I heard a sob and opened my one functioning eyelid. In the gloom I saw her, sitting on the floor opposite me. She was still naked. It was a thing the elders liked to do: strip us bare, take away any material that shielded us, expose us. They wanted to remind me that, in this basement, on this dirty cold floor, naked, with vermin scurrying around, I was equal to Eddie. I was nothing.

Her legs were drawn to her chest, her arms clasped around them. I could see her ass, her pussy, and she didn’t seem to care. Her body was filthy. I would have washed her, I would have cared for her, and I wondered why she was here.

“You continued to defy?” I asked.

She looked up at me. She looked primitive. Her hair was a tangled mess, dirt was smudged over her face, her hands were filthy, her fingers clearly broken. She growled, like an animal. I crawled toward her, as far as the chain would allow me.

She bared her teeth and I watched every muscle on her body tense. If she could, she would have pounced, she would have torn me limb from limb. She was like a caged animal; she’d regressed beyond the point humans walked on two legs. They’d broken her.

I scuttled back to a safe distance. “Eddie,” I said, gently. She didn’t acknowledge her name.

“Edwina,” I repeated. At that, her growl grew louder. I felt the tremors hit my chest and the sound reverberate through me.

“He’ll come, Eddie. I guarantee he’ll come, one day.” Her eyes were wild, flicking from side to side.

“Mich will come for you, Eddie, I promise,” I lied. I had no idea if he would or wouldn’t.

The sound of his name seemed to calm her, her lips softened to cover her teeth, her shoulders relaxed a little.

  “Mich will come, Eddie.”

Whether she’d be alive when he did, I had no idea. All I knew was the creature sitting before me was a far cry from the one I’d taken from his house. I had no idea what they’d done to her, I could only guess at the constant rape and abuse. I could only guess at the mindfuck they’d put her through, the drugs they would have pumped into her system.

Maybe she’d be better off dead.
