KWAME ALEXANDER is a poet, educator, and New York Times best-selling author of twenty-five books, including Booked, The Playbook, Solo, and The Crossover, which received the 2015 John Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, the Coretta Scott King Author Honor Book award, the NCTE Charlotte Huck Honor, and the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award. He was also selected as the first recipient of the Pat Conroy Legacy Award, which recognizes writers who have achieved a lasting impact on their literary community.
A regular speaker at schools and conferences, Kwame believes that poetry and literature can change the world. Through his writing workshops he has inspired and empowered young people and created more than three thousand student-authors in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and West Africa. He lives in Virginia.
