Silverstein nodded, laying down beside Taylor on the floor by the front door. Ezra stepped outside and vanished into the darkness. Taylor stirred as the door closed.
“Where are we?” Taylor whispered.
“We’re at the cabin,” Silverstein replied, breathing a sigh of relief.
“Why did you pull me away? I could have helped so many people.”
“Aside from preventing Madmar getting access to the Lunar AIs and lording over us from the Lunar Colony?” he replied.
“I saw the virus, I was going to shut myself down before it got to me,” Taylor replied.
“When you say shut down, you mean die, right?”
“My life, if I even count, in exchange for how many others?”
“You count,” Silverstein said holding her closer.
“You still haven’t answered my question. Why did you pull me away?”
“Back when we first met, I promised you I wouldn’t let anything happen to you. I’d let the whole world go dark before I would break that promise.”
