Merely Alive

  Maya’s parents had been captured and put in a concentration camp. They were killed in a gas chamber.

  Germany lost the war, and Greg was finally free. He so desperately missed Rose and Maya, but most of all, he was glad they were together. Greg got married and had children. Each night, he wished Maya was lying next to him and that Rose was by his side. He never loved anyone better than those two. He never loved his children more than he loved Achena.

  Greg never got over the war. He had nightmares every night. He was never happy again, except for when he was dying. He knew then that he would once again be happy and join his most beloved family members.
