Pool of Lies: All Lies Have Consequences... Page 12

Due to her growing inability to tell the woman no, Kacey had talked Ava into going to a dive Mexican restaurant that was in her neighborhood. Ava had argued against the choice, telling Kacey that she didn’t do Mexican, thanks to the whole Tito’s incident; but she gave up the fight when she saw how excited Kacey was to take her to the restaurant. As they walked, Kacey told Ava about the margaritas that the restaurant served and how they were the best in the city, and how phenomenal their chimichangas were. Ava couldn’t help but to find her adorable, which was both weird and funny, considering how irritating she could be.

They reached the restaurant and as soon as they walked in an older woman walked over to Kacey. She gave her a big kiss on the cheek then started talking to her in Spanish. Kacey, shocking the hell out of Ava, began to have a conversation with the woman in Spanish. After she chit-chatted with her, the two of them headed to a booth that was in the back of the restaurant. They sat down on the same side and Ava remarked, “This is pretty cozy. A booth in the back.”

Kacey chuckled. “I come here often, and Mrs. Chavez knows I like to eat in quiet so she keeps it open for me.” She grinned at Ava. “What can I say, I’m a fan of Mexican food, and the stuff that Mrs. Chavez serves here is amazing.”

Ava, stunned by this new side of Kacey, chuckled and shook her head. “That’s two more things I didn’t know about you that I’ve learned.” Ava picked up her menu. “I’m surprised you know how to speak Spanish.”

Kacey shrugged. “I picked it up.” The vague answer caused Ava to shoot an irritated look her ways, and Kacey chuckled. “Two more things? What did you already know about me?”

“You’re irritating,” Ava pointed out, without missing a beat.

Kacey situated herself so that she was sitting in the corner of the booth, where the back of the bench seat met the wall. She raised an eyebrow at Ava. “Irritating?” Before she could continue, Mrs. Chavez started walking over to their table carrying a tray that had two large margaritas and couple glasses of water on it. She said something to Kacey, and Kacey responded. Ava had no idea what the two of them were talking about - her Spanish wasn’t the best - but the conversation between them seemed more familial than just friendly. The woman left their table, and Ava took a long drink from her margarita. She could feel the alcohol burn its way down her esophagus, and she began to cough. Ava realized the beverage wasn’t the light drink that she had been expecting. Instead, it was nothing but pure tequila with a little flavor. Kacey reached over and rubbed her back. “You might want to go slow, Sunshine. These things ain’t for the faint of heart.”

Ava took a sip from the glass of water that was in front of her. She cleared her throat as she set it down, then coughed out, “You think?”

Kacey let out a small, quiet laugh, then proceeded to take a long gulp from her own margarita. Ava felt her eyebrows go up to her hairline. As Kacey placed her glass down on the table she glanced at Ava and smiled. “I ain’t faint of heart.”

Ava picked up her margarita and took the smallest of sips from it. The amount of alcohol that was in the drink still surprised her, but she figured that she would get used to it. She did make a mental note to stop drinking once she started to feel a buzz, though. Being around Kacey with lowered inhibitions wasn’t a smart idea for a number of reasons.

If Ava found Kacey’s ability to drink a beverage that was pure tequila surprising, then the woman’s behavior during dinner was even more of a shock to her system. The fact that she was having a great time was also astounding. During their meal, Ava and Kacey had maintained a playful banter that typically revolved around Kacey saying something annoying and Ava telling her to go fuck herself, which led to a sexual innuendo from the dark haired woman. Despite the exasperating remarks, Ava was genuinely having a good time, and the permanent smile on her face was more than enough evidence to prove it. The smile also could have been caused by the amount of alcohol that Ava had consumed, but she wasn’t drunk. She just liked being around Kacey. Ava couldn’t remember the last time she had just enjoyed the company that she was with. Being with Kacey made her happy.

Even though Ava wasn’t completely drunk from the two margaritas that she had drank, her inhibitions were greatly lowered. She lifted her hand and began to lightly trace the outside of Kacey’s ear with the tip of her finger. “Kacey….Kacey…Kacey….”

“Yes, Sunshine?” Kacey said with a grin as she looked at Ava out the corner of her eye.

Ava pouted and ran her finger down and across Kacey’s jaw. “I hate that name, and yet you call me it every fucking chance you get.”

Kacey took hold of her travelling finger then kissed the tip of it. She sighed. “I know I do. And I’m not going to stop.” Ava scowled and Kacey let out a small chuckle. “You want to know why I call you that?”

Ava leaned in closer then placed her chin on Kacey’s shoulder then smiled. “Kacey the Enigma is going to share with me. I’m all ears, please do tell.” She gave Kacey’s shoulder a quick bite before adding, “And it better not be something that’ll piss me off, either.”

Kacey chuckled, then she turned her head to give Ava a quick kiss. She smiled at her. “I do like to piss you off.” Ava scowled. “It’s your fault. You’re sexy when you’re mad.” Ava pinched her arm and Kacey sucked in air through her teeth then said, “Ouch. Careful Sunshine, I bruise easy.”

Ava rolled her eyes and sat up. “I highly doubt that.” She reached for her margarita glass but Kacey moved it. She glared at her. “What the hell?”

Kacey’s face remained neutral. “I think you’ve had enough.”

Ava blew out an exasperated breath. “I’ve told you this before, Kacey, I’m a big girl. I think I know when I’ve had enough.” She grinned as an idea came to her. Ava moved to straddle Kacey’s lap. The woman’s eyebrow went up as Ava sat on her thighs. Grinning, Ava remarked, “Plus, if I’m drunk you can take all sorts of advantage of me.”

A severe look came to Kacey’s face and her eyes hardened. “I will never do that to you, Ava. No matter what you may think of me, taking advantage of you while you’re drunk is something that never happen.” The sudden tension was thick between them, and Ava didn’t know what to say to Kacey’s adamant declaration. She also didn’t know what to think. The fierce protection and anger that shone in Kacey’s eyes added another layer to Ava’s ever changing perception of the woman. Kacey sighed and her eyes softened. She reached out and cupped Ava’s cheek. “You are something I thought I would never have.”

The honesty and vulnerability that radiated from Kacey’s brown eyes caused Ava to stop breathing for a moment. She drew in a slow breath as she tried to shake the feelings that Kacey provoked in her. The woman was staring into her soul, and it was comforting but at the same time it was also disconcerting, because Kacey still didn’t know her. Ava wanted to change that. She wanted to blame the alcohol that swam in her system for clouding her judgment, but it wasn’t that. Kacey was letting her in, slowly but surely, and now she had to let Kacey in.

Ava leaned in and placed a kiss on her lips. It lingered for a moment, then she broke it and moved her head so that her lips were by Kacey’s ear. She drew in a shaky breath, then whispered, “She’s my wife.”

Ava closed her eyes for a second, then sat up to see what Kacey thought about her revelation. The eyebrow over her left eye was arched and Kacey looked as surprised as she could be, which wasn’t much. Kacey started to rub her hands up and down the tops of Ava’s thighs as she nodded her head. “I have to admit, Sunshine, I wasn’t expecting that.” She gave a small chuckle. “I was thinking girlfriend, or live-in lover, but wife? That’s some serious shit.”

Ava sighed then ran her hand through her hair. “Tell me about it.”

She didn’t want to have this conversation while she sat on Kacey’s lap, and she went to move off of it, but Kacey held onto her waist. Ava looked at her and when their eyes met she could tell that Kacey was going to say something that she wasn
’t going to like. She looked away and gazed down at the red vinyl that covered booth seat. Kacey placed a finger under her chin and lifted her head so that they were looking into each other’s eyes again. “How’s it feel to break your marriage vows?”

The question not only appalled Ava but it shook her to the core. The fact that Kacey had the audacity to ask her that was astonishing. Before Ava could think through her actions, her hand was in motion and the palm of it met Kacey’s left cheek. There was enough force behind the slap that it made Ava’s hand sting, and Kacey’s head turned to the right. Ava glowered at her and growled, “How dare you.” She got off Kacey’s lap and climbed out of the booth. “What gives you the right to ask me that?” She turned to glare at Kacey, and the woman wasn’t fazed at all by the fact that she had slapped her. Ava narrowed her eyes and spat, “How the fuck do you think it feels?”

Kacey’s face remained passive, and it infuriated Ava. The woman was clearly enjoying the suffering that she was going through, and Ava had had enough of it. She wasn’t going to be her entertainment any longer. She began to storm out of the restaurant, and Kacey yelled for her to come back, but Ava ignored her. Once she was out of the restaurant, Ava took long, quick strides to put a great deal of space between her and Kacey, not wanting the woman to catch up with her. Ava didn’t want to talk to her, nor did she want to see her.

Seething with anger, Ava ignored those that loitered on the street, and she didn’t pay attention to where she was going. All she could focus on was the fact that Kacey was playing with her emotionally and she was falling for her despite it. Ava scoffed. She was stupid. She felt her shoulder bump into someone and she tried to walk around them while mumbling out an apology. However, the man that she had run into had other ideas, and he took hold of her arm. “Hold on a second Blondie, I think you owe me a proper apology.”

Ava didn’t have time to deal with this. She was pissed, annoyed, and beyond done with dealing with other people’s bullshit. If the man didn’t let go of her, she was either going to punch him in the face, or make it so that he would never have children. Ava was about to threaten him when she heard Kacey shout from behind the man, “Hey asshole, let her go!”

The man snorted and shook his head as he kept his eyes on Ava. “Go home, princess. This is between Blondie and me. Trust me, you don’t want to get involved.”

Ava looked around the man and saw that Kacey was charging towards them. Her eyes were lethal, and her lip was curled into a cruel snarl. Everything that happened afterward was quick. Kacey delivered a swift but effective punch to the side of the man’s head. He let go of Ava, and she moved out of the way as he stumbled to the edge of the sidewalk.

The man held the side of his head with one hand while the other one reached behind him as he shouted, “You fuckin-“ He looked up and saw that Kacey was standing in front of him with a look of sheer rage on her face. The man’s face went pale and he held up both of his hands. “Shit Kacey I-I-I didn’t know she-“

Kacey punched the man in the face, then she turned to Ava. “Go to my fucking apartment.” Ava didn’t move. Her eyes jumped to the man that was holding his face then back to Kacey. “Go!” The rage and murderous fire that were emblazoned in her eyes scared Ava. She wasn’t scared for herself but for the man that had harassed her. Ava believed that if she did walk away, the man would not live to see the end of the day.

  “Kacey he-”

  “Fucking go, Ava!” Kacey shouted.

Ava glanced at the man, who seemed to be hoping for a miracle, and realized that she couldn’t walk away. She was a doctor, and she was supposed to save lives, no matter the capacity. Ava moved to stand in front of Kacey and she spoke calmly. “No, Kacey. I’m not leaving without you.”

Ava looked around. There were people watching them, but no one dared to interfere. She couldn’t blame them. The rage that was rolling off of Kacey would cause anyone to think twice. The muscles of Kacey’s jaw tightened, and she stared into Ava’s eyes, before glancing behind her. Ava hoped that she was getting through to her, but she was quickly proved wrong when Kacey walked past her and punched the man again. This time, her fist connected with the underside of his jaw.

Ava heard the sick crunch the same time she saw blood flying from his mouth. She knew the man’s jaw was broken. Kacey punched him again, this time in the gut, which made him double over before he dropped to his knees and cried out in pain. Kacey moved fast, grabbing a fistful of his hair, and murmured something in his ear before she slammed his face into her knee. She let go of his hair and his body fell to the ground.

Ava wouldn’t have been able to stop Kacey had she wanted to. Her attack on the man had been awful and horrifying, and Ava had been at loss on how to stop her. Kacey stalked over to her, and without saying a single word, she grabbed Ava’s wrist and pulled her away from the scene. Ava didn’t say anything as they walked back to Kacey’s apartment, and Kacey remained eerily quiet.

Their silence continued as they walked into the building that housed Kacey’s apartment. It wasn’t until they were riding the elevator did Ava break their silence. “What did you say to him?”

A severe frown marred Kacey’s face, and it didn’t disappear as she glanced at Ava. There was a barrage of emotions that played out in her eyes, but none of them answered the question that Ava had asked. Kacey fixed her gaze on the metal doors of the elevator and Ava held her tongue as a heavy silence occupied the space around them. The elevator reached the floor that Kacey lived on, and they got off of it and walked to her apartment. When they were inside and Kacey had locked the door, she announced, “I’m going to take a shower.”

Ava reached out and captured her arm. “Kacey, wait. What the fuck happened back there?”

Kacey jerked her arm away and shouted, “What happened back there was you not fucking listening to me, Ava!” She stepped closer towards her. “I told you this was a dangerous neighborhood, and you still ran out of the fucking restaurant like a fucking-”

“What the hell was I supposed to do? You’re fucking toying with me, Kacey, and I wasn’t going to just sit there and take it like some punching bag.” Ava argued, her voice rising as Kacey pinned her down with a fiery gaze. “This entire time, all you have been doing is fucking with me and I’m fucking over it.”

“I haven’t done a damn thing to you, Ava,” Kacey countered. She closed the small gap that was between her and Ava and glowered at her. “You are free to leave whenever the fuck you feel like it. If you don’t like the way I treat you, then go. If you don’t like the questions I ask, then leave.” Kacey’s fixed gaze bore into Ava as she continued, “If you don’t like the way I handle the assholes who manhandle you on the street, then fucking go.” Her tone was hard as she finished. “You are not my fucking hostage.”

Ava stared into the dark eyes that were hard as granite, a flurry of overwhelming emotions coursing through her. She was more than just pissed at Kacey. She was scared about what she had seen, worried about what she had involved herself in, and was concerned that it was too late for her to leave the situation with Kacey. She drew in a shallow breath. Despite her concern and anger, Ava’s attraction, and feelings towards Kacey never wavered. She didn’t want to leave.

Ava took in Kacey’s stern face and she was able to see beyond the anger that was directed at her. There were a multitude of emotions; care, anger, worry, and frustration, dancing in Kacey’s eyes and written on her face. It caused Ava to give into the feelings that she felt for the woman. She reached for her, roughly combing her fingers through Kacey’s hair, gripping the thick locks tightly in her fingers to bring her head forward. Their lips met for an angry, passionate kiss, and Kacey didn’t hesitate to return it. Her hands grabbed Ava’s ass, and she used it to pull her firmly against her.

Ava moaned into the kiss when Kacey nipped at her bottom lip. Her hands fumbled to pull off the shirt that the woman was wearing, but Kacey was already focused on removing Ava’s pants. Ava let her take the lead because she
wanted to feel Kacey’s bare skin against her. She pulled her lips away from Kacey’s, and began a trail of kisses and bites that went down the side of her neck and across her shoulder.

Kacey moaned as she pushed down Ava’s pants and panties then she kissed her again before pulling away. Ava watched as Kacey took off her shirt. Her arousal was as intoxicating as any drug, and her body was eager to give into the pleasure that she was anxious for. Kacey took hold of Ava’s face and pulled her head forward, crashing their lips together for another frantic kiss. Ava held onto her waist, then slid her hands up and down Kacey’s naked back, enjoying the soft skin under her palms.

They continued to kiss as Kacey guided them towards the bathroom and they rid each other of their remaining clothes. Once they were free of clothing, Ava and Kacey stumbled into the all glass enclosure that made up the shower. Kacey pushed Ava onto the back wall of the shower, then unceremoniously entered two of her fingers into her. As her fingers moved against Ava’s slick muscles, Kacey whispered hotly against her ear, “You are mine. I protect what is mine however I see fit.” She drove her fingers deeper inside Ava and she let out a loud moan. “Do you understand?”

Ava squeezed her eyes shut as the sudden onslaught of pleasure coursed through her, taking over her entire being. She clung to Kacey’s naked body, hooking a leg around her thigh in a desperate attempt to get more of the woman inside of her, and to feel her everywhere, all at once. Kacey’s unrelenting fingers continued to bring Ava closer to the inevitable. “Do you understand Ava?” Kacey demanded again. This time she used her fingers to add emphasis to her words.

Ava gasped and dug her nails deep into Kacey’s back as she moaned, “Yes.”

Kacey’s thumb began to massage her hypersensitive clit and Ava’s legs started to tremble as more pleasure was added to the tight ball of tension that was building deep inside of her. “Who do you belong to, Ava?” Kacey asked between pants.
