The Angel Fay Finds Her Wolf

Page 2

by D J Nickels

I received a letter from my father’s lawyer, stating that I had a lot of money. It was a complete surprise to me and my brothers. I learned that my mother, who died when I was six years old, came from a family that had money—a family I had never even heard of or met.

I also learned that day that my three brothers were only my half-brothers. We had different mothers but shared the same father. Their mother had run off with a biker on the same day my mother moved in next door to their house.

Bradley waved his hands in front of my face. “Kate!”

I realized I had zoned out. “Oh, sorry, I just have a lot on my mind.” He held out some keys. They were the keys to the cabin. “Here--you’re going to need these if you are going to spend any time here,” he said. I hesitated and then took them with shaking hands.

I looked at Bradley. “I don’t want to be in charge of everything. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing,” I told him, and he nodded.

“Would you like me to go inside with you?” he asked.

“Um, I think I’ve had enough, for today. I am going to go for now. But now that I am not working, I think I will spend some time here,” I said. Bradley nodded and walked me back to my car.

“Call me if you need me to go in with you, Kate.” I nodded, looking up at the cabin and I felt this strange urge to go and touch the door. Bradley kissed my forehead and got into his car and he began to back out.

“Oh, wait, can you take these to your IT people and find out who was really fucking with my emails?” I explained a little more of what had happened, and then gave him my laptop, and Eve’s laptop, and her work cell phone.

He nodded and said, “Sure.” He asked, “You didn’t steal them from your company, did you?”

I rolled my eyes at him. “No, Bradley, I provided them for my assistant, and I took them back today when I fired her. I just want to make sure I was correct in my assumptions.” He nodded, took them from me, and drove off.

Again, walking back to my car, I got this feeling to go up to the cabin door. It was as if something were pulling me to it, and before I knew it, I had walked up onto the porch and put my hand on the door.

It felt as if a bolt of lightning had hit me. There was a bright light, and I felt as if energy currents were running through my veins. Suddenly, I had a vision of Momma and my six-year-old self. Tears filled my eyes as I watched Momma. I had forgotten how beautiful she truly was. I watched as Momma scolded me that my power was not to be used on my brother Daniel, even if he was annoying me. Momma began teaching me to control my power.

I saw that Momma had several huge boulders delivered at the edge of our property at the cabin. She lifted them with her hands, and she moved them across the yard to the other side of our property line. Then she looked at me. She said, “You will learn to focus, and control and strengthen all your powers.” I saw my younger self trying to lift this boulder, over and over. I felt as if it drained my younger self. One of the times, I got so frustrated and I blew the big boulder into little pieces. I gasped in shock when I saw myself move the smaller, but still bigger pieces than myself across the yard with magic.

I fell to my knees. Breathing heavily, I got up and ran to my car. Shaken, I didn’t understand what had just happened. I thought maybe I was losing my mind. I backed away from the door and got in my car to go home.

I felt different somehow. I mean, I’ve always been able to sense things and feel other’s emotions, and I think I have had a vision or two. But what the hell just happened? I thought. I decided to stop and pick up a box of wine.

When I got back to my car and started driving home again, I called Jessica. She’d been my best friend since the third grade. She and her adopted mother, Brenda, moved here just a couple months after her adopted father died. It was just a couple of months after Momma had passed.

“Hey girl, what’s up?” Jess answered her phone.

“A shitload,” I responded. “I think I am losing my mind today, girl. Are you busy? I’ve had the worst morning ever.”

“I’m just waiting for my next appointment to get here. Aren’t you working today? You hardly ever call during work hours,” Jessica said.

“Nope, I just lost my fucking job this morning.”

  She gasped, “No way! How?”

“Do you remember about a month ago, on our girls’ night out, that guy from my work, who kept hitting on us?” I asked.

  “Yeah,” Jess said.

“Well, evidently he got my assistant to help him steal a client away from me.”

She gasped. “That bitch!” said Jess.

“I mean, I had seen them out together and talking around the office a couple of times, but I never thought she would betray me like that.” I explained what had happened, and how I gave the computers to Bradley.

“Well, if anyone can figure it out, it’s his guys,” she said. “Besides, I always thought that job was too stressful on you.”

“Yeah, well now I am not really sure what I am going to do with my time.”

“Take your time, and don’t jump into anything right away,” she said. “Just take some time off and see where it leads you.”

I nodded, even though she couldn’t see me. “I stopped at my parents’ cabin today,” I said.

“Really?” she replied. “But you never go there.”

“It felt peaceful, and I sat on a swing that she used to love to sit and have coffee on. Bradley has been keeping up the grounds nicely.”

“Are you sure you are okay?” she asked.

“Actually, I’m not sure. Something weird happened.” I thought, Should I tell her what happened when I touched the door? She will think I am crazy or something. So Instead, I dropped it.

“Hey, I thought I might have a fire tonight. Do you want to come and hang out?” I asked.

“I would, but I have a date,” said Jess.

“Oh, really!” I said, excited. “With whom?”

“Um, well, don’t laugh, but I signed up for one of those online dating sites,” she explained.

“Hey, I wouldn’t laugh at you, Jess. I’d be happy if you found someone to make you happy.” Then I mumbled, “At least one of us would be happy.”

I didn’t always tell Jessica about all my problems with Tom. My mind strayed to the fight we had last night. Tom was in the kitchen when I came home. He was cleaning up the dinner mess that I had left from the night before; I hadn’t had time to clean it up the next morning before work like I thought I would, and Tom, works from my home, so I understand why he wants the house to be clean. He has clients coming to the house.

Anyhow, when I came home from work, he began yelling about what a mess the place was, and that every night before bed, things should be cleaned up. Then he began yelling about how every morning after I leave, he must pick up my coffee cup also. That was when I yelled back, “If you don’t like it, why don’t you just find a new place to work? It’s not like I don’t let you live here for free.”

That’s when he grabbed me and said I needed to be taught a lesson, that no woman of his was going to talk to him that way. He pushed me down over the kitchen table and started spanking me hard. It really caught me off guard, and I was stunned. When he was done, he tried lifting my skirt, and I freaked out. I thought he was going to take me right there, and that was something I wasn’t ready for in our relationship.

Tom and I had dated for only three months before he lost everything in an apartment- building fire, including his workspace. He made me feel guilty for having so much room, because I have a huge stone cottage house that my parents left me, and I lived alone.

Now he lived with me, and it had been hard. Anyway, when he tried to pull up my skirt, that’s when my mind kicked in, and I began to fight him. When I was younger, I took self-defense classes and I used some moves on him and I got away from him, and it caught him off guard. I busted his nose.

“Kate? Hello, Kate? Are you still there?” Jess asked.

  “Oh, yes, I’m here. S
orry, I got lost in thought,” I said. “What did you mean, at least one of us would be happy?” she asked.

“Oh, Tom was just being Tom. We got in a fight, and I broke it off with him, and kicked him out last night,” I said.

She gasped in surprise. “What? Never mind, I can cancel my--”

I cut her off. “No, absolutely not. It’s nothing we can’t talk about later, alright? Please, don’t ruin your plans over Tom,” I said. “I would rather hear how you met your date. Are you sure you can trust these kinds of dating sites?” I asked, quickly changing the subject back to her.

“Okay,” she said, “but I will be over tomorrow, and we will be talking about you and Tom. I’ll bring donuts, and coffee,” she persisted, and I smiled to myself.

  “Deal,” I told her.

Then she began telling me about Robby, the guy she was going on a date with.

“So, as you know, there’s no guarantee in relationships. But the site does full background checks and tells you to ask lots of questions to really get to know each other, and not to meet anywhere alone until you feel confident and comfortable with whomever you choose. The dating site tells you to take your time getting to know each other, and we have been doing exactly that for over a month now.”

“Wait, and you’re just now telling me about it?” “Well, I wasn’t getting my hopes up.” Said Jess. “You know how my last relationship went.”

“Would you like Bradley to do a background check to see if you can really trust this site first?” I said. “No, I’m feeling pretty confident about this guy.” “I have met him already.” She said. “We started out having long phone calls, and then we moved to face timing dates.” “We just met for coffee, and we have had some lunch dates.” She explained. “I feel that we have really hit it off, and that we have a connection.” She said.

“Tonight, he is taking me to dinner!” Jess says excitedly. “Okay, well that sounds nice.” I said. “Text me the details just in case alright, and please be safe, and call me if you need anything.”

“Oh, call me or text me when you get home, so that I know you’re safe and made it home.” I said. “Yes mommy, I will.” She says sarcastically. We both laughed and hung up.

Caught up by the Alphas Arms

  CHAPTER 3

I turned down the road that led to my house. There were several homes there, spaced out around mine. The only house next to mine was my brother Bradley’s home that he built when he came home from the military.

Bradley’s house and my house have plenty of land around us here in Montana. The wooded area around us makes it more secluded. My parents bought this land so that we kids could each build our own home on the property. Momma wanted us to stay close to each other. But it didn’t work out that way.

My brothers didn’t feel right using the money I inherited for their own use, even though my mother took them in as her own children and adopted them. I guess things changed when they grew up and really understood that she wasn’t their real mother. Well, I guess it made them feel funny to use her money. My father also never used any of the money after she died, except to keep our family home up. After all, she had it built for our family.

Pulling myself out of my thoughts as I got closer to my house, I noticed a huge moving truck. I thought it might be Tom picking up his stuff, because the moving truck was partly blocking my driveway. I didn’t see Tom’s car, or my doors open. But I guessed if you had a moving truck, you wouldn’t need your car.

However, I did see five or six motorcycles parked up Bradley’s driveway next door. So, I parked in front of my house since I couldn’t get into my driveway.

Getting out of the car, I grabbed my box of stuff from work and the box of wine and set it all on the hood of my car. I walked to the mailbox to get the mail and that’s when I spotted five huge men strolling out of the house next door. They walked to the moving truck and picked up boxes and furniture to carry. I stuck my mail and stuff in the box of work stuff and started walking up the driveway, when I heard one of the men say, “Mmm mmm mmm gorgeous.” Then another whistled. I turned around watching them with my mouth gaping open, and walking backwards, as I was also appreciating the view.

Suddenly, I ran into a big wall. “Oh shit,” I said, dropping my box of stuff. I spun around quickly on my heel and lost my footing, when these huge arms of muscle wrapped around my waist, and his other hand went to the nape of my neck to catch me before I could fall.

He held me, to himself as he lifted me, bringing me back to my feet. “Whoa there, little one. I’ve gotcha,” he said.

“Oh,” I said, grabbing his biceps. “Um, thank you,” I said quickly. “I am not usually this clumsy.” I looked up and I was completely caught by the green color in his eyes.

I stood there fixed in his gaze, like a mouse caught in a corner, breathing heavily. He swiped my long dark hair from my face, and as his fingers grazed my skin, I felt my skin tingle everywhere. My whole body felt alive, as if it would only ever pulse that way for him.

He made sure I was steady on my feet before letting me go. I gathered my senses. I pulled my hair back and around the left side of my neck, like I always do when I get hot.

“Hello.” He held out his hand to me. “I am Jonathan Stone.” I just stood there staring at this beautiful godlike man. “I’m your new neighbor,” he said. I blushed, not thinking anything of it because Bradley let people from his work stay there all the time. When Bradley and Molly, got married, they built a new house closer to the Nickels’ Security Firm. My brother owns his own company.

Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, I said “Hello,” but again was mesmerized by his green eyes and taking his hand. I was lost, completely lost in the sound of his gravelly voice.

“And your name is?” Jonathan’s words drew me back. I shook my head again a bit to pull myself together.

“Oh, excuse me.” I said. “I’m Kate Nickels.” Suddenly I felt as if I were being pulled back into his arms. I felt my heart race and butterflies that went straight to my lower belly.

“It’s great to meet you,” he said with a gruff and sandy voice. I felt my panties getting wet, and then his nostrils flared as if he scented how aroused he made me, and I blushed pink.

It felt as if we were being connected to each other somehow. I couldn’t pull myself away from him. I think he felt it too, because he leaned into me, and his scent consumed my senses. I felt my nipples harden into pebbles when he leaned into me, and his chest rumbled with a growl. He smelled so delicious. I took a deep breath into his neck as he leaned into me.

He smelled of warm cinnamon, and apple pie with a glaze over the top, with a hint of a crispy leaves of a fall smell. I raised up to my toes thinking, I just want to bite his lip and tug on it. Shit! Where did that thought come from? Get a hold of yourself, girl—you’re already in a relationship. Then I remembered last night and dropped back down to my heels. I cleared my throat and I was a bit breathy.

“So are you the one who is responsible for blocking my driveway then?” He looked and I tried to pull back from him, but one of his arms was around me again, and he had backed me up against my stone cottage home.

“Shit!” he said. Looking back at me, he smiled a gorgeous smile that lit up his whole face. “Yeah, but I am not sorry, though.” He grinned a devilish smile. “It gave me this chance to meet you.”

I blushed again. He rubbed his thumb on the nape of my neck and I melted and completely relaxed into him. He was so close. I felt the bulge growing in his pants. “Oh, my.” I turned my head to get some fresh air, but his scent was all around me, and I couldn’t clear my head. When I turned my head. I felt his fingers tracing the right side of my neck.

“This is a beautiful tattoo,” he said, and moved his head in, and I felt his nose rub against my neck. I thought he might devour me right there, and I wanted him to.

“Thank you,” I said. “I got it for my momma. She loved clematises.” I had a dark-purple clematis tattooed with Momma’s
name, and the date she passed written in white on the edge of the flower petal. I turned my neck more to show him better.

He traced his finger down the vine, and he noticed how it went into an intricate design that ran down under my cami tank top. He traced his finger over the top of my cami.

I began to feel that current that ran through me, when I had touched the cabin door. I froze when I heard someone’s throat clear pulling me back into the present. But Jonathan stayed focused on my neck as his thumb rubbed the nape of my neck as if to relax me into him again. I tried to look past Jonathan to see who made the sound. Jonathan sighed.

“Kate,” Jonathan said, a bit irritated at being interrupted and taking my attention away from him. I think.

“These are my brothers,” he said as he moved and pulled me into his side, holding me closely. I looked up at him puzzled a bit by his possessiveness and turn to looked at all of them when I got nothing back for him. I was nodding and then realized they were not brothers by blood, but from serving in the military. I saw one of their tattoos. I gasped and looked up at Jonathan.

“You are all Navy SEALs,” I said, looking back to the closest one. I reached out to touch the tattoo, and Jonathan pulled my hand back, and shook his head no at me. Confused by this, I let him pull my hand back.

“Very good eyes,” he said. “They’ve all followed me home like a pack of wolves.” He grinned slyly. “We all just got out of the military,” he said as he rubbed my neck with his thumb. I felt myself relax into his side. How does he do that? I asked myself.

“This is Carson, my second-in-command,” Jonathan said, introducing me. “Then there is Mike, Dominic, Hayden, and his younger brother Collin.” He introduced them all.

I looked at each one and gave them a nod of my head, and said “Hi,” because Jonathan hadn’t let go of me and still had his arm tightly around my waist. Bringing my attention back to Jonathan, I noticed he was still looking at my neck like he was going to devour me. Then his eyes met mine, as he let go of my waist and brought his hand back up to the nape of my neck again and said, “Guys, I would like you all to meet, my Kate.” His thumb ran over my pulse and my heart raced at his words. My Kate. I was sure he felt it, because he had a look of satisfaction. I was taken in by his words. I had only ever seen one-man act like this with a woman, and that was my brother, Bradley with “his Molly,” and that is exactly what he called her when he introduced her--“My Molly.”
