AUTHOR’S NOTE
I read the following books to help me imagine Billy’s survival guide from Sylvia: One, which I liked so much that I borrowed its title, was How to Survive by Brian Hildreth. Others which also proved extremely helpful were Survival: The Ultimate Guide to Staying Alive in Extreme Conditions and Emergency Situations in the World by Anthonio Akkermans, Peter G. Drake, Bill Mattos and Andy Middleton and Survival Skills: How to Survive in the Wild by Simon Ellar.
I also spent quite a lot of time on YouTube watching people making fires. One of the most useful and enjoyable videos I watched many times over was called Advanced Tips For A Successful Bowdrill Fire by Survival Lilly.
I hope you might enjoy researching some of the incredible skills that Billy mastered and perhaps you can try them out for yourself. But, as Billy learned, they’re most fun when they’re done together – just don’t forget to ask permission!
