His Curvy Temptation

“Yeah, but not like this. Let’s break it to him gently. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to see us naked in bed.”

  “Okay. You’re the boss now.”

As I scramble to pull on an old tee and sweatpants, Johnny is dressed in no time.

He starts over to the bedroom door.

Before he can walk out, I rush over and stop him. “Wait!”

  His brows meet.

I take a deep breath. “Let me go first.”

“Don’t you think it would be best coming from me?”

“He’s family. I have to talk with him…” I study him for a beat. “Alone.”

  “You sure?”

“This is a battle only I can fight.”

As I creep out to the corridor, I glance at Johnny over my shoulder and smile. “It’s my turn to protect you…to protect us.”

  Four months later…

“It’s here!” I bounce up and down on the balls of my feet. “Johnny, come and look at this!”

He slowly pushes from the fireplace after setting a roaring flame, and shuffles over.

I hold out my phone and beckon him over with my free hand. “Hurry up!”

“All right. I’m coming. What is it?”

“Look!” I turn the phone toward him. “My very first music video. It just premiered on YouTube.”

He hooks his hands to his hips, smiling with pride as I play him the clip.

After watching him watch me in action for a few seconds, my gaze falls to the screen of my phone and I tut. “God, everyone else on the shoot were so skinny.”

Johnny wraps an arm around my waist. “But they're not you.”

I roll my eyes and smirk. “I get it. You like the bigger girl.”

He shakes his head. “No, I like you. You look beautiful on the video.” He checks out the film again. “And you’re dancing rings around the others.”

  “You would say that.”

  “I mean it.”

When the clip comes to an end, Johnny pulls back and clasps his hands together. “Right, guess this calls for a celebration.”

“What are we celebrating? My uncle’s blessing for you to whisk me away to your cabin hideaway so we can live our happily ever after, or my first pop video?”

  “Both.”

Just as he walks off to the kitchen, I fold my arms. “Hold on a second.”

He stops and turns to face me. “Too early for festivities?”

“I think you should make an honest woman out of me.”

  “Sorry?”

“You heard me.” I unfurl my arms and point to my wedding finger. “A ring would look dope right here.”

“Oh yeah, let me raid my meager retirement savings for a big shiny diamond.”

“You don’t need to spend a fortune. We could head down to that thrift store we saw yesterday, see what shiny things they’ve got.”

“This is a small town, Georgie, it’s hardly Fifth Avenue. The shiniest stuff they have are fake crystal ashtrays.”

“I’m sure we could find something cute.” I walk up to him and coil my arms around his waist. “I’ve spent my whole life surrounded by money. Do you really think I want you to marry me so I can walk around with a big old rock on my finger?”

He grins. “I was starting to worry. Anyway, don’t you want to keep your options open?”

  “What do you mean?”

“Marrying an old fucker like me.”

“There we go again with the age thing. No, silly. Now I’ve found you I’m never letting you go.”

“Starting to sound like your poor, crazy ex.”

  “Don’t push it.”

He runs a hand through his short crop of silver hair and blows out. “I don’t know. I mean, marriage…the word alone got me into trouble before.”

“Yeah, but now you’ve found the one.”

  “Oh! Have I?”

  I smirk. “Yep.”

“Maybe you should convince me of that.”

“What was last night about? Out in the forest?”

He grins. “Yeah, but it’s a new day now.”

  “Sounds like challenge.”

  “You bet it is.”

Knowing where his naughty mind is taking him, I chew on the inside of my cheek and smile. “Then crack open that champagne and join me in the bedroom.”

He lifts his chin and squints. “Sounds like you're up for the challenge.”

“I’ve convinced you of other stuff before, so I can do it again!”

“Unless it’s a leap year, doesn't the man normally ask the girl to marry him?”

  “Yeah, but you’re too slow.”

  “Must be my age.”

I run a hand along his muscular arm and smile. “Must be.”
