"Looks like the only animal left in the room is you, Phaela." I knew I was depleted and could not take on a fight with her right now.
Phaela moved in my direction. "You will pay for what you have done, Kasha. No one you love will be safe, not even in the afterlife."
Nate pulled himself up enough to crawl the rest of the way over to my feet. Kaden and Graven both stepped in to intervene. I held my hands up. Nate bowed before me and kissed my feet. "Thank you for sharing your light with me. I will forever be in your debt." He rose to his feet and stood in front of me. "That's enough, Mother."
Phaela walked in such a way it looked like she was floating across the floor. She came up to Nate and backhanded him so fast and so hard across the face that he went flying against the bar. I don't think any of us expected that the small elderly woman would be capable of such force.
She began to say something I couldn't understand. It might have be Latin or some other forgotten language and reached into her pocket and threw something at the floor in front of me. A poof of violet smoke grew around me. It blocked my vision to see if she was still there. The smoke faded as fast as it grew.
As the air cleared she was no longer standing before me. I looked around the room. Nate was lying on the floor. Maritza looked like she saw a ghost. Graven and Kaden came up to me to make sure I was ok.
"Don't even!" Graven growled at Kaden. "You don't have the right."
I grabbed Graven's arm. Everything in the room started to fade in and out of focus. My eyes rolled to the back of my head. My eyes still felt like they were open, waves of light and color danced in front of me. My heartbeat grew louder and surrounded my senses from all angles.
I tried to hold on to Graven and to the moment, but it was all fading fast. I let my consciousness drift off to my astral body in an attempt to communicate with Graven. "What's wrong with me? I don't know what's happening, I don't feel right."
He didn't respond to me.
"Graven?"
Maritza rushed over to me and grabbed my other arm. I could see the worry on everyone's face. Even in my astral body my surroundings were fading fast.
I heard Nate mumble "sleeping spell," from the ground behind me.
I watched Graven lift me off my feet and hold me against him. My shoe fell from one of my feet and everything faded to white.
