I shrugged. "I can be so stupid at times."
"I already knew that," he said, grinning again.
For once I wasn't going to argue.
He pressed his lips to my forehead. "Just hurry back."
Now I was smiling. "Soon as I can. I'll be counting the days. And this time, no one's going to keep me away. This time, it's for keeps."
Still smiling, I climbed into the Elan, took one last look at the man I loved, the man I had always loved, and drove away.
