in front of me, settling her onto my lap. “Can I take you out tonight?”

She runs her hands through the long strands of hair on the back of my neck. I’m in desperate need of a cut, but when she does things like this, it makes me not want to ever cut it again.

“Sounds good.” She leans down, capturing my mouth with her pouty lips.

We have yet to sleep together since we’ve officially become a couple. I know, shocker. Playboy Ian Wright being celibate would cause anyone to die of a heart attack, but I want things with Maddison to be different. I want her to know that she’s different from all the hookups I’ve ever had. I don’t want her to think that I only want sex from her, but I think I’ve made that point clear over the last few weeks.

“Good.” I peck her lips as I run my hands up her sides. “I have work to finish up, but Edward will pick you up at seven and drop you off at Windy City Winery.”

She claps her hands… her enthusiasm is that of a toddler on Christmas morning.

“Oh, my God! I’ve been wanting to go there since I came back.”

  I smile at her excitement.

“Ahem.” Nellie stands at my office door, a smirk on her face.

Maddison flies off my lap, like her ass is on fire.

Nellie was supposed to retire last month, once she was done training Maddison, but after a lot of begging and pleading, on my part, she finally agreed to stay on. I had to reassure my girl that she didn’t need to worry about having a job, because I need them both with all the new clients we’ve taken on.

I now see worry etched on Nellie’s face.

  “What is it, Nel?”

“Um, Ian, your brother is here.”

Maddison grabs my hand and squeezes it, but nothing can calm the rage flowing inside me. What the fuck is he doing here? He hasn’t been back to Chicago since our dad died. How dare he show up here like this?

“I’m gonna head out, if that’s all right?”

Maddison leaves, and I follow close behind to meet Seth at the front of the building.

We both got jobs here with our father as soon as we graduated from college. James Wright was a hard-ass, but he was willing to help us both succeed, although I’d like to think I earned this honestly. But Seth… he took off as soon as Dad died, never to return even for his fucking funeral. I was the one who held our mother while she mourned the loss of her husband, and you would have thought she lost a child that day as well. She might as well have for the way he disappeared.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Seth?” I roar as soon as my brother comes into view.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Maddison slip onto the elevator, and I know I’ll have some explaining to do later. Right now, I can’t think about that, though.

“Is that any way to greet your brother?” I want to slap the smug look off his face.

I growl under my breath, clenching my fists together at my sides. It’s taking every ounce of my strength not to grab him by his shirt collar and ring his neck.

“It is when you haven’t shown your face in five goddamn years,” I spit out, and I can quickly feel my blood pressure rising.

He runs his hands over his face, as if he was the one who had to pick up all the pieces after our father died.

“What do you want? Haven’t you done enough already?” I walk closer and I hear Nellie behind me telling me to calm down, but I ignore her. She’s known us our entire lives, and she knows that we both have tempers that can be set off with the drop of a needle.

Once upon a time, we were best friends, but now? Now, I can’t even stand to look at him. Immature? Probably, but he did this, not me.

He sighs heavily before speaking again. “I’m moving back.”

I stare at him, my mouth nearly hitting the floor. We don’t even know where the hell he took off to. For all we knew, he was still in the city hiding away.

“You’re moving back?” I ask slowly and shake my head in exasperation. “It’s a little late for that, don’t you think?”

He crosses his arms over his big, bulky body, clearly feeling defensive now.

“Look, I know I screwed up.”

I give a manic laugh. “That’s putting it lightly. Have you even seen our mother?”

The thought of how she’ll respond to seeing him after all these years makes me panic. When he doesn’t respond, I have my answer.

I start walking back to my office, needing to get away from him. “I have to get back to work, but stay away from her and Bri.”

Without letting him get another word in, I slam the door behind me.

God, I need a fucking drink.

  Maddison

I’ve been sitting at the winery for thirty minutes now, with no sign of Ian. I’ve called and texted him several times with no response. Part of me panicked that something had happened to him, but then I just settled on being pissed.

He definitely has a temper, but until this afternoon, I had never seen him so full of rage. He’s told me some about his brother and how he left Chicago when their father died, but that’s all I know. Maybe I’m being a selfish brat, but I’m hurt. I finally thought I had found something special, but then he ignores me and leaves me sitting here in this fancy restaurant all by myself.

I fish my wallet out of my small Coach hand-me-down purse from Greta. It matches my black, knee-length tube dress perfectly. I thought Ian would enjoy looking at me in it over dinner, and then enjoy taking it off even more as dessert, but it seems that won’t be happening.

I take one last sip of my ice water before throwing a twenty on the table and hightail it out of Windy City Winery. I’d been over the moon excited when Ian told me he was taking me here, but fuck him.

Ever since we made things official between us, he hasn’t once tried to get me to sleep with him. Trust me, I’ve tried, but every time, he shot me down as if I was the plague. To say it hurt would be an understatement. For Christ’s sake, he picked me up in a bar, not even knowing my name, and screwed me over the back of his couch. But now that I’m his goddamn girlfriend, he won’t even touch me. Maybe I’m insecure… or maybe I’m just horny. Either way, Ian Wright is getting an ear full from me, once he finally picks up his damn phone.

Fifteen minutes later, I’m in an Uber, almost back to Chloe’s apartment, when a text comes through.

Ian: Maddison, I’m so sorry. Will you meet me at the office?

Relief floods me, knowing that he’s all right, but at the same time I’m angry. How dare he think he can stand me up and then ask me to meet him?

I sigh heavily before asking my driver to turn around and take me to Wright Enterprises. All I have to say is he better have a damn good excuse for all this.

Maddison: Fine. Be there in 10.

I put my phone in my purse, not wanting to read any more of his texts. I’ll let him stir until I get there. Serves him right.

I get out of the car and make my way to th
e elevator, and the ride is much quicker this time of day, with most everyone being gone for the evening. I give myself a once over in the reflection of the doors, seeing that I have streaks of black on my face. I quickly lick my finger, working aggressively to get the smudges of makeup off before the doors slide open. The time and effort I took tonight to look good for him was a complete waste, but I refuse to let him see how hurt he made me. Instead, he’ll get my wrath.

I exit the elevator and all the lights are off in the front office, which isn’t surprising. Nellie most likely left hours ago.

I head toward Ian’s office and notice that his door is shut, but decide against knocking. I’m not feeling very polite right now.

As soon as I push the door open, probably harder than necessary, his head flies up from his desk. The glass of amber liquid sitting beside him does not go unnoticed.

“You came.” He flies out of his chair and pulls me into his arms. Typically, I’d relax in his embrace, but not tonight.

I tense before pushing at his chest by way of telling him to let me go. He relents and steps away from me, sighing heavily.

“You want to tell me what the hell is going on?”

He walks back to his desk, throwing himself into his chair.

“That was my brother this afternoon.” He looks up at me, as if that is enough reason for the way he treated me tonight.

“Okay…?” I ask slowly, drawing the word out. “I knew that was him, but how does that explain you standing me up tonight?”

He slams his fist down on his desk and I jump. “Fuck!” And that’s when I realize that he didn’t stand me up, he forgot about me.

“You forgot,” I say; not as a question because I already know that’s exactly what happened.

He rubs at his temples, as if he’s warding off a migraine.

“Look, I’m gonna go. It seems you have a lot of shit you need to figure out, and I don’t seem to fit into all this.” I wave my hand around.
