Now to the hard part, the part I struggled with the whole time while I was pregnant with Jocelyn.
Alec stopped reading and sucked in a breath.
Jocelyn.
Jesus Christ.
His eyes went back to the page.
That night at the bar, you made it clear—crystal clear—you were not the type of man who wanted to settle down. I knew Jocelyn’s existence wouldn’t be welcomed. But please understand for me, she was the best thing that had ever happened. I wanted her from the moment I found out she was growing in my belly. And I’m sorry, Alec, but nothing was going to stand in my way of having her.
I know I meant nothing to you. I’m simply a woman you met in a bar, spent the night with, and then I was forgotten. But to me, outside of my beautiful daughter, you are the best thing that ever happened to me. If I had not met you that night. If I hadn’t found the courage to sit next to you. If you hadn’t taken me home, I would’ve missed out. I wouldn’t have had Jocelyn. And she is the single best thing I have in my life.
I hope you can accept my apology. I know it is a lot to ask, but I also know you’re a good man, an honorable man. Please take care of our daughter. Please love her and care for her. I don’t know what happened to you in your past to make you look so lost, but I hope you find a way to let it go. I hope you find everything you’re looking for. Just so you know, I did. The second Jocelyn was placed in my arms I found everything. I love her, Alec. Please make sure she never forgets it.
