Wicked And Wild
Page 28
The raven flew away.
Valerie wrapped her arms around Griffin. “You’ve got such a wonderfully wicked side.”
He pulled her closer. She’d cloaked her scent from him. Hadn’t made a sound. Sneaky witch.
“Just another thing I love about you,” Valerie added.
Griffin lowered his head.
“But you need to know something…”
He stared into her eyes.
“I didn’t love him. Not the way I love you. Nothing has ever felt like this. You are my world, Griffin. And I’m better, I’m stronger, with you at my side.”
“Good.” He feathered a kiss over her lips. “Because that’s where I’ll always be.”
Her smile took his breath away. But then her eyes narrowed. Suspicion slid onto her face. “You know…I’ve been wondering about exactly what your third beast is. I mean, I know you turn into a dragon and a wolf…”
He’d been keeping some of his own secrets.
“You and Edgar seemed awfully chummy,” Valerie added. He saw the moment the truth clicked into her eyes. “You’re a raven!”
“Guilty.” And only some of those many times had she actually been stroking Edgar’s chest. The times the guy had been talking trash to her. The rest of the time, Griffin had gone to her. He had perched on her shoulder. He’d flown overhead, wanting to make sure she was okay. He’d stayed near her, just because he liked to be close.
He knew something special when he saw it.
“Sweetheart, let’s get the hell out of here,” Griffin murmured. They’d spent enough time in dungeons. The world was waiting.
Their world. Their life.
Wicked. Wild.
And everything in between.
Epilogue
The witch had tamed a dragon.
Leo, the newly minted Lord of the Dark, stared out at the blue ocean waves. He tapped his fingers against his thigh. He was still getting used to being in charge of the “bad” paranormals. They sure as hell did things he didn’t expect.
Mora strolled to his side. She pressed a kiss to his shoulder. His beautiful Fate.
“Should I be worried?” Leo had to ask her the question. “I mean, she came back from the dead.”
“Valerie is stronger than Death. She always was.”
Again…not good. “She’s got a dragon at her beck and call.”
“The better to keep her enemies at bay.”
His gaze jerked to her. There had just been something about the way she said that particular phrase…The better to… “Love, did you set her up with the dragon?”
She smiled. “Me? You think I guided her to the dungeon where they first met?”
Shit, she had. “You do realize that—together—they could be strong enough to take me down.”
“They aren’t your enemies. In fact, you play your cards right, and they might just be your best allies.”
He wasn’t sure he liked the sound of that. But, a close ally was better than a sworn enemy so…
“Besides, Valerie and I are besties.” She gave him a wide grin. “Didn’t I mention that to you?”
His temples were going to explode. “No.”
“We’ve been friends…forever.”
“You helped her. All along. You told her what was going to happen—”
“That would be cheating.”
Only if they were all playing some insane game.
“Besides, I didn’t need to tell her. Valerie always had great instincts.” She kissed his shoulder again. “And she’ll help you, when you need her.”
He shouldn’t ask. He should not ask. “Why am I going to need her?”
Her gaze lifted upward, as she stared at the clouds. “I’m afraid things aren’t looking so good up there. In fact, you may just never know when someone will fall.”
A fallen angel? Hell. “I need a drink.”
“You should probably have two…and maybe we should invite Valerie and Griffin over for dinner.”
Not good. Not…
“You know the old saying, ‘Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.’” She turned and headed back for the house.
He stared after her. “I thought you said they were our friends.”
She kept walking.
“They are friends, right?”
She glanced over her shoulder. “How about we just see what happens next?”
Shit. Maybe he’d get three drinks.
But Mora laughed. “Got you.”
He scooped her into his arms and held her tight. “Baby…”
“Witches can have mates, you know. They don’t form the bond quite like shifters, and it’s rare, but when a witch finds her true soul mate…legend says that nothing can separate them. That together, they can even beat Death.”
So that was what they’d done.
“And when I use the word ‘legend’—I mean, of course, myself. I’m the one who knew that a true bonding couldn’t be stopped.”
Sometimes, she was scary. And sexy as all hell. He kissed her. “Let’s go be bad, love,” Leo murmured against her mouth. “Very, very bad…”
“Thought you’d never ask.”
The End
Have you read Cynthia Eden’s Lazarus Rising series yet? Lazarus Rising begins with NEVER LET GO!
Never Let Go
He was more than just a man…
Dr. Elizabeth Parker didn’t like wild, dangerous men…yet she still found herself falling for sexy Navy SEAL Sawyer Cage. He was her exact opposite—a man she should definitely stay away from, a man who lived for the thrill of danger…but he was also the man she found herself wanting more than any other.
But their secret relationship ended in heartbreak when Sawyer was killed on a mission. Grieving for him, the last thing Elizabeth ever expected was to find Sawyer listed as a test subject for the top secret government project she was heading—a project called Lazarus.
For years, Elizabeth had worked feverishly to unlock the secrets of life and death, and with her Lazarus formula, she finally thought she’d made a breakthrough. Only she never expected to use Lazarus on her lover.
But the choice is taken out of Elizabeth’s hands…
Sawyer is given the Lazarus formula, and he’s transported to a remote government facility. At that facility, Sawyer wakes once more, only he’s not the same man. He’s stronger, he’s faster, his reflexes and his senses are ten times better than an average man’s. The government calls Sawyer a super soldier… Elizabeth still calls him…hers.
Unfortunately, Sawyer has no memory of his life before Lazarus. All he knows is that something about the sexy doctor awakes a primal response in him. He wants her, and he’ll do anything to possess her. Soul-deep, he feels that she was meant to be his.
Death waits in the darkness.
But something is wrong inside the Lazarus facility. The test subjects are holding back secrets, and danger seems to lurk in the air. The Lazarus subjects are super-human now, and some of those subjects have a very, very dark side. Twisted cravings drive them to the very edge of sanity. Can Sawyer keep Elizabeth safe from the madness around them…or will the growing darkness consume them both?
