Always Denver (Maple Hart)

My pulse spiked. My body felt like a furnace. I realized I wanted Wayne’s knot.

I imagined our apartment, full of noise and laughter—the pitter-patter of tiny feet as my big and protective Alpha played chase with our kids.

I would stand on one side, playing the bad parent but secretly, I was smiling inside.

The vision felt so real, it made my heart ache.

Damn. What was going on in my head?

“Please.” That was the only word I could utter.

Wayne began to rut me, eventually finding a rhythm that suited us both. I moaned as Wayne pounded me into the mattress.

I began meeting him for every push.

  I begged. I moaned. I whimpered.

Wayne changed the angle of his thrusts and found my prostate. My mind blanked. The room fell away from my line of sight.

Wayne shoved his cock inside me one last time and I shattered. I emptied my balls, gasping and softly calling out his name over and over again.

Wayne pistoned in and out of me a few more times. Then I felt it, Wayne’s knot swelling inside me. I pressed my cheek against the sheets, waiting.

It didn’t hurt at all. I was still riding the aftershocks of pleasure.

Wayne unknotted me, filling my ass with his seed. That task done, he pulled out of me. I slumped against the sheets, completely wasted and content.

Wayne left me in bed. I heard him moving around the room. He returned, with a towel in hand. He cleaned both of us up. I scooted further up the bed.

My Alpha joined me soon after. Wayne snuggled next to me. His skin burned so hotly, I doubted I’d need a comforter tonight.

“This feels good, doesn’t it?” He murmured against my ear.

With the front of Wayne’s body pressed up against the curve of my back, I could feel his dick, resting between my ass cheeks.

I was almost tempted to rub up against him, despite feeling a little sore, but I stopped myself at the last second.

I could do this. I’d behave because this wasn’t a race. We could take all the time in the world.

“Not good,” I said. “It’s perfect. I had no idea why we didn’t do this earlier.”

Wayne nuzzled my neck. He moved his mouth to my pulse point. I smiled to myself when I felt the imprint of his teeth against my skin.

Wayne slid one hand over my thigh, giving my cock a squeeze as he left me a hickey. I squirmed against him, making him groan.

“Stop that or you’ll tempt me to fuck you all over again,” Wayne growled in my ear.

“I can’t help it. It’s hard to behave when I’m lying next to my hot and gorgeous Alpha.”

  “You really mean that?”

Wayne never struck people as someone who had insecurities. My Alpha always looked so tough and a little scary but that was only on the outside.

Only with me, Wade would show his vulnerable side. I twisted in his arms. Wayne loosened his grip so I could turn on my side and look him in the eyes.

Because he was my best friend and my soul mate, I opened my heart to him.

“I’m sorry for the way I’ve acted earlier. I was an ass.”

  “You were.” Wayne conceded.

I nudged him sharply in the ribs. “Hey, you’re supposed to take my side.”

Wayne grunted. He suddenly wore a serious expression on his face. “Denver, don’t run.”

“I won’t,” I blurted. “I’m not an idiot. I can see a good thing especially when it's staring me right in the face.”

I closed my mouth and realized that wasn’t true. Wayne had been by my side since we were teenagers but we weren’t in high school anymore.

I touched his cheek, pleased he lifted my hand and kissed my fingers one by one.

God. I didn’t deserve this man.

Wayne was amazing. He was patient and understanding. It didn’t help he was also sexy as sin. For years, I tried to ignore my attraction to my best friend but all my walls were finally down.

“I’ll do better,” I promised him. “I won’t screw up this one good thing in my life. Don’t worry.”

“I’m not. I’m keeping you, Denver. Even if you run, if self-doubts plagued you again, I’ll hunt you down to the ends of the earth and drag you back.”

  I bit back a laugh. “Don’t you think that’s a little overdramatic?”

Wayne only smiled and kissed me gently on the mouth. “Go to sleep, Denver. It’s late.”

  “Okay.”

  Denver

I woke up that morning, feeling like I was on the top of the world. My ass ached. Heck, my entire body did but in a very good way.

The events of last night came back to me. I remembered Wayne wrapping his big body over mine. He held me until I fell asleep.

I peeled my eyes open, expecting to see my big Alpha snoozing next to me. The space next to me was empty. I sat up slowly, biting on my lower lip.

Seeing the hastily scribbled note on the pillow filled me with relief.

“Went out to grab breakfast,” I read out loud.

I relaxed. Here I was reacting like a madman when there was no reason to worry.

I’ve made plenty of mistakes in the past. I’ve indulged in a couple of one-night-stands only to regret them later on. Of course, Wayne wasn’t going to leave me hanging.

I grabbed the remote and turned the TV on, only for my phone to vibrate. I found it under my pillow. I answered immediately, thinking it was Wayne.

“I want waffles with plenty of syrup,” I said.

In my head, I pictured leaving half of my waffles and having Wayne eat them off my chest. Yum yum.

Wayne wouldn’t be able to resist me one bit. We just had sex last night and already, I couldn’t wait to feel Wayne’s cock inside me again.

I wanted him to remind me who owned me now. That the status between us had changed.

  “Uh, Denver? It’s Gideon.”

“Oh. Oops. Hey, Gideon. Are you and Garth back in town?” I asked, switching gears.

I pulled my mind away from the gutter. Gideon had only been gone for a couple of days and I already missed talking to him.

Wayne was my best friend, my everything but I sometimes needed to vent all my frustrations and problems to another person. My cousin Gideon was my second best friend.

“Yeah. We had a really good time.”

I could almost imagine Gideon’s sheepish expression. My cousin was stupidly and madly in love with his mountain man Alpha but I couldn’t blame him. Garth was a looker but he had nothing on my Wayne.

“Where are you anyway? I swung by your apartment to give you some souvenirs but Wayne and you weren’t home.”

  “Maple View Hotel.”

  Gideon whistled. “Fancy.”

“It’s kind of a long story,” I admitted. “But all you need to know is this—Wayne and I? We’re together now.”

Gideon let out a loud squeal. I cringed. I could hear someone, Garth probably, asking him what was wrong.

“Finally! Yes, I won the bet.”

I narrowed my eyes. “What bet?”

“Todd said you guys were never getting together. Clark also said the same thing but I told them it was only a matter of time Wayne made his move.”

“I want to kill you all,” I grumbled, but Gideon heard the affection in my voice.

I loved my annoying, interfering family to pieces but sometimes, they were too much.

“So, how was it? Give me details, Denver. How did it happen?” Gideon demanded.

“You sound way too interested in us.” I pointed out.

“Give me a break. We just came from our honeymoon but since I’m getting bigger, I’m stuck at home, watching soap operas. I’m bored out of my mind.” Gideon whined.

I softened. Gideon was way into the later stages of being pregnant. He was about to give birth in a week or two.

“Well, it started with me receiving Ken’s wedding invitation,” I began.

By the done I’m done regaling Denv
er with the tale of how I got Wayne in bed, or rather how we ended up having the best night of our lives, the door to the hotel room opened.

Wayne entered, carrying breakfast with him. The smell of waffles and bacon made my stomach growl.

“I’ll tell you more the next time we meet,” I told Gideon. “My man’s back with breakfast.”

“Your man, huh?” Gideon teased. “You guys better show at my mom’s barbecue next weekend.”

“We will,” I assured my cousin. Gideon hung up on me.

“Who was that?” Wayne asked, pulling out breakfast food from the bag and setting them on the bed.

Wayne was wearing a thin green shirt that highlighted all the muscles in his firm chest, a pair of worn-in jeans that rode low on his hips, and his favorite pair of boots.

I licked my lips. Now that we were no longer pretending we were just friends, I let him see the appreciation in my eyes.

“Gideon,” I answered. “Garth and he are back from their honeymoon. I told him our status had changed and how I seduced you into having sex with me.”

Wayne snorted, handing me a takeout box. I grabbed it and leaned against the incredibly soft pillows.

I popped open my take-out box. Seeing the waffles slattered with copious amounts of syrup, I grinned. Wayne hadn’t forgotten the whipped cream and two additional scoops of vanilla ice cream either.

  “You do know me.”

  “Of course.”

Wayne settled next to me in bed. I leaned my head against his shoulder, remembering all the mornings we sat just like this in our living room. When there was nothing to watch, we settled on morning cartoons.

I didn’t pay attention to the television. I gobbled up my waffles and kept sneaking glances at Wayne, who was devouring a container of French toast.

“Does it taste good? I want to try.” I whined. Wayne lifted an eyebrow, but he cut a piece for me using his fork and held it out.

Smirking, I took a bite. Somehow, it tasted so much better with Wayne feeding me. Despite telling Gideon the good news about Wayne and I being together, part of me still couldn’t believe last night happened.

My fears hadn’t completely dissipated. I still had a chance of screwing this up. Wayne was right. I tended to bolt when things got too rough but I planned to show him I was sticking around this time around.

  “More?” Wayne asked.

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Wayne fed me more pieces. Having him feed me seemed a little erotic somehow.

“Greedy, Omega. You haven’t even finished your waffles,” he grumbled. I didn’t miss the tenderness in his voice.

“Want a taste of mine?” I asked, feeling devious.

I cut him a slice and held it out. Once Wayne ate it, I set my fork down and leaned in close to steal a kiss from him.

He kissed me back, passionately and roughly. I wanted more. Wayne set his container down and ran his fingers down my bare chest.

I shivered, also putting aside my breakfast to touch him.

I ran my fingers down his shoulder, his left arm. Wayne’s entire body felt like it had been hewn from rock. I could feel his muscles tense up.

He gripped my hair and thrust his tongue down my throat. Just like that, I forgot where we were. The room disappeared and the only thing that mattered was Wayne’s mouth on mine and his big body rubbing against my slender one.

Wayne pulled away, breathing harshly. He peeled off his shirt, stood up, and got rid of his pants and boxers in record time.

I moved my gaze to the package between his legs. Wayne’s cock hung long, thick and erect, its tip leaking pre-cum.

I wanted him to claim me all over again. I couldn’t form words, so I let out a moan. Wayne joined me again in bed.

He rolled on me on my side, lifted my leg, and pushed two fingers inside my ass. I moaned, already slick and ready for him.

  “Fuck me, Wayne,” I whispered.

Wayne left more kisses down the side of my neck. “Touch yourself.”

I couldn’t disobey that order. I was too hot and bothered, ready to come any moment but I held myself back.

Closing my fingers over my shaft, I began to stroke myself. Wayne breached me, sliding his cock in my ass without stopping once. I gasped, digging my fingers into the sheets.

  “Faster.” I urged.

Wayne drilled me, reducing us to animal moans and groans in moments. Sweat coated our bodies. Morning sun kissed our faces from the opened window.

I moved my hand up and down my prick. Wayne went deeper with every push, seemingly able to breach my intimate places, to touch my soul.

I could wake up to this every day and not get bored of it. I panted, gasped as Wayne found my prostate. He went for it over and over again. I arched my back, gasped at his last entry.

The pressure building inside me burst open. I cried out, coming all over my fingers. Wayne began knotting me again. He held me close to him, his arms warm and comforting.

“You’re mine, Denver,” he whispered against my ear.

I was so turned on from how possessive he sounded. I wiggled in his arms, groaning. Wayne unknotted me and filled me with his seed.

“I want my baby in you.”

Those words would’ve scared me shitless not long ago if they came from a stranger but this was Wayne. My Alpha.

After he pulled his softening prick out of my ass, I turned so I could look him eye-to-eye. I cupped his cheek and gave him a slow and gentle kiss on his mouth.

I told my best friend, my soul mate the truth. “I want to make a baby with you, too.”

Wayne looked startled but I could tell he was pleased and happy as I was.

“So, we’ll just go in there and be ourselves,” Denver was saying.

When the traffic light turned red, I snuck a glance at him. My Omega seemed nervous for some reason. Denver kept running his hand over his hair and he constantly twitched in his seat.

We had to drive back to our apartment twice because he kept forgetting stuff for the barbecue. I patted his thigh and he blinked at me.

The traffic light turned green again. I resumed our drive.

“Relax, baby. It’s just your family.” I must’ve said the wrong words because Denver let out a gasp.

“Just my family? Are you kidding me? You’ve been around them far too many times to count. You know how they are.” Denver let out another groan. “My cousins will be super annoying and they’ll keep asking questions.”

A week had passed since we finally got together. Seven wonderful days of being Denver’s boyfriend.

Sure, we still argued on occasion but that was normal with any couple. I had to admit I couldn’t keep my hands off him at home or work.

Hell, our manager at the car rental company nearly caught us having sex in the broom closet more than once. We didn’t do it during working hours, of course, just during our lunch breaks.

Denver was always happy to bone me, so that didn’t help at all. I knew when an Alpha had finally chosen his Omega, the pair would be horny at the start but the attraction between us hadn’t faded one bit.

Denver broke off from complaining about his cousins to say, “You’re thinking about sex, aren’t you? I can’t blame you. I’m super irresistible.”

That got me laughing. Denver always had that unexplainable ability to brighten my day. Not that I was feeling gloomy or anything like that. If I had to be honest with myself, I was also nervous about meeting his family.

Sure, I’ve been to more Bright family barbecues I could count but back then, I was only Denver’s best friend.

Would they treat me that same way now that I was more than just Denver’s friend?

God. What if Denver’s dads decided I was good enough to be Denver’s friend but not his significant other?

My palms started to sweat on the wheel. I didn’t talk much during the drive. Denver didn’t seem to notice and kept on complaining about his cousins, which was fine with me.

The sound of his voice calmed me. I was the Alpha in this situation. Everything was under control. So far.

  “We’re here,” I announced.

I parked my truck right behind Garth’s truck. It looked like the other couple arrived before us.

“Okay, we can do this,” he murmured.

“Hey, stop stressing out. Come here.”

I leaned over, tipped his chin with my fingers, and gave him a deep and rough kiss that left us both panting. I wanted more.

It would be easy to throw Denver in the backseat and I’d fuck away all the stress and worry he’d been feeling.

  Not here, I reminded myself.

I moved away from him, only to see his twin cousins Todd and Aaron making kissing faces at us. Denver must’ve spotted them because he left the car and started yelling at them.

I exited the truck, about to grab the drinks from the back only to bump right into Denver’s Pop. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. I had hoped to avoid Pop until later.

Cal Bright was only five-feet-five but right now, the Omega was darn imposing. Maybe it was because Pop wasn’t smiling. Denver’s Alpha dad was a six-foot-five giant but he was the quiet one in their family. Pop was the real leader and right now, he decided my fate.

Cal looked me up and down as if he was seeing me for the first time. He’d always been nice to me when Denver and I were growing up. I practically saw him as the dad I never had. I didn’t want that to change.

“I love your son very much,” I said those words from the bottom of my heart. “I’ve loved him for a long time so it’s only inevitable that we’re together.”

Pop took two, three steps towards me and broke into a smile so similar to Denver’s. He pulled me into a hug, which wasn’t easy given the differences in our height. All my initial fears seemed so silly suddenly.

“I know that, Wayne. All I wanted to ask is this—what took you so long?” Pop demanded.

Pop pulled away from the hug and placed his hands on his waist.

“Uh.” I didn’t know what else to say.

Did he know that I had a crush on his son all this time?
