I shut my eyes for a bit, only to rest them but ended up falling asleep. I awoke to the sound of gravel under Scott’s tyres driving up the driveway towards Kings Ridge. The cottage looked dark and lonely. It had been locked up for the last two days.
* * *
“Well, looks like I kept to my word Sassenach and got you home safely and in one piece,” Scott proudly said.
* * *
“Was a bit touch and go there on a few occasions Scott, but yes you did well, thank you,” I said.
* * *
I leaned over and gave him a kiss before quickly jumping out and announcing, “Dibs on the shower first.”
* * *
Scott agreed and said, “All yours Letticia, this Scottish warrior has to get a fire started first to keep his Sassenach warm tonight. By the way, while you were fast asleep and drooling on the way home, I got a phone call from my tenant. Turns out he got a promotion at work and is having to relocate, so is leaving Kings Ridge. He will only be back to pack his stuff up, so we can stay here for as long as we like now.”
* * *
“That’s great news Scott, but I will need to go home soon to my girls in Australia anyway.”
* * *
Scott didn’t say a word, and I rushed off to have a much-needed shower.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Kings Ridge, home sweet home
Scott and I were now both freshly showered, and any trace of that scum bag Emmett on us was now well and truly washed down the drain. We were about to sit down to a nice meal of a frozen pie that had been heated up in the oven along with frozen vegetables and white sauce, and to top it off a glass of red in hand. “Slaandjivaa,” Scott said as he raised his glass. I replied, “Cheers to that mate,” in my very Australian accent.
We ate dinner with gratitude that night, a newfound appreciation for a hot meal, table, and chairs along with a civilised glass of wine. were It was something we hadn’t experienced on our two-day camping trip. Midway through dinner Scott brought up the whole leaving and going back to Australia issue. He was not one bit happy about it, and tried to convince me to stay and to move the girls over. But he knew oh so well that was out of the question. We couldn’t, we didn’t have visas and therefore were unable to live here in Scotland.
I reminded Scott that he still had a contract to finish back in Australia anyway so we could be together when he returns. He was unsure if he was going to return to Australia though, let alone that hospital. He had gone through a life-changing experience there and for now, he felt comfortable staying here at Kings Ridge.
“Well there we have it then Scott, you stay here, and I go back to Australia,” I said angrily.
“You sound angry Letticia,” Scott said.
“Too right I am. You have the ability to stay in Australia, I don’t have the ability to stay here in Scotland, but you would soon see the woman you supposedly love have to leave and go move across to the other side of the world rather than you go with her just because you feel more comfortable here. I thought you were adventurous Scott, I didn’t know you were the type to choose the easy road. You know what Scott, you do what you have to do because right now what I need to do is make myself a cup of tea and take it to bed with me while I book my flights home.”
“Letticia, you are mixing my words up. I never said any of that,” Scott replied.
“You didn’t have to, Scott,” I said as I picked up my plate to wash it. I was standing in the kitchen feeling hot under the collar. I was angry with Scott, I just needed to be on my own for a bit and write in my journal. I flicked the kettle on. I was looking forward to a nice cup of tea. I reached high above me to get a teacup but couldn’t reach. Damn you Scott, who puts teacups so high up for people like me not to be able to reach, I thought to myself. Just another reason I could be angry with Scott I thought.
My arm was stretched out with just my fingertips maneuvering the cup closer to the edge so my hand could fully get a grip on it. I had almost got it when Scott’s arm reached out alongside my arm and took hold of the cup for me.
“I almost had that Scott. I didn’t need your help you know,” I said in anger.
“Would you just shut up Letticia and kiss me.”
“No Scott, I will not shut up and kiss you,” I replied in anger, but somehow I now found my tongue all locked inside Scott’s mouth. “Damn you Scott, how the hell did you get me in this position. Damn you and your Scottish attributes that make me lose all inner control.”
We were about to make love for the first time in reality, in the same exact scenario as we had in our dreams only days before. I did as I was told and kissed Scott. I felt all the frustrated sexual tension between us dissolve as he lifted me up onto the bench after doing the arm sweep that you see in movies, clearing all the objects off the bench in one go.
He lay me down ever so slowly before sliding his hand up my nightie while his other hand caressed my breast, all the time never letting his lips leave mine. Wow, this Scottish warrior of mine had skills, I thought to myself. He was triple-tasking as I just lay there being indulged with pleasure. As he kissed me, he now started to talk. Wow, now here he was quadruple tasking, was there nothing my Scottish warrior couldn’t do? Yeah, maybe move back to Australia with me, I answered myself in my head. Which only brought back my anger, but it only lasted a second before forgetting about it as Scott continued.
“Letticia, I love you. Just tell me you will stay. We will sort all the logistics out later, just give me your word you will stay, I cannot live without you.”
He had caught me in a time of selfishness due to the pleasure he was creating for me. I didn’t want to think of reality at a time like this. It was all about me. My Scottish warrior was only moments away from making me organism with delight.
“Yes, whatever you want Scott, just stop talking,” I said while focusing on one thing and one thing only, the pleasure Scott was providing me at the very present time. I was just living in the present, as I had been told to do many times before. Scott did as he was told and stopped talking and continued to attend to my needs. His muscular torso was on top of me. I could feel his abs moving as he grinded deep inside me.
His hair was scruffy and sweat started to form on his back, I could feel the drips as my hands ran up and down his spine. He started talking again while he was deep inside me.
“Aye Letticia, I knew I wanted you from the moment I met you in my dreams, and my wanting has never stopped. I want to be yours forever and I want you to be mine forever.”
Sweat had started to form on his top brow, I wiped it away as I shhhhhed him. I was in no mood for talking at this very moment. He lifted me off the bench top and carried me over to the couch that was in front of the fire. He sat down first, all the while still inside me. I was now sitting on his lap, my legs wrapped around his waist. I looked down at him as he looked up at me. “You are so beautiful Letticia. You are the woman of my dreams,” Scott said.
I laughed, “Literally,” I replied, as we came close to climax with only a few more moments to go until the full impact of the orgasm took hold. We stopped moving, allowing our orgasms to lead us to the finish line and enjoying every moment. As waves of pleasure flowed through my body it wasn't until the last wave approached and left my body did I allow myself to open my eyes and watch Scott, who was still enjoying the end of his climax while still deep inside of me. He stayed there for a while longer before pulling out.
“Wow, we need to have disagreements more often Letticia.” Scott joked.
“Well if that’s the outcome of a disagreement with you my Scottish warrior then yeah, bring on many more disagreements please,” I said.
Through pure exhaustion, Scott and I fell asleep in each other’s arms on the couch. Neither of us had any leftover energy in ourselves to make it up the ladder and into bed that night. I had lost track of time altogether and had no idea what time we had finally fallen asleep. All I knew was a deep, long sleep was had by the
both of us that night, as we didn’t wake until 10 am the next morning when a racket outside stirred us. We both opened our eyes at the same time.
Scott turned to me and said, “Good morning, sleep well?”
“Like a baby,” I answered.
The noise outside grew louder, it caught our attention again. “Blimey what is that noise out there?” I said.
“I know that voice, it’s been hounding me for the last seventeen years. It can only be the one and only Brysen,” Scott said.
Scott got up first, he was completely naked. The curtains were open; we didn’t draw them last night due to other things that were occupying our minds. A very nice sight to start the day with, I thought. He quickly found his boxers and slipped them on before making his way to the front door. He opened it up to find Brysen and Bonnie throwing a rugby ball around the yard.
“Son, what on earth are you doing?” Scott said as he crossed his arms to try and keep the warmth of his body secure.
“Morning, sorry did we wake you? I saw you and Letticia snuggled up on the couch asleep so thought we would let you be for a bit. By the way, there goes one of the many questions I wanted answered, answered already,” Brysen teased.
“Aye, get inside you two before I freeze to death,” Scott said. Standing at the door in nothing but his boxers “Actually just give us a minute or two so Letticia can get dressed would you?” Scott added.
“Aye of course father,” Brysen said with a wink, just one of the many traits he had inherited from his father. “So good night, I take it, was it?” Brysen continued to tease his father. Scott picked up a gumboot that was beside the front door and threw it towards him.
“Aye steady on father, I take it that was a ‘hell yeah’ then!” Brysen said.
“No that was a ‘mind your own business son’,” Scott teased back.
“Aye, leave your poor father alone Brysen, just because he is old doesn’t mean he too can't have fun with a special lady such as Letticia,” Bonnie added.
Scott picked up the other boot and threw it towards Bonnie this time. “Aye and just who are you calling ‘old’ Bonnie? I’m not yet 40,” Scott said sounding annoyed. “You can both come in in a minute and not a second sooner, you hear,” Scott said as he turned around and shut the door to give his special lady a moment’s privacy to make herself more presentable after a night of passion with her Scottish warrior.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
All is revealed
* * *
Brysen, Bonnie, Scott and I were now all settled comfortably inside Kings Ridge.
Bonnie was in the kitchen rustling up some scones to have with our tea.
* * *
“Aye, my Bonnie is quite the baker she is,” Brysen said proudly.
* * *
“Well fancy that, I would never have guessed,” I said sarcastically out loud by mistake.
* * *
Brysen looked at me with a confused look. He was about to ask me to explain what I meant when Scott quickly jumped in to diffuse the whole situation and made up some story that had no truth to it whatsoever, “Because, because ummmm, Scottish women are not known for their baking abilities, that’s why isn’t it Letticia?” Scott said.
* * *
“Yes, that’s exactly right, Scottish woman are not known for their domestic abilities,” I replied half-heartedly.
* * *
Brysen wasn’t convinced and neither was Bonnie, who looked rather insulted. but Scott quickly changed the subject. “Anyway, what are you two doing here so early?”
* * *
“Well father, by my watch it doesn’t read early, but then I didn’t have a late night, did I?” Brysen said with a wink and a nudge to Scott. Scott had that same gumboot throwing face upon his face again which made Brysen get back to the point straight away.
* * *
“Nah but in all seriousness, we came around to make sure you arrived back safely but also to find out why on earth you two went to such an out there and strange convention about mythical Scottish goddesses all the way at Sandwood Bay?”
* * *
‘Well we will tell you why, but first, let’s get some jam and cream scones in our bellies. It is a rather long story,” Scott warned them both.
* * *
“We have all day, don’t we Bonnie?” Brysen said.
* * *
“Sure do,” Bonnie replied.
* * *
Scott and I sat at one end of the table, hand in hand, as a strong and committed unit. We were in control and were confident that Brysen and Bonnie would understand what they were about to hear.
* * *
“So, as you have already guessed, Letticia and I are together and extremely happy, to say the least. But it’s how we met that is going to be hard for you to digest. You see, we didn’t meet through mutual friends, at a bar, or on a dating site, but rather in each other’s dreams.”
* * *
Scott stopped there to give Brysen and a Bonnie a moment to register what Scott had just said. They didn’t say a word, just had a stunned, blank look upon their faces.
* * *
Scott continued. “Well anyway, a long story short. While Letticia was in her coma she had a dream that she travelled to Scotland and while she was there, she met me. However, I too was having the same dream where I meet Letticia in Scotland. We fell in love with each other in our dreams and when she woke from her coma and we were both now, in reality, our love for one another didn’t stop.”
* * *
I had to interrupt Scott there. “Well it didn’t for me, but it took your father a wee while longer to admit it and come to terms with it all,” I said.
* * *
“Letticia really, we have been through this, I never stopped loving you I just needed time to get my head around everything,” Scott said.
* * *
Brysen looked amused. “Ok, so what you are saying is you two had never met each other until you met in your dreams?”
* * *
“Yeah, that’s correct,” Scott and I said at the same time.
* * *
“Ok, um I’m not sure what is in that Australian water down under, but do you know how insane that sounds?” Brysen asked.
* * *
“Of course, it sounds pretty farfetched but it’s the truth son,” Scott said.
* * *
“Ok, so say it is the truth. That still doesn’t explain why you two went off to the mythical Scottish goddess convention for the weekend,” Brysen said.
* * *
“Because we found out about this goddess called Caer Ibormeith, the Celtic Goddess of Dreams. We found out she was a shapeshifter who transformed herself into a swan and who chose her man by coming to him in his dreams. Just as Letticia did to me.” Brysen laughed but continued to listen.
* * *
“I know it all sounds crazy, but it is just a myth that corresponded with Letticia and my experience, we just had to go and find out more.”
* * *
Brysen was a well-mannered young man and I wasn’t sure if he really believed in any of this stuff, but rather, he just decided to give us the benefit of the doubt and gave me a hug. “If you make my father happy that’s all that matters,” Brysen said to me.
* * *
“Oh, she makes me more than happy son,” Scott replied.
* * *
“Well, in that case, that’s all that matters. Anyway, thanks for trusting Bonnie and I and confiding in us. I understand it must have been very hard for you. We both really appreciate your honesty,” Brysen said.
* * *
“Anytime son,” Scott replied.
* * *
Brysen and Bonnie left not long after that conversation as they needed to be at band practice. Either that, or they needed to escape from two crazy people making crazy assumptions.
* * *
After I had freshened up, I asked Scott if I could borrow his car to go into town and pick up some things
from the supermarket. “Yes, of course, Letticia,” Scott said without a moment’s thought. I was starting to really enjoy this new-found partnership in this relationship.
* * *
I drove into Edinburgh and decided to grab a coffee before I did the grocery shopping. I also went into the travel agency to look at booking my flight home. I was fully aware that in the heat of the moment last night I had agreed to Scott’s request for me to stay here and move Polly and Leah over also, but we were not legally allowed to live here. So I decided to book my ticket and put it on hold for twenty-four hours while I talked to Scott that evening. It was going to be another very hard conversation that needed to be had.
* * *
I arrived back to Kings Ridge two hours later. Scott was sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair. All he needed was a long bit of straw hanging out of his mouth and he would have fitted in well on an old western movie set. I pulled up and parked his car carefully beside the cottage.
