You're Going Down (The World Book 3)

The run back ended up being quite peaceful. I mean seriously, how could it not be? Even though we now faced an overwhelming invasion force, getting laid by Ulia and completing my Nightmare quest had temporarily cleared the stress and worry that had been weighing down my mind. It was a nice reprieve after the constant worry of the last few days.

The funny thing about running long distances, especially in a FIVR game, was that it gave you a lot of time to think, especially since I had Ulia and Neysa keeping a watch on our surroundings. So, the first thing I did was call up the system windows I’d ignored during my fight through BrokenFang’s central keep. Clicking through the windows brought a huge grin to my face.

The rest of the windows were a few ability increases that I quickly okay’d through without looking. With a silent cheer at my new level, I quickly popped open my Character sheet to check out my new Class and spells. The Death Knight title instantly caught my eye. Especially since I hadn’t ever specified a class one way or another. Did the game automatically classify my build based on my stats and skills or was my title flexible? With how much I used spells, I would have expected to be classified more as a Necromancer. Looking over my new spells, I immediately realized that I needed to reconsider my point distribution.

After being nearly pummeled to death by a Level 40 Boss, I’d initially planned on putting all of my new Attribute Points into Strength, but once I looked over my new spells for Dark Magic, I immediately realized that I needed to focus on increasing my Intelligence instead. 200 points in Intelligence would give me the ability to have up to four undead pets simultaneously or, to break it down in other words, if I put three more levels into intelligence, I’d be my own wrecking team. Now imagine that plus another four players and Neysa teamed up with me for a dungeon crawl. Unconsciously, my lips twisted into a grin as I whistled softly looking over my stats. “I was becoming one overpowered mother fucker.”

Immediately I felt the urge to find something to kill so that I could try out my new spell. If my undead pets fought anything like the feral zombies I’d run across; I was going to be one tough mother to take down. The last window that caught my eye was the report that Neysa was Level 27. Quickly I popped open her Character window from my HUD. My eyes widened in surprise as I started going over the available ‘feat’ system for pets.

Now that Neysa had gained 17 levels, she had three feats slots currently available. The basic choices were interesting, to say the least. I could choose to increase Neysa’s ability to damage by giving her special attacks such as bite or slash, increase her carrying capacity by twenty pounds or increase her base stats with a small boost to agility or stamina.

Even more interesting then the steady increase in her carrying capacity was the six slots that now showed up as available to be added to her body. There were slots available for her head, jaws, neck, front paw, rear paws, and back. I was curious to see what crafted items could be added to a combat pet. The back slot was easy enough to figure out since she was considered a combat mount that could have her carrying-weight increased. It had to be for something like a saddle with bags. The neck slot was probably for something like a spiked collar or amulet. Again, basic equipment that was easy enough to figure out. What really got me wondering was the slots for her paws, head, and jaws. Anyone up for steel-tipped fangs? I chuckled to myself as I pictured the little Silver Dire Wolf covered in armor. I guess we’d just have to wait and see.

For now, I had a much more difficult decision to make. Did I focus on having Silver Dire Wolf be a damage dealing machine or should I spec her out for being a mount? At lower levels having an additional damage dealing pet could greatly increase my leveling speed. While that was all well and good, mounts in most games tended to be extremely expensive. Besides marking a player as being an Elite, mounts increased speed tended to open up entire new areas for exploration. A good example of this was that I could have made the trip to BrokenFang Hold from Requiem in half a day instead of two.

Doing the math, it looked like Neysa would be able to handle carrying me around Level 50 if I put all of her special abilities into increased carrying capacity. While that cut down on her available attacks, it did mean that she could at lea
st carry extra gear in the interim if I could buy or craft something like a saddle with bags to fit her back slot. While the extra damage would have been nice, with my Intelligence being so high, I could now field three pure attack pets with a fourth just a few levels off. Altogether, that made the decision easy enough as I put all three feats into carrying capacity, which gave her the following stats:

Combat Mount: Neysa (Silver Dire Wolf)

  Level: 27

  Strength: 17

  Intelligence: 17

  Spirit: 17

  Agility: 17

  Stamina: 17

  Charisma: 17

  Attack: 17-27

  Speed: 0.5

  Weight-Carrying Capacity: 60

Special Abilities: Increased carrying capacity 20 lbs x3

Shared Experience: 10% (up to a max of 50%)

Additional Information: Your mount is bound to your soul. Unlike regular mounts, this mount can participate in combat alongside its owner like a summoned creature or tamed pet. At each fifth level, combat mounts can choose additional feats. To access the feats available for your combat mount, open the properties of your pet to choose from the available selection. Should your mount be slain in your service, your mount will lose all of its current level experience and remains unsummonable for the next twenty-four hours.
