The Alpha's Unknown Son: A Shifter Romance

by Skylar Thomas

“Ah, yes, wolfbane … the only thing that can truly kill a werewolf!” Wyatt mocks, waving the syringe in his hand.

I put one hand around my back, feeling the knife’s edges run across my finger. I look to the guards. They are so engulfed in the scene to even notice my actions.

I pull the knife from out of my shorts, getting a good grasp in my hands. My eyes meet Nick’s as I point with my eyes to the knife in my hand. He gives me a brief nod. Hopefully, it’s an indication of understanding to my plan.

Just as Wyatt’s is about to inject Nick, I take this as my chance to do something. I stab the guard to my left in the thigh. A scream comes out from his mouth. Everybody’s eyes goes to us. The syringe drops from Wyatt’s hands.

In a swift movement, Nick’s restraints are off, and Wyatt is on the floor. I move on to the next guard, stabbing him in his neck. He falls as I’m roughly shoved into the ground. I turn my body around to see another guard get ready to stab me.

Without any notice, his neck is snapped by Nick. As the guard falls to the ground, I look around the room for Jason, but he’s nowhere in sight.

“Rose…” I look over to Nick as his body falls to the floor. I bend down to him, taking in all his cuts and bruises.

“Nick, did you see Jason? I don’t know where he went?”

  “Jason? Why?”

I silence him as I hear shouting come from the outside.

“Nick, stay right here. There’s two more out there. I’ll be right back.”

“I’m fine. Let’s go.” He gets up and clasps his hand with mine. We quietly make our way out of the room. I see the two remaining guards look inside each room. I’m assuming they’re looking for Wyatt.

We make our way into one the rooms and hide behind the door. I pick up a rock on the ground and throw it at the wall, trying to draw the attention of the guards.

Not even a minute later, they both enter the room, looking for the source of the sound.

Nick grabs the first one, slitting his throat with a knife he grabbed from the other room. The other guard turns around and stares at us wide-eyed.

  “P-please, don’t. I have children and a—”

Nick cuts his speech off, throwing the knife directly in the center of his forehead.

We have a child too, douchebag. Didn’t stop you from kidnapping us.

I hear a tiny scream come from the closet. I walk over, opening the door all the way. It’s a little girl, huddled in the corner.

“Sweetie, I’m not going to hurt you. I promise.”

She looks down at the man on the floor, pushing herself more into the corner. I block him from her view and put my hands up in surrender.

“I know I may seem like the bad guy, but I promise I’m not. Wyatt kidnapped me too, but he’s dead now. We can leave this place.”

  “You killed my daddy?”

Daddy? Who is this little girl?

Her little arms wrap around my neck, surprising me. I wrap my arms around her, holding on to her as I stand up.

  “What’s your name, baby girl?”

  “Akilah, Akilah Charles!”

I nod and tell her my name. I walk away, but she stops me.

“This is my mommy. She’s dead.” She holds a picture of her and her mom in a tiny room. Akilah was only a baby at that time. On the back of the picture, it reads: Akilah and Aliyah, 2008 , my world.

At the end, it’s signed by Wyatt. I look back down at the little girl in my arms to see her with a sad smile on her lips. I hand her back the picture and kiss her forehead.

I go out of the room with her in my arms and make our way to the exit.

We almost make it to the door just as I feel an intense pain in my leg.

Looking down, I see the syringe stuck in my leg.

“See you soon, cupcake,” Wyatt says before his eye close shut.

I shut my eyes tightly and pull out the syringe. Nick stabs Wyatt again and again as I shield Akilah from him.

“Let’s go, Nick,” I say, making him stop. His eyes are filled with anger.

I ignore the pain to the best of my ability as me, Akilah, and Nick make it out of that house. I engulf the fresh air for the first time in two days, taking my surroundings in.

Oddly enough, the trees look familiar, telling me that we’re not far from our land. We all head there, all of us leaning on each other for support.

About thirty minutes pass by before I catch scent of our pack warriors.

“HELP PLEASE. SOMEBODY, HELP US!” I scream as loud as I can.

My body feels like jell-o, and I can feel the wolfsbane working its way through my system. Just as my eyes close, I see men running towards us.

“Luna, Alpha!” I hand Akilah to one of the guards and grab on to a tree for support.

“Luna, you don’t look too well. Are you …?”

I don’t hear anything else as I collapse to the ground. I feel my body start to shut down as the air escapes my lips.

“Nick,” I whisper, letting the wolfsbane take over my body, officially shutting it down.

  Nick

I catch Rose’s body as she falls. I ignore all my wounds and run her towards the house. As we arrive, Barry and a team of nurses, rush out and grab her. They take her into the infirmary and dissapear behind the doors.

“Nick, we need to help you with your wounds.”

I look up to see Noah and his mate. I don’t have time to respond before my body collapses, everything going black.

The feeling of little fingers poking at my face wakes me up. As I open my eyes, I see Wiliam sitting there with a smile on his face.

  “Daddy, you’re up!”

  “Hey, buddy.”

William hugs me tightly, not even pulling apart when there’s a knock on the door.

Noah comes in, joining us in the hug. More arms join us seconds later. I look up to see my parents and Nathan. I don’t know how long we stayed like that, wrapped up in each other.

“I missed you so much, Daddy!” Will says, clutching to me again after he already let go.

“I missed you too, buddy…so much.” I kiss his forehead, taking in his scent.

“Where’s your mommy?” I ask, but nobody answers. Instead, Will’s eyes fill up with tears.

  “Nobody’s told you?” Noah asks.

I shake my head, growing confused by the second.

  “What is it?”

“Nick, Rose passed out when she got here. She was injected with wolfsbane. It took over her body, Nick. She’s in a coma, and the doctor doesn’t think she will make it.”

My heart shatters at Noah’s words. I don’t even remember her being injected.

“I have to see her.” I get off the bed. Nobody stops me as I slowly make my way out of the room. I make it to the waiting room with my family behind me.

Rose’s parents, brother, and best friend are all sitting down. They are all in a state of despair.

“They’re not letting anybody see her, so you just have to wait like us,” Jake says coldly, not looking towards me.

I do what he says and sits in one of the chairs. William sits on my lap, curling up to me.

Hours pass by, with us sitting there, waiting for any news on Rose. The door opens. Gabriella walks out with a little girl by her side.

The little girl whispers something to her, pointing to me. All eyes go to me, but I can’t remember who the little girl is.

“Alpha, she says that you were there when she was rescued.”

My brows furrow together in confusion. “You were there with Rosealine?”

“Rose saved you?” Marcus asks the little girl.

She nods and whispers a ‘yes’.

“Alpha, she doesn’t have anybody. What do you want me to do?” Gabriella asks me, but it’s hard to think.

“If you don’t mind, Alpha. I can take Akilah,” Donny says from the entryway.

I look to see if Akilah approves, and she nods, so I let Donn
y take her away.

“Have you heard anything, baby?” Noah asks his mate. She shakes her head, a disappointed look on her face.

“The doctor did say that she could have visitors in a little while though, but that’s all I’ve heard.”

“Where’s Jason?” I ask Jake once Gabriella goes back inside.

“You didn’t hear?” My dad asks giving me a dumb look.

  “No, hear what?”

“Jason was helping Wyatt the whole time. His wife came to us after he left and told us his plans. We thought you killed him.”

“That’s what Rose must have been talking about. He ditched when Rose stabbed one of the guards.”

“Wow! Rose stabbed somebody? She’s … I knew she was cool, man!” Nathan says excitedly, making a smile appear on everyone’s face.

Marie leaves to brings us food, coming back with sandwiches and water. I went to change out of my bloody clothes and come back as fast as I could. We all eat in silence, the sad mood taking over us. I put the last bite in my mouth when the doctor comes out. We all stand and wait for him to tell us the news.

“I’m guessing you’re all here for Luna Rose?”

We all nod in sync, rushing him to continue.

“Well, the wolfsbane spread throughout her whole body, initially shutting down her body. We were able to flush most of it out, but with how long she had it in her, it ended up sending her into a coma.”

“Will she be okay, though? Will she survive?” Marcus asks.

“There’s no way to tell for sure. It just depends on how strong her body is. But with the condition she was in these past few days, her chances are slim.”

“Can we see her?” Will asks, hiding behind my leg.

The doctor nods, telling us the way to her room. We all make our way, me and Will in front. Opening the door, Rose lays there, tubes and wires hooked up to her.

We all make it inside the room and stare at her lifeless body.

“I’ll just leave you all here,” The doctors says but I tell him to wait.

  “Did you run her blood?”

He nods, so I continue. “Is she pregnant?”

“Why would she be pregnant?” Jake asks protectively.

I ignore him and look to the doctor.

“No, Alpha. She isn’t. But we did find that there were several rips around the vaginal area. Her chance of getting pregnant again are very slim.”

I nod my head, sadness flooding through me.

Jake waits until the doctor leaves to ask again.

“Wyatt raped her…in front me,” I whisper, so Will wouldn’t hear.

“YOU JUST WATCHED MY SISTER GET RAPED AND YOU DIDN’T DO ANYTHING?” he shouts, throwing his chair across the room.

“I was chained up, Jake. There’s nothing I could do.”

“Bull, Nick! You’re an alpha. You could have broken them.”

“THEY WERE SILVER CHAINS, JAKE, AND I WAS INJECTED WITH DRUGS. I HAD TO SIT THERE AND WATCH. YOU THINK I ENJOYED THAT?“

He doesn’t have time to respond as Rose’s heart monitor starts to go off. Doctors and nurses rush in, pushing us all out of the room.

“MOMMY!” William screams as we watch the heart monitor fall falt.

“Alpha, you need to get out now!”

And with that, the door to the infirmary is slammed to my face.

  CHAPTER 18

  Rose

Walking in the woods, I follow the light that seems to never end. I’ve been walking for hours, days. It doesn’t seem to end. Ducking over a tree, I trip over a branch and fall flat on my face.

“Need some help there?” A voice that sounds vaguely familiar says.

I look up to see my grandfather, standing there, perfectly healthy with an outstretched hand. I take it and stand back up on my feet.

“Gramps?” I question, not believing what I’m seeing.

“Hi there, Rosealine. How have you been, my love?” His hands caresses my face. They’re cold.

“Well, I’m seeing you right now, Gramps. How good could that possibly be?”

His face saddens, and his head turns away from me.

“Rosealine, you’re not dead…at least not yet.” He whispers the last part.

I look at him confused. What’s going on then? As if hearing my thoughts, he continues. “You’re stuck, Rose. Your body is dead, but your brain is not.”

  “What are you saying, Gramps?”

He grabs my hand and lead me away from where I’ve been heading.

“Hey! I’ve been trying to get to the light, and you’re taking me backwards!” I protest, but he just shakes his head.

After getting hit in the head three times with branches and almost breaking my nose on a tree, we stop.

“God, you’re clumsy,” Gramps mutters under his breath. Even dead, he still manages to make fun of me!

“Look,” he says as he points to something in the distance.

  I don’t see anything. “Gramps, there’s nothing—”

“Rosealine, you have to actually try. Stop thinking you’re dead. Get it out of your head. That’s the only way you’re going back.” He grabs my head, turning it to the front. I gasp when I finally see it.

Running through the fields is Will, a little girl, and a boy. They’re holding hands, throwing peddles in the air. I watch closely as a figure closes in on them.

Two strong arms wrap around all children, picking them up, sending them into a fit of giggles. Nick and Will look happy, leaving a smile on my face. They look older. They’ve grown while I was gone.

“You’re missing all this, Rose. You’re going to miss this moment, Rose. You need to go back.”

  “But how, Gramps?”

He shakes his head, both of us watching as the scene in front of us disappears.

“You remember when you were a little girl and you thought you were so brave, so you ran out the house butt naked, announcing that you will destroy all rogues?”

I nod, a laugh escaping my mouth at the memory. I was so embarrassed when I realized I was naked. I didn’t leave my room for a whole day.

“Well, that day, many of the pack warriors came to me. They told me that I had the greatest granddaughter in the world, and that they knew that one day you would achieve something great. Rosealine, you just didn’t do something great; you did something amazing. You saved your mate, saved a little girl, and managed to get them both to safety! Nobody I know could have done that. But you did. If anybody knows how to leave this place, it’s you.”

I look at him giving me an ear-to-ear smile. Oh, how I missed them. I wrap my arms around his neck, holding on to him tightly.

“I miss you so much, Gramps,” I whisper through the tears.

“I missed you too, Rose, but I have to go.”

I nod and kiss his cheek before pulling away.

“You can do this, Rosealine. You wouldn’t be my granddaughter if you couldn’t.” And with that he’s gone.

I wipe away the stray tears from my eyes. I take a deep breath, trying to free my mind to think of a way to get back.

“Care for assistance?” Somebody asks from behind me. I jump back, landing on my butt.

I look up at the man who I thought I escaped from. But Wyatt isn’t alone. A beautiful woman is hanging to his arm who I recognize as Aliyah.

“G-get a-away from me!” I scoot back, my back hitting a tree.

Wyatts face forms into a frown.

“You don’t have to be scared of him, Rose. He’s not ill anymore.” Aliyah rub her hands up and down Wyatt’s arms.

  “Ill?”

“Yes, Rosealine, I was very sick. I wasn’t in the right state of mind when I did those horrible things to you.”

“You did them twice, Wyatt! I don’t believe you were sick!” I shout back, a wave of anger coming all over me.

“You should, Rosealine. Wyatt was very sick when he came here. I was able to cure him and forgive him for all his doings,” a lady says from beside me in the most angel
ic voice I’ve ever heard. I look at her face to see it practically glowing. Her body is also doing the same thing … almost like an apparition.

‘It’s her,’ Aurora whispers in my head, making an appearance for the first time since the kidnapping.

  ‘Who?’

  ‘The Moon Goddess.’

  I gasp. “Your the t-the…”

“Yes, my child, I am. My name is Evalena. Stand up, my child. We have some things to talk about.”

I obey, taking her hand and letting her help me up. I remain my distance from Wyatt, keeping close to the moon goddess herself.

“Why are you here, Rose?” she asks, catching me off guard.

I stop in my tracks, causing Wyatt to bump into me. I growl, not liking his touch on my skin. He backs up his hand in the air, showing surrender.

“I-I don’t know, really. Do you?” I ask, looking up at her. She smiles at me, nodding her head and continues walking.

“Wait, you’re not going to tell me?” I ask, running to catch up to her. Why are her legs so long?

“No, my child. I’m not going to tell you. I’m going to show you.”

I look at her, confusion written all over my face. She laughs silently and points her hand to the left.

Looking in that direction, I stare at a bunch of trees. I want to ask her what I’m looking at, and then it finally appears.

My body is lifted out of a trunk and carried inside a building. The scene changes to when Wyatt first visited me. I watch in horror as the memories of just a few hours ago happens all over again. It doesn’t last long as the scene changes again to what happened in the torture chamber. Guards fall down as me and Nick escapes, but not before I was stabbed.

“You see, my beautiful child, the one thing on this earth that kills my children was injected inside of you. You should have went down way before you did, but you didn‘t.” She ends with a smile on her face. I look at her, dumbfounded, not knowing what any of this has to do with anything.

“That means that you’re not supposed to be here, my love. You need to return to your family and friends back on earth.”

“But how am I supposed to do that? I don’t have red slippers to click me back home!”
