The Stone Sisters: Lyssa (The Stones Sisters Book 1)

Lyssa leaned forward and said softly, “We are. Say what you want, do what you want. I could care less. Kyle dates whom he wants and right now, he wants me. Don’t act like something is yours if it isn’t.”
Sputtering, Tori pulled back to her hand and let it fly. What the bitch hadn’t counted on was Lyssa’s amazing reflexes. She grabbed the girl’s hand before it could connect with her face. She held on tightly and Lexx could see Tori’s eyes go wide in pain.
“Do you know I spend three to four hours a day practicing martial arts? I like pain; I can handle lots of pain. If you’d like to experience pain too, then try that again.”
She released Tori’s hand and she stumbled back, rubbing her extremely red wrist. Lyssa put her hand on her hip and icily smiled. Tori’s eyes were wide and nervous. There was nothing quite like Lyssa mad and Lexa laughed behind her sister.
Tori backed away and then turned, walking down the hallway in a huff. Well, Lexa thought, that was future trouble. It would be indirect, but Tori wasn’t going to give up. Turning her gaze to Lyssa, Lexx realized her sister was well aware; she just didn’t care.
“Um, Tori is really popular. She could really ruin your rep Lyssa,” Missy said softly.
When Lyssa turned to Melissa, her gaze was warm and pleasant. Lyss was always good about Lexa’s friends. It was one of her many good points.
“Hey, don’t worry about it, Missy. Thanks for the warning, but I don’t care how popular she is. She can say what she wants.”
“Yeah but… what if Kyle believes it?”
Lyssa frowned, “I’ll warn him I’ve made a powerful enemy. If he believes the rumors after that without asking me about them, then he never really liked me.”
Melissa looked up at her and said, “Wow. Lexa can I have your sister?”
Laughing, Lyssa left and Lexa continued to her next class with Anna. When she saw Anna, it was apparent by the gaze she gave Lexa she had heard. Great, gossip was spreading about them. Lyssa wouldn’t care, but Lexa hated girls like this. She’d have to take matters into her own hands. However, she’d also have to be much more subtle than Lyssa. Lyssa put it right out there in such a way that this Tori girl would come at her sideways. She’d be too afraid Lyssa would kick her ass, so she’d never approach her alone either. What she didn’t know is that Lyssa rarely attacked humans.
“Tori’s going to be a problem,” Anna whispered.
“How so?”
“She’s got a network of friends and a lot of girls are too afraid of her not to help.”
Lexa frowned, “Did she ever go out with Kyle?”
Quietly, so that the teacher would ignore them, Anna said, “I think they went out on a couple of dates. But, that was it. Kyle’s smart, he knows Tori’s a bitch. But, she’s an attractive bitch so guys go out with her. And dumb guys date her for a while.”
Lexa put her hand over her mouth to keep the laughter from bubbling out. As she took notes, she plotted what she could do to keep Tori in line. Human girls had all sorts of tricks up their sleeves. Lexa had her own brand of revenge she could pull at any time.
At lunch, Lyssa came to sit down next to her. Lexa opened her mouth but before she could speak Lyssa said coolly, “Kyle went out three times with Tori. He broke it off with her because she was self-centered and shallow. I informed him that we had a little run in and he said he’d ask me if he heard anything strange about me. Problem solved.”
Anna actually laughed, “You’re proactive huh?”
Melissa looked at her as if she had three heads. Lyssa crossed her legs and smoothed the red skirt of her dress over her legs as she pulled out the Japanese style bento that Lexa had experimented with that morning. Lexx always wished she had the same level of confidence Lyssa did. Though, deep down, Lexa wondered if that confidence was just a little false.
At that moment, Kyle sat down next to Lyssa and gave her a soda. He slung an arm along the back of her chair and started eating pizza. After a few minutes, he looked at Lyssa and Lexa’s meals and a brow shot up.
“You make those lunches Lexa?”
Lyssa shot Lexa a smile as she answered, “My sister always makes the best and most interesting lunches.”
“I should get you to make my lunch too.”
Lyss frowned at that, a little bit of jealousy having reared its ugly head. Trouble was Lyssa was not much of a cook so she couldn’t volunteer. Lexa hid a smile and looked at Lyssa.
“I could, but seriously it would be weird making a lunch for my sister’s boyfriend. You are her boyfriend, right?”
“On a trial basis.”
Melissa rolled her eyes, “Are you serious? Lyssa you have got to say yes to him.”
Anna just quietly ate her salad she brought from home. Everything about her screamed her not wanting to be part of that conversation. Lexa on the other hand giggled.
“Yeah, sis, when are you going to say yes?”
Lyssa gaze bore a hole through Lexa. Kyle leaned over and said softly in Lyssa’s ear softly, “Yeah, when you going to say yes?”
She turned a shy gaze up to him and said, “A few more dates please?”
Kyle laughed. As Lexa studied him, she thought he totally got Lyssa. The way he leaned to her side and looked down at her. Lexa knew he understood that Lyssa was afraid. His gaze was patient. She turned beet red as she stared up at Kyle, which just made him grin.
“Only because you’ve never dated a guy before and you’re nervous.”
Lexa watched in fascination as Lyssa lit up and leaned close to him. She offered him one of the octopus shaped sausages Lexa had made and he took it off her chopsticks. Their gazes locked and Lexa turned away, feeling her cheeks heat. She found Missy was staring intently at the couple. When her eyes met Lexa’s they screamed “details!” Great, her friend really did want to live vicariously through her sister. At least Anna was ignoring the whole thing.
Glancing back at her sister and Kyle, she discovered his hand was gently playing with Lyssa’s ear. Her sister was blushing so brightly she thought her head would pop off. Kyle, on the other hand, looked like the cat that ate the canary. He really was enjoying teasing her sister. Giggling, Lexa looked down to her meal. Suddenly, Lyssa jumped up.
“Um, I forgot something in the library so, I’ll be going first. See you at the car Lexa.”
She trotted off quickly. Kyle watched her go for a moment. Well, more like he watched Lyssa’s ass go for a moment and then stood up. Lexa turned her gray-blue gaze up to him.
With a smug grin he said, “I, uh, left something in the library too.”
Bluntly, Missy said, “They’re going to make out.”
“Ew! I don’t want to hear that! She’s my sister! Besides, I know she hasn’t even let him kiss her yet.”
“She hasn’t?” Anna asked softly, seeming genuinely surprised.
“No. He’s her first boyfriend and Lyssa isn’t going to let him easily have his way with her.”
“I’d let him,” Missy sighed. Anna and Lexa exchanged looks and giggled.
Rolling her eyes, Missy continued, “Anyway. What are you doing this Saturday?”
“Well, Lyssa has plans with…”
“I mean just you.”
Lexa lit up a little, “Me?”
“Yeah, silly. Anna and I are going to the mall and Benji is going to drive us.”
“Ben,” Anna said softly, blushing slightly, “He hates being called Benji and you know it.”
Rolling her eyes, “Ben said he’d drive us and I was wondering if we could do something just us three.”
Lexa frowned. Lyssa never had any friends and she had hoped this time her sister would have, not just a boyfriend, but actual friends as well to melt her cold exterior.
“Listen, we love Lyssa, but we wanted to get to know you a bit more without her.”
“I’ll have to check with my parents, but if they say ok then it’s a go.”
Melissa bounced in her seat excitedly. Anna looked… well not angry, but no
t happy either. Damn, did she really think Lexa was going to take her friend from her? She feared the idea of Missy ever asking her to go just the two of them.
Lexa smiled, “I’m sure they’ll say yes.”
As they drove home together, Lyssa frowned when Lexa finished asking, “I don’t know this Ben guy.”
“Oh come on, Lyss, he’s Missy’s brother! And I’ll be with the two of them. You like them, right?”
Sighing softly, she pulled into their driveway and parked in front of their house. Folding her arms, she looked at Lexx, “Usually we get to know people more before we go off with them.”
“You went off with Kyle. Plus, you let me hang out at Missy’s before. Don’t you think a taxi is more dangerous?”
Lyssa blushed deeply the moment Lexa mentioned Kyle. It really was amusing to watch her reactions to that boy. But, this was not the time to think about that. If Lexa wanted to go, she’d have to get Lyssa’s permission.
“I’m stronger than you, Lexa, I could have taken Kyle out if need be. And it was only you and the girls, I looked ahead, knew the cabbie was safe and I picked you up that night.”
Bursting out laughing, Lexa shook her head and then deliberately ignored the comment about Lyss looking ahead and picking her up at Missy’s, “Yeah, cause you so would. You are so smitten with him, if he suddenly turned out to be a Hunter you’d try to convince him that you two were destined.”
Rolling her eyes, Lyssa opened the door to get out, “Don’t be ridiculous. No matter how much I may or may not like him, if he ended up being a Hunter I would kill him. I’d have to. I swore I would keep you safe, Lexa, and I will.”
“You need to think about yourself sometimes,” Lexa said with a frown as she slammed the door close.
“Hey! Watch my car!”
It was Lexa’s turn to roll her eyes and she headed for the house, “I’m going, Lyssa. They’re only human and won’t hurt me!”
“Lexa!”
“No. I want to hang around with my friends. I’m going, so please don’t try to stop me.”
Shutting the front door behind her, Lyssa sighed, “Fine. However, please be careful. Don’t drink anything you’ve not had eyes on the whole time. Who knows what this brother is like; he might put something in your drink.”
“Shit, you’re so pessimistic!”
As she made her way upstairs, Lyssa called out, “Language!”
Chapter 9
It was boring as hell in the convenience store on Saturday. It was dead, no one had come in and if Jake had been in as he was supposed to, Kyle would be off with Lyssa right at that moment. Whatever the family emergency was, it had better be good. Of course, he hoped no one was hurt or anything.
He needed that second date. It was great his status had been raised from friend to “trial” boyfriend. However, the more he thought about it, the more he realized he was still in the friend-zone. This whole thing with Tori wasn’t helping either. He had dated her three times; one of those times had solely been to let her know that they were not together and that they wouldn’t be dating in the future. Tori was such a bitch.
Lyssa had told him very little about the encounter she had with Tori. She had said she didn’t care what people thought of her, she only asked that he check with her if he heard any strange rumors. She’d been a bit breezy about it and trying to seem as if it didn’t bother her. Maybe it didn’t bother her what other people said, but her eyes told him she cared what he thought. As if he would believe any rumor about Lyssa. Or Lexa for that matter. No one in this school knew them before they moved here.
The bell rang indicating the door opening and he looked up to see Lyssa looking at him. She was sexily clad in some dark skinny jeans and a gray tee shirt. It brought out her eyes. Moreover, it hugged her amazing figure. At that moment, it was a tossup as to which emphasis he liked more. It didn’t matter because she was stalking him. Score.
“Come to visit me?”
She laughed and looked away. But it was too late; he could see the blush on her cheeks. She started wandering the aisles. Softly her voice carried to him, “I’m looking for good junk food. Lexa and her friends are out for the day and I am going to watch old movies.”
“What about your parents?”
“My parents love to go out whenever they can; I’m alone until someone returns.”
Son of a… they could be alone, making out on her couch, right now! Jake better make it up to him later. His deep brown eyes followed her around the aisles. She kept shooting him glances. Ice cream, chips, cupcakes and soda. He wondered if she was going to eat all of it. If she could, he had no idea where it went. He did like that she ate real food though. All the other girls he had dated barely touch food. He found it unnatural. They may have eaten normal when they weren’t with him, but he felt like they were hiding who they were. Lyssa just went for it. Whatever she wanted, she ate.
Tossing the food on the counter, she leaned forward and smiled up at him cutely, “It seems pretty dead in here.”
“It is. Can you stay for a little bit?”
She lit up. Yep, definitely stalking him. That was just awesome. He grinned down at her and let his eyes wander a bit. Wondering if she realized how much that shirt revealed, he leaned on the counter and smiled at her.
“I heard a rumor.”
She laughed and rolled her eyes, “Lay it on me.”
“Apparently, you got kicked out of your last school because you had an orgy with the football team. And your shenanigans were so bad you had to have surgery to repair the damage to your lady parts.”
She studied him a moment, probably checking to see if he believed it. She must have liked what she saw because she giggled. Her giggles where rare and only seemed to occur when she was dealing with him. Or, at least that is what he told himself.
“Oh, I’m a total whore. Well, you already know that since I let you have your way with me on our first date for fifty bucks.”
“I wish. Well, not about the money part.”
She blinked up at him surprised and then laughed, “Yeah you have a long way before that happens, buddy.”
Kyle’s grin heated up a notch, “But it will happen is your implication and I like that.”
She rolled her eyes and brushed strands of her honey gold hair out of her face. Softly, he took some of those strands into his fingers and played with the silken locks. He loved her hair.
“Don’t ever cut it.”
“Um, I hate to tell you this but I cut it every six weeks,” she said sarcastically.
“You know what I mean! Shit, your hair…”
“Hey! Language!”
He blinked, “Language?”
She blushed and looked aside, “I hate swearing. It’s so… crass.”
“Crass?” He laughed at her choice of word. He also laughed because he was certain that a few times when Lyssa wasn’t around, he heard Lexa swearing like a normal teenage girl.
But, if he had wanted a normal teenage girl, he could have had one. There were plenty of them in the school. Lyssa was extraordinary. Utterly beautiful. Intensely sexy. And full of surprises. He didn’t want a normal girl; he wanted Lyssa and all her weird quirks.
“For you, I’ll curb my language.”
She beamed up at him beautifully, “Thank you.”
Damn, his heart stuttered. What was it with this weird girl? When he had asked her what she wanted to do about Tori, she had replied that she wanted to do nothing about her. Kyle just didn’t understand her. He wasn’t a girl, but he was pretty sure most girls would want to do something to stop the harassment that was starting. As long as he didn’t believe it, that seemed to be all Lyssa needed.
“I… should ring you up. But if I do, you’ll be heading out.”
“Yeah, I have a date with 2001.”
Kyle brown gaze widened. That was her choice in movie. Damn, this girl was great.
“Then I guess I can’t keep you from a classic.”
He rung her up and afte
r the transaction, he held onto her bag.
“Hey, give it!” She leaned forward and that was his chance. He ducked down and kissed her softly between the eyes. When he pulled back, she was blushing, had a dreamy smile on her face and her eyes were closed. He was so getting off this whole trial nonsense.
As she walked out, he leaned over the counter to watch her ass wiggle. Lyssa had the best walk. Her hips swayed so sexily and his gaze was drawn to it. Closing his eyes, he wondered what her lips would taste like. Next date, he had to find out. More than that though, he started to imagine how she’d look if he touched her places other than her waist.
