“You be careful out there,” his mother warns, as she kisses his cheek.
“I will, mom. I’ll see you later. Will you be home?” he inquires, as he grabs his keys out of the dish on the table next to the front door.
“No, I’m leaving to run some errands, but I’ll be back for dinner,” she informs him.
They walk out the door, shutting and locking it behind them.
Deep in the basement hushed voices can be heard, but not by human ears.
Fallen and Nevaeh stand in the middle of Aaron’s bedroom.
“Looks like it worked,” Nevaeh says.
“Let’s hope,” Fallen replies, as he wanders over to the side of the bed and bends down.
“What are you doing?” she bids. “And why did you want me to meet you here, with this?” She holds up the old leather-bound book with the unusual symbol on the cover.
Fallen picks up the wooden box that Aaron deposited on the floor next to the bed. He plops it onto the top of the comforter and flips open the lid, then turns and glances at Nevaeh.
“We’re returning them to their proper owner,” he comments.
She appears confused for a moment before she joins him.
“Are you sure we should leave these with him?” she probes, as she places her book in the box.
“We have to,” Fallen informs her, as he lays his book in the box, closes the lid and picks it up. “It belongs to him.”
Fallen walks to the other side of the room and stands in front of Aaron’s poster of Houdini. He puts the box down on the shelf below the poster, then pulls the image off the wall.
“What are you doing?” Nevaeh’s eyebrows pinch together as her forehead wrinkles in confusion.
Fallen waves his hand in a circular motion in front of the wall. Suddenly a hole appears in the wood paneling. He picks up the box and places it in the hole, then waves his hand over it again. The hole disappears. He lifts up the poster and re-hangs it on the wall, then turns around to face Nevaeh.
“Just because we have to leave it for him, doesn’t mean we have to make it easy to find.” He shrugs a shoulder, then walks back over to her. “It’s time to go.”
“I know,” she whispers, as she peers up at him with pleading eyes.
“I’ll miss you,” he whispers, his gaze flickers from her eyes to her lips.
“I know,” she replies.
He leans down, places a hand on her cheek, the other wraps around her waist and pulls her closer. He covers her lips with his own, enveloping her as he explores her softness. Quickly, the kiss becomes overheated, but he pulls back before it gets completely out of control.
He stares down into her eyes.
“One day we’ll be together again,” he promises.
“I know,” she adds.
He pulls her to his chest and squeezes her tight against him.
“I love you,” he whispers.
“I love you, too,” she pleads.
He squeezes her tight once more, then shimmers out of existence.
Nevaeh sighs, takes one last glance around the room and shimmers out, too.
Fallen appears back in the room. He reaches out into the space Nevaeh was standing moments ago. His face contorts into sorrow and longing.
“Till next time,” he whispers, then disappears again.

Dear Readers,
Whoa! Wasn’t that fun. I loved writing this story and can’t wait to continue. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. These characters are great to develop and just when I think I know everything about them, they throw something new my way. I suppose that’s why they’re so fun to write.
My angels and magician will return in the next adventure, so I hope you enjoyed this one enough to continue. The next installment will be released March 10th, 2020, but it is up for preorder now, and I’d be ecstatic if you headed over to the link below and grabbed a copy.
