Our Shattered Pieces

“True, but I think it’s been the best so far,” I teased.
“You’re ridiculous,” she replied. “And it looks like I need another shower.”
I wrapped her up tightly against me. “Say it again, please.”
“I love you, Grayson,” she said, granting my wish. “I’ve always thought you were a good guy, and the night of the wedding pushed those feelings a bit further over the line. But this past week as been a real eye-opener, and I’m going to count my blessings, rather than question them.”
I rolled us over until I was on top of her again. “We’ll take this slow, but this is happening, Molly. You and I are happening.”
She gave me the most tender smile. “I like the sound of that, Grayson.”
“Good. Because you’re not getting rid of me. Ever.”
“I like the sound of that, too.”
Epilogue
Molly – (One Year Later)~
I was going to be an aunt.
In a few hours, I was going to be a first-time aunt, and I was a nervous wreck. Sitting in a private waiting room, everyone was here, waiting for Rowan to pop out my nephew. Unlike Mystic and Gage, Rowan and Lorcan hadn’t wanted to be surprised. They had found out they were having a boy as soon as it’d been possible to tell. However, they’d been super unimaginable when they had decided to saddle the little guy with Lorcan’s name, making him the third in line with that name.
Glancing around the room, I wasn’t the only one displaying nervous ticks. Mystic kept tapping her foot while Gage kept rubbing her belly. Granted, he was always rubbing her belly whenever she was pregnant, so I couldn’t say for sure if it was a nervous tick since Mystic was five-months pregnant right now. Besides, the more I thought about it, the more I realized Gage Evans probably never got nervous.
The room was also crowded with Rowan and Grayson’s parents, and mine and Lorcan’s. The twins were playing quietly in the corner, and even Rowan’s grade school friend, Mandy and her footballer husband, Darnell, were here for the festive occasion.
Standing in front of the vending machine-because private usually meant fancy-I searched my options even though I wasn’t really hungry. I was just trying to keep myself from going stir crazy.
A pair of warm arms wrapped around me from behind, and my body automatically sank into the warm embrace. “Mmm…this is nice.”
“Yeah, so, Mom and Dad keep giving me the stink-eye, and I’m guessing it’s because I’m the oldest, yet, here’s Rowan, giving them their first grandchild,” he said, completely ruining the intimate moment I was having.
I laughed as I turned around in his arms. My palms on his chest with his arms still wrapped around my waist, my reply was simple. “Oh, really?”
Grayson nodded. “And to make matters worse, they’re naming the little dude after his grandpa and dad, further cementing the Cavanaugh legacy.” My brows rose in an effort not to laugh. “Yeah, so, as you can guess, that leaves no one naming their kid after my dad.”
“So, you’re saying...?”
“You have to marry me and get knocked up straight away, or else I think we’ll be banned from all holidays from now on.”
I couldn’t hold in my laughter any longer. “We?”
“Fine. Me. But still.”
“I think this is the worse proposal I have ever heard in my life, Grayson,” I chuckled.
“Blame Mom and Dad,” he replied easily. And then the crazy man got down on one knee and presented me with a ring that was so beautiful, I was a tad afraid to wear it. “Marry me, Molly. For the love of God, just marry me already.” He didn’t let me answer. He slid the ring on my finger, and the entire room erupted in applause.
But before anyone could congratulate us, Lorcan was pushing open the door to the waiting room, pure elation on his handsome face. “We got a healthy baby boy, and Rowan is fine, and everything is absolutely fucking perfect.”
Yeah, everything was.
The End.
