It was a long shot, but it sure would simplify things to just come right out and tell them the truth. Ellen wouldn’t have to go poking her nose in Ree’s business to find out what she was hiding. Mila could work side by side with Louis Kirk to make the formula right under the City Council’s nose.
Her heart skipped a beat when she thought about telling them. She just had to figure out how without sending them back in time.
She stared into Ned’s eyes while they kissed and dove down into another chasm of bliss. They wouldn’t ascend again until the time came to face the outside world and all its complexity.
She had to tell Ned too. He’d spent his life hiding the truth from mortals. He didn’t want her to tell them, but she refused to keep a secret from him, either.
All those things could wait for now. Right now, she sank into the easy contentment of his presence. She rocked her body against him. Nothing made her happier than giving herself over to the buzzing passion crackling through her.
Every now and then, she hesitated to lower the defenses she erected against the world for so long. She only had to kiss him and touch him and look into those eyes, and her old armor crumbled to nothing. She lay bare and vulnerable before him, but it only made her happy to do it. She was never happier than when she unleashed her wild sensitivity to him, and he accepted her, no matter what.
She dwelt in that cosmic perfection of his love where nothing could ever go wrong. It carried her out to sea and up to the starry sky where life kept turning in an endless wheel of life feeding life. That’s where she would always live in the pulse of one living wave after another.
From here she could look down on the Earth. She saw herself and Ned and all their people shining all over the world in pinpricks of light. She saw her friends the same way.
Could they become part of the Angui too? Could they come to live with her here, in this eternal world?
She would have to explore the territory ahead with delicate care to find out.
