How Now Devil Cow

Gabriel stomps his foot, his face twisted and sour. “Fudge you!”
I frown. “What’s happening?”
Lucifer throws me a victorious wink. “You’re getting your wings back. You’re welcome.”

Two hours later
“Name?” He’s scratching at the parchment, black feather quill flying across the page.
I twiddle my hooves, adjust my udder so it’s not dangling on the ground, and chew my bottom lip.
“This century please, I’m behind schedule. I haven’t got all day.”
I clear my throat. “Just Mollie.”
Lucifer’s head snaps up, eyes wide, a look of confused disbelief marring his perfect features.
I throw him a shy, nervous smile.
We sit like this for a long, drawn-out moment—long enough that I begin to sweat beneath the layers of fluffy filling and synthetic material.
Finally, he shakes his pretty head, mottled with bruises which have developed over the past two hours since we saw each other last. “Welcome to Hell, number six billion, three million, seventy thousand and twenty-four,” he grinds out, squeezing the quill in his white-knuckled fist so hard it folds into itself.
I relax in my seat, beaming a big smile that’s half-hidden by the head of my open-mouthed cow. “Thank you!”
“So,” he states, eyeing my udder.
“So,” I reply, my gaze roaming around his office … a melted, charred version of its former beauty.
He sighs deeply, rubbing at his temples. “How did you die?”
