by Daniel Clark

Forgetfulness does not mean poor memory. For example, when you get to the kitchen and can't remember what to do, it has to do with a lack of concentration. If this happens, you'll need to train to improve your focus.

Training 1: Arrange the letters of the animals' names in the correct order. Examples are Cat, Elephant, Horse, Deer, etc.

Training 2: Stand in front of the window and look out. Look carefully at the shapes and colors of the scene outside the window, and then repaint what you see in your mind.

Maintaining good attention is the basic condition of cognitive activities such as perception, memory, and thinking. In our learning process, attention is to open the door of our mind and is the only door. The bigger the door, the more we learn. Once the mind is distracted or unable to concentrate, the door is closed to all useful knowledge and information.

Good attention will improve our work and study efficiency. Attention disorder is characterized by an inability to direct mental activity toward a specific object or to focus all of one's attention on that object while failing to suppress attention to unrelated objects. The cause of this situation is more complex, and many of the more serious mental disorders can cause attention disorders. For Students, the main reason is the heavy burden of study, psychological pressure caused by high tension and anxiety, resulting in an inability to concentrate. In addition, lack of sleep, which means that the brain does not get adequate rest, can also lead to poor concentration.

Tips for Getting Concentration and Attention

So, when you're feeling stressed and distracted, here's what you can do to help:

  Develop Good Sleep Habits

Some students are forced to stay up late because of the heavy burden of study. Some students even stay up late reading by flashlight in the dormitory. By this result, they cannot get up on time in the morning and even if barely up their mind will be drowsy all day cannot get up the spirit to do things like they are intended to do. The student's main study task is to complete in the daytime, and if the daytime is listless, the efficiency is certainly low. So, if you are "night owl," I advise you to go to bed on time and get up on time, get enough energy, improve the efficiency of learning during the day.

  Learn to Destress

Students’ learning tasks are already heavy, and the expectations of teachers and parents add a burden to the students 'psychology. Some students attach great importance to examination results, which results in putting pressure on themselves, and they are bound to be overburdened. Therefore, we must learn to adopt self-decompression, that is not to take the good and bad results too seriously.

  Do some Relaxation Exercises

Sit comfortably in a chair or on a bed and send a message to all parts of the body. Start with the left foot, tighten and then relax the muscles of the foot, indicating that it is resting, and then order the ankle, calf, knee, thigh, all the way up to the torso to rest. After that, move from foot to torso, then relax from the left and right hands to torso. At this point, move from the trunk to the neck, head, face, and relax. This relaxation technique takes practice to master, and once you master it, you'll be relaxed and calm in just a few minutes.

Pleasant and Unpleasant Experiences in Memory

People have a tendency to remember pleasant experiences and forget unpleasant ones, as said by Floyd, a famous scientist.

So how do mood and atmosphere affect memory?

Remember as much as you can think about what happened to you as a child. Make a list of the things you remember and divide them into pleasant, unpleasant, and general categories.

Which one you think will be the most memorable?

According to the results of the study, about 50% of the memories were pleasant, about 20% unpleasant and about 30% ordinary. But, regardless of the relationship to memory, perhaps the study represents a more pleasant experience than a less pleasant one. If viewed from Floyd's point of view, this situation represents an unhappy experience that is repressed and sealed deep within the subconscious mind. However, physical pain seems to be more easily forgotten than mental pain. For example, because of the pain of childbirth, mothers often do not want to have another child after the first one, and the second or even third child is born anyway.

The relationship between emotion and memory is very close. Emotion is an important factor that affects intellectual activity. Emotion plays an important role in the effect of memory and even plays a decisive role in certain conditions. Sometimes people's emotions help them remember.

People's emotions can be roughly divided into two categories, and they are not the same when related to memory. One is a happy mood, which is also called a positive mood enhancer. It includes such emotional experiences such as hope, happiness, tranquility, liking, and happiness and optimism. This kind of emotion can activate various physiological functions of the human body, improve people's life activity, enhance people's physical strength and energy, drive people to be active, generate a strong thirst for knowledge, and optimize the working state of the brain and also Greatly improves the working efficiency and memory function of the brain.

The other is an unpleasant emotion called negative emasculation. It includes emotional experiences such as anger, anxiety, fear, depression, sadness, tension, and dissatisfaction. This kind of mood to the human body organs, nerves, muscles, and endocrine stimulation is very large and is not only harmful to health but also affects the memory function of the brain.

There is no doubt that we always enjoy the pleasant experience of the past, but rarely think of or mention unpleasant and embarrassing things. Let's say you're watching a soccer game and your favorite team is tied with a competitor, Grudge Match. As a result, in the final five minutes of the key moment, they seize the opportunity, a volley shot, and that results in a goal! As a result of that shot, your favorite team won the game. At this point, you will be ecstatic, and this scene is enough to make that moment unforgettable in your memory.

People learn knowledge and receive information in a certain space. Therefore, in the objective condition of memory, we cannot but talk about the environment. Other things being equal, the quality of the environment plays a certain role in memory efficiency. The environment is divided into the natural environment and social environment.

Quietness and aggressiveness are relative. We cannot live in isolation for the sake of learning and remembering. Most of the time, we have to live in a group and learn in a noisy environment. People can not only use the environment but also adapt to the environment. Sometimes, memorizing the content itself decides not to be quiet, such as listening to reports, watching movies, getting things done with others, cannot be done alone in a quiet place. At this point, we must have the ability to make quiet, learn to "anti-interference. ". This mainly refers to the enhancement of learning consciousness and adaptability to the environment.

It is generally believed that a quiet room is more conducive to learning and more suitable for reflection than a noisy room. Actually, it's not. In an experiment in the United States, first-time study and recognition tests were given in quiet and noisy rooms. It turns out that if you do it in the same room, the effect is the same, whether it's quiet or not. The social environment is an "artificial" environment; that is, people can create an environment conducive to memory.

In the time of memory, if we can achieve the harmony and unity of the silent natural environment and the Superior Social Environment, it is desirable to enhance memory. In addition, we cannot ignore the environment of some external factors on memory, such as music and fragrance.

Many enterprises, in order to improve work efficiency or reduce the sense of monotony and fatigue, always actively use a variety of background music. However, everyone's preferences for music are different, so it's best to avoid the mandatory uniform model in order to increase efficiency.

Chapter 4: Basic Memory Training Methods

In the last chapter, we have got a detailed explanation about memory and its importance. This chapter deals with imaginat
ion and Association that are principle building blocks of memory training methods.

Imagination and association go hand in hand. Full use of imagination and multi-association can help us faster and makes us easy to speed up memory. These examples tell us that using imagination to develop full association, can have a great stimulating effect on memory. When something needs to be remembered, we need to think harder, use our imagination, see what we can connect to it, and give it life and vitality, and a broader, more novel meaning.

It is very rare in science and creativity to rely solely on what is already in mind and to deduce new results from certain logical relationships. Because knowledge is limited, and imagination can generalize the whole world, and promote its progress, it can be said that imagination is the source of knowledge evolution. Similarly, when learning a subject, imagination is also considered an important means of learning new things. When these new things are just beginning to appear in the resulting material, imagination can help us to foresee their interconnections.

  Why Is Imagination so Important

Because in the initial stage of learning, imagination is to put forward the hypothesis to the existing knowledge and determine the specific learning method. When planning an experiment or study, it is often necessary to imagine an experimental situation to determine the specific program. We all know that without imagination, we cannot make a difference. We lose the ability of imagination in learning, and we lose the source of success.

A person's experience and qualifications are important, but it is not the only measure of ability and talent. Especially in learning, some people have 10 years of learning experience, but only has one year of experience to repeat it.

To repeat the same kind of work and study year after year is very skillful, but the terrible thing is that this kind of behavior has blocked the mind and stifled the imagination in such a way that person cannot make great achievements. So, it's perfectly reasonable to say that any creative activity, such as scientific discovery, technological invention, literary creation without imaginative participation will not work. We need to understand that scientists, inventors, and artists who make creative achievements are also men of great imagination.

If a person wants to live a happy life or study successfully, he must cultivate his rich imagination. Only with rich imagination, one can have a good plan for his future. Every successful person imagines his or her future in the beginning, and it is these ideas that keep him or her moving forward to achieve goals. A strong and active imagination is an indispensable attribute of great intelligence. So, it is evident that we cannot study new information without imagination.

Before you get into memory training, you need to be prepared that your memory will be based entirely on your mental model. Of course, the more you can take advantage of this psychological advantage, the easier it will be to remember.

The first thing you have to look for in your mind is an image of the first thing that makes you happy. It's easy to imagine things that make you happy. In the next step, we need to link it to our own life to remember it easily.

You might think that there is a predetermined logic to the things listed here, but you'd be wrong. You can take any example, and the digging of the connections between them requires a lot of thinking. But the emphasis on making it as special as possible doesn't seem excessive, and of course, you don't have to stop for 10 minutes to discover your illogical imagination. You should understand that the absurd imagination that comes into your head in the first place is the most applicable. When we put these things together in this way, with a few modifications, it becomes a complete story or a kind of mystery. It's the most nerve-racking thing we can do, and we'll never forget it.

Of course, one of the more striking features of this bold approach to memory is that it automatically works for you when you think of only one of them. You can use this kind of reasoning to automatically connect things that are before and after or far away from each other. If you are interested, you can do some exercises in your spare time. It's not that everything has to be memorized in this way, but in learning, we find those boring, but very helpful to our learning, and we try to open our minds to them. If we force ourselves to memorize some mathematical theorems in the same way, we may lose more than we gain.

However, it is good to master one more method after all, and believe that it can bring happiness to your study. Imagination does not come into being out of thin air; it comes into being and develops in social practice, and is based on practical experience and knowledge. At the same time, the content and standard of imagination should be restricted and influenced by social and historical conditions and living conditions.

In the course of our study, we can divide imagination into three kinds according to its aimlessness and self-consciousness. They are Unintentional imagination, recreative imagination, and creative imagination.

  (1) Unintentional Imagination

It usually occurs in a state of inattention or semi-sleep. The unconscious imagination is the simplest and most primitive imagination. In contrast, intentional imagination is a more advanced imagination, which is consciously carried out according to a certain purpose. These two kinds of imagination can often cross, promote, and transform each other under certain conditions when they play an important role in our learning activities.

  2. Reimagine

For example, when we read the poem "The sky is vast, and the wild, the wind, and grass are low to see cows and sheep,” we form a beautiful picture of the grassland in our mind. This is a result of reimagining. But these reimagined images of things are not created by themselves, but with their own creative elements. In order to reimagine effectively and correctly, the following points must be noted.

First of all, we should be good at correctly understanding the content of language and writing. Secondly, we should be good at fine and accurate observation of the relevant information. Thirdly we should be good at accumulating rich perceptual knowledge in our mind. This kind of imagination is necessary when we accept the knowledge and understand the teaching material.

  3. Create imagination

Creative imaginations are not based on the objective reality but are based on their own specific purposes that are independent in mind to create a new image of a thinking process. Its main characteristics are novelty and peculiarity, such as literary and artistic creation, scientific and technological invention, technological innovation, etc. Both creation imagination and reconstruction imagination are based on the perceptual knowledge of things, and reprocess and transform the images of things according to their own purposes. While both are creative, there is clearly more creative imagination in the latter.

Creative imagination is one of the essential factors of human creative activities, and its role in learning activities is also very important. Without imagination, there would be no artistic creation, invention, or technological progress. The effective creative imagination must have the following two conditions: First one is that one must reserve the rich appearance, and the second one is to be good at analysis and synthesis.

Do not think that imagination is a very abstract concept because imagination also has a specific method of operation. For example, remember the following 10 words and write them down in their original order.

Trains, rivers, kites, cannons, watermelons, yellow, dog, lightning street, Banyan, Toy.

We can imagine and explain the following in a single sentence.

I boarded a high-speed train which is through the river and then the river is flying like a big kite then I observed that kite is painted on a cannon and in the next minute cannon shot out from the mouth of watermelon and in the next second watermelon hits yellow dog body. By this Yellow Dog ran fast like lightning to a banyan tree and had bitten a toy under the Banyan tree.

Now close the Book and Mentally Review the scenario to check your memory.

How did it go? You must remember that this exercise of imagination is instant in many people.

  Y
ou might say 10 words can be easily remembered by Rote instead of creating a story. Yeah, that's exactly right. But if there are more of them, it's a different story. If you don't believe me, increase it to 20 or 30. Try again. We can use our imaginations as much as we want, as if we were writing a fantasy or a science fiction film, directing vivid and interesting scenes.

However, to increase your speed in associating things, you can follow the below methods. Here are a few ways.

  Dynamic Method

The so-called dynamic method is an imaginative method of making static things move. Dynamic things are more attractive than static things. People prefer movies than slides, children prefer electric toys than "old-fashioned" toys, and the use of neon signs in advertising is mainly due to this reason. To remember the word "tiger," imagine a laying tiger in deep sleep is far less effective than using a running tiger.
