I smacked him playfully on his chest and his blue eyes danced before he dipped down to my lips. He held my body against him and despite the water, I felt nothing but a swirling warmth inside me.
Warmth that grew and swelled and pushed me forward. Pushed me against him as I twisted my legs around his waist and lifted my lips to kiss him.
He kissed me as though he never had before, as though he had been waiting for this one kiss for his entire life. I realized he had, and in some ways, I had too.
I didn’t know it.
I didn’t think it was possible.
I clung to him, opening my mouth as I kissed him, as I coaxed him into me, tasting him for the second time. He was so much sweeter, the taste of him, the feel of him. He kissed me, savoring the dance of our lips as his hands moved down my back to cup my ass, to pull me into him. It was clear he was testing, waiting.
I didn’t pull away, I wrapped my legs around him tighter, feeling the long staff of him tense between my legs. Stiffen. Searching.
“I want you to take me,” I whispered in his ear as he pulled away, moving to trail a line of kisses down my neck. “I want to be yours.”
He pulled back. “I would want nothing more.”
He kissed me again. Kissed me as he lifted me, the water swirling around us as he pressed me against him and slowly lowered me onto him, pressing himself into me.
Spreading me.
It had been so long, and the feel of him sliding into me was as though it was the first time. I gasped and he froze, his cock twitching and begging inside of me as his eyes questioned, wanting to make sure I was okay.
Putting me first.
I kissed him in answer and he grabbed my ass, his hands firm as he pressed himself into me.
Deeper.
Deeper.
Our bodies pressed together in perfect harmony.
“Fuck me,” I whispered in his ear. He didn’t need to be told twice.
His lips trailed over my neck, my jaw, melding with my own as he began to move in and out. His body sliding against me as our connection cemented, as I felt all those wonderful bands of mating slide into place.
Pulling us together.
Together as he fucked me.
Together as he came inside of me.

Emmet
“I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life,” Lucy said, her auburn hair in some kind of poufy braid that wound over her shoulder. Since we only had a week to prepare for this mating ceremony, she’d opted for a cream-colored dress that she bought in a thrift store in town. I offered to wait and get her the dress of her dreams, but she insisted that the dress didn’t matter.
Besides, the dress looked great on her and I knew she loved it.
Resourceful. Beautiful. Flexible.
My kind of female.
“Of course, you haven’t. You’re officially mated to me now.” I couldn't help but pick on her. Sarcasm was our love language. She said it was me covering up having to share my real feelings, but would wear me down as the years went by.
I was fucking happy to hear that she would put up with me for that long.
We both knew there were no guarantees but wanted to move forward as though it was a promise. Enjoy every day, regardless.
“Jeez, Emmet. I’m not sure this dance floor has enough room for you and your ego.” She acted like she was going to walk away from me, but I pulled her back, flush against my body.
“I will always make room for you. Come on, official mate, dance with me.”
She smiled and put her head on my chest. “I can’t believe it’s only been a week since…”
“Since you admitted that we were mates and I thoroughly mated you next to the waterfall?” I whispered the words in her ear so that only we could hear, her body pressed against mine. I felt her shake at the memory.
Our first time.
Of course, there had been many more since then and would be many more tonight.
“Yes,” she whispered, her voice nearly as shaky as my own. “That time.”
“I can’t wait to get you home.” Just thinking about her being there was its own kind of adrenaline rush. We had spent all week moving her from the loft into my tiny two-room cabin. The perfect starter home. “No more sneaking around your sister's house…”
“Oh, were you talking to me? Or about me?” Mandy’s voice tore through the music. Tonight was full of sappy love songs that my mate soaked up like a sponge. Amanda and her mate, Henry, danced their way over to us, both of us twirling side by side on the busy dance floor.
“Talking about how nice it will be not to have to be quiet while I tuck Lucy into bed,” I said, earning myself a playful swat from Lucy. Mandy and Henry just chuckled.
“Cute. They think they were quiet in the first place,” Mandy added in and I felt Lucy blush beneath my palms. “And by the way, Lucy, you’re welcome.”
Lucy had all kinds of makeup on her eyes that made them shimmer like emeralds, but even that still couldn’t deter from the blush. “I’m sorry, what am I thanking you for?”
Mandy laughed. “For telling you that this was possible. For believing that you had another mate even when you were being stubborn. For generally being the upbeat, meddling personality in your life that you needed.” Mandy dusted off her shoulder and smiled at her sister.
Lucy stopped dancing, even though Mandy and Henry kept spinning. “Did you seriously just interrupt this sweet moment with my mate to tell me I told you so?”
Mandy shrugged one shoulder. “I
The entire pack had shown up, which I guess was fairly common, we were a small group. There had been so many newcomers though, meaning there were so many more people than I was used to.
The Alpha, Luke, Emma, and Noah were at the main table, greeting people and enjoying the enormous feast the pack had set up for us. Even Sam and his cronies looked like they were having a good time.
“Question: how many songs do we have to dance to before it’s socially acceptable to get out of here?” Lucy’s question darted me right through the chest. It was like she was reading my mind.
“I think three more songs should do it. Besides, I kind of enjoy showing my new mate off. I mean, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
She snorted. “You’re in your twenties, Emmet. You haven’t been waiting that long.”
I bent down and kissed her crimson, pouty lips. “Feels like a long time. Good thing I get to keep you forever.”
Another song started up. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Emma and Noah approach us. My stomach somersaulted. I hadn’t been looking forward to this confrontation. Especially since I was on the bad end of it.
“You two are so cute together,” Emma said, winking at us. “Who knew when you showed up you would claim this one?”
Emma looked at Lucy as she knocked her head to me, both she and Noah laughing. Good, Noah didn’t seem to be pissed. He was as enthralled with Emma as I was with Lucy.
I cleared my throat and bit the bullet. “Hey, Noah, I owe you an apology, man. I’m sorry for the way I treated you before. That was shitty. Let’s say I was an asshole in a dark place. It won’t happen again.”
Noah paused, looking me dead in the eye as he debated what to say. Thankfully, he exhaled and took my hand with a hearty laugh. “No worries, Emmet. I might be a little pissy too if I was in your shoes.”
We danced for a few more songs under the twinkly lights and before long Lucy began to complain about her shoes. She took them off and tossed them off the dance floor, but I knew she was tired. I could practically feel it oozing from her pores.
“Ready to go, mate?” I whispered in her ear, making sure my lips grazed her earlobe, the place tha
t made her entire body shudder.
“I’m so ready to go.”
I smiled at her as she flashed me a smile. “I’m gonna do everything I can to make you happy, Lucy.”
She pulled me down for a kiss. “Then take me home, Emmet.”

Lucy
“Are you sure you’re done?” I was aghast at what he said. It seemed like just yesterday he had shown up here, ready to hammer things. “I think I’m not happy about the shade of mint green in my office. And while I’m on the subject, the hallway should have one more coat of paint. And I swore I heard a squeak on the floors when I walked into the bathroom.”
A smile rose on my mate’s face as he listened to me ramble on with my nonsense excuses. He knew it was nonsense. Emmet had done a fantastic job on my building. Hell, the damned thing looked almost brand new.
“Go ahead...say it.”
I squinted and put my balled fist on my hip. “Say what?”
He pulled me against him and I ground my hips against his. “Say that you’re gonna miss me being here every day. Say that you wish I had more to do so I could be here with you.”
Scrunching up my nose, I playfully pushed at his chest. “Maybe.”
He chuckled, jostling us both. “Maybe, my ass. Come on, let’s go home. The sun is about to set and I’m starving.”
Something I’d learned about my mate was that he was starving all the time. Starving for food... and me. The honeymoon period was still fully in force and we were loving every damned second of it.
Which is probably why I was so bummed about not seeing him at work. I mean, it wasn’t like I wouldn’t see him every night at home.
With a sigh, he took my hand and was leading us toward our cabin when Margaret, one of the women who cooked for the Alpha, came bustling up like she was going to call us to war.
“Emmet,” she heaved, blocking the path. “I’m glad I caught you. I’ve been wanting to talk to you.”
Okay, so no war, but that didn’t necessarily calm me down.
“Yes?” Emmet asked, tightening his hand around mine as he pulled us to a stop.
“I saw what you did with the old clinic. Good work. Amazing work. I was wondering if you had any experience remodeling kitchens?”
Emmet looked at her and shrugged. “I have a little experience. I can lay tile and build cabinets. Why?”
Margaret beamed as though she’d discovered sunshine and bounced on her toes.
“Excellent. I was speaking to the Alpha about the work you did and I was wondering if you would consider remodeling my kitchen.” Margaret was still beaming and Emmet’s hand loosened around mine. I could practically feel the exhilaration pouring off him. “I wanted to make sure I got here first because I know that Timothy needs some work on his guest bathroom. And then...well, apparently there’s a list of repairs and remodels to be done in the pack. I’m sure the Alpha wouldn’t mind it if you didn’t return to the fields and helped us all with this.”
Emmet chuckled, the sound so joyous it was infectious. “Are you kidding me? I would love to! That’s my dream!”
Margaret held out her hand and Emmet shook it enthusiastically. The guy was practically glowing. It was making me bouncy just to see it. I couldn’t help it, a giggle leaked out.
“Looks like you’ve got a new career,” I was beaming as we went into the house while the sun dipped behind the mountains.
“I don't know how this day could get any better,” he was practically singing as he turned me in his arms so that I could face him. “Actually, I do. Come on, there’s something I’ve been wanting to show you all day.” I followed him into the bedroom and promptly gasped, hand flying to my mouth and everything. A gorgeous hand-carved wooden bed sat in the middle of the room. The thing was handmade, and I had an idea as to who was responsible. I spun to him, the guy still grinning, obviously guilty.
“What do you think?”
“I love it, Emmet. It’s gorgeous. It’s so beautiful. I’m almost afraid to sleep on it.”
“Why?” he chuckled, his hands shifting to my waist as he led me forward. “It’ll hold up. I’ll show you.”
Those last few words were whispers in my ear as he led me closer to the bed, his body flush against mine. I could feel his need for me growing firmer.
Good. My need for him was just as strong.
This time, however, I had my own plans.
I stopped him before we reached the bed, my hands tightening around his as I pulled him around to face me.
His eyebrows pulled up in confusion. Well, until he caught sight of me.
I grinned at him and pushed him back on the bed, my wolf growling as I slowly walked toward him, pulling off my pants and my shirt as I went.
His grin stretched and he moved to remove his pants but I stopped him with a half-smile, throwing his hands back as I gripped his waistband.
“Leave this to me.” I gave him a grin, his smile pulling up.
I made quick work of the pants, leaving him bulging and moaning as I ran my palm over the soft fabric of his boxers.
“Play with me,” Emmet said in a half beg, half command.
I smiled more. “I think I’ll do whatever I want, thank you.”
I stalked closer to him, crawling over the bed and him like a cat stalking its prey. Emmet got the picture and laid back, bucking against me as I slowly lowered his boxers and let him spring free.
He moaned as the wide head of his cock rubbed against the inside of my thigh.
“Taunt you. Torture you. Fuck you.” I named each as I shifted, rocking over him and letting his hungry staff rub against thigh, slide along the wetness of my own needs.
Damn.
I could already tell I was going to be bad at this. Just feeling him against my opening was taking away any thought of a tease.
I rocked one more time, my moan joining his before I lifted to sit above him as I placed him inside of me.
And then lowered myself down.
He moaned as he filled me. I sighed as he spread me.
Before I could do anything more, he gripped my hips and thrust himself deeper, sighing as I began to ride him.
His fingers pressed into my hips as I moved, sliding against him as I lifted myself, only to slide back down onto him. Dancing, swaying, teasing.
I couldn’t help but moan, the way he moved inside of me, the way my clit rubbed against him. It was too much.
I could feel myself moving closer and closer to climax and I moaned, moving faster in my search.
“No, you don’t,” Emmet didn’t let me get any closer. His hands tightened as he twisted, moving me underneath him.
“I still want to be the one to make you come,” he growled, the animal claim he had on me settling in my soul as he began to thrust into me, one hand on my knee. The other hand on my clit as he began to circle, his touch very quickly drove me over the edge.
I screamed in pleasure as he pressed himself firmly into me, as we came together.
Just as we always did.
Just as I hoped we always would.
