I smiled, massaging his bearded face. “Me too.”

Abruptly, I’m jarred from my thoughts as I’m snatched out of my bathroom.

  “Where is he?”

I’m thrown into the arms of a tall, slender man with salt and pepper hair. He grimaced, squeezing my arms tighter.

My heartbeat thrashed in my ears.

  “Where the fuck is he?”

“You are hurting me,” I squirmed.

“He’s not here! Who are you?”

One end of his lips curled upward. “I’m an old friend. We go way back.”

He reminded me of an old-time gangster. The ones you watched in the movies. I can’t believe this man found Dillon after all these years. I wonder how?

“Get your fucking hands off me!” My knee flew toward his balls.

Before my knee made contact, the man behind me snatched me back against him. The older man drew his gun, pointing it in my direction.

  My eyes bulged.

“You’re a feisty one.” His filthy eyes roamed my body.

“I’ll find out how dirty you are when I fuck you later,” he snickered.

I felt a deep pain in my chest. I hope Dillon is on his way home.

“You won’t get away with this…” I wriggled.

“Jeff is going to kill you!”

He snatched my arm, dragging me through the house. I stumbled down the stairs due to his henchman pushing me.

“Shut your pretty little mouth before I slam my dick in it!”

He yanked me out of the house into the back yard, where we waited for Dillon to arrive. Hundreds of bad thoughts flooded my brain. I will never see my kids again; this man is going to kill me; I never get to marry the love of my life, it all ends here. Tears flowed down my face. I had trouble focusing on who walked into the back yard.

I blinked quickly to clear the tears from my eyes.

“I can’t believe it’s you. Fucking weasel! Why did you do it, Dillon?”

  “Do what?”

  “Fake your death?”

“Filippo, you don’t want her you want me!”

“No. I want you both. I’m going to kill her right in front of you.”

My knees grew weak. I couldn’t take my eyes off Dillon.

  “No!” Dillon screamed.

Filippo’s hand squeezed my mouth tighter. I couldn’t scream.

“I’m going to fucking kill you, Filippo. Sierra, you know what to do?”

I shook my head yes. If I could just try to wriggle out of his grip, Dillon might have a shot.

“Oh wait! You told her who you are, Dillon! Well, isn’t that romantic. I’m sure your daddy would be proud you took after him. The way your father fawned all over your mother was fucking sick.”

My eyes widened. What does he mean fawned over? Dillon said his father beat his mother half to death, essentially killing her.

“Dillon Magarelli! If you’re not dead then that means Anthony is somewhere hiding too.”

My heart sank. The man I fell in love with lied to my face that day in my office. Dillon Magarelli. I know who he is. My father knew his father Sergio. I was taught to protect myself against dirty men like Sergio. Dillon is his son. How can this be?

I remembered, his father came to our house when I was twelve. He never saw me. I stuck close to my father’s office door, eavesdropping.

“I’m closing the gambling houses. I ain’t doing that shit no more. I passed the bar exam, I’m becoming an attorney. I will be responsible for putting criminals behind bars. Sergio, listen, take a page out of my book. Run for office, stop working for your father.”

“Leo, if it had been anyone else talking to me like this they would be dead. I still consider you to be a friend.”

“Good, let that life go. I will help you run for mayor of Newark.”

  Sergio sighed. “Ok.”

  “Good!” my father exclaimed.

  I heard them laugh.

  “Girl, what are you doing?”

I glanced to my right into my mother’s pretty face. I grinned yet had no words.

“Go do your homework,” she whispered.

Swiftly, I walked toward my bedroom.

Popping back to the present. My teary eyes stared into Dillon’s.

“Dillon, you lied!” I mumbled against Filippo’s hand.

I wanted to throw up. The tightness in my throat, constricted my lungs, making it difficult to breathe. My heart stopped. How could he betray me this way?

Filippo removed his hand from my mouth. At that point, I saw black spots and my anger took over.

“Dillon, you told me your father was in prison and your mother was dead!”

His fingers slowly moved through his hair. “Sierra, I couldn’t tell you what I really witnessed or who I really was.”

“You fucking lying son of a bitch!” I kicked and tussled.

“Your father is the fucking governor and an alleged mob boss of New Jersey! You never loved me!” I cried.

“How could you tell me your mother was dead?! What kind of evil, manipulative person does that? You fucking bastard! I hate you! I fucking hate you!” I was hot. I hated Dillon in that moment. I didn’t know him at all.

His mouth dropped open. “You don’t mean that, Sierra. Baby, I love you!” he yelled.

“I’m not sorry to burst your bubble, Princess. His father is the mob. I’m the mob. Dillon is the mob. Dillon was supposed to be the next mob boss. Shit, technically you are the new mob boss.” He and his bodyguard laughed.

“I let you get away with murdering my fucking uncle to keep a war from coming. Fuck, why couldn’t you just let shit go?! I’m not like my father!”

His strong, vengeful laugh shook through me. “Dillon, the good son. The fucking martyr! You have to pay for shooting Leech!”

My eyes widened. Dillon shot someone?

The bodyguard’s phone rang. He answered it. “Yeah, I got it.”

He disconnected the call. “Boss, we have a problem. Our men have been taken out by Sergio’s guys.”

  “What? How?”

“Sergio flew out of Jersey a little while ago. He’s probably sending guys here as we speak. We have to go.” The henchman held his gun steady on Dillon.

“Let’s go. Change of plans. We’re going to take your girlfriend. After I fuck her several times. I’ll mail you pieces of her body every week.”

My stomach was in knots. My head was heavy, filled with the certainty of death.

“You piece of shit. If you lay a hand on her, I will slit your fucking throat! I will fucking kill you, Filippo!” Dillon inched closer. Filippo fired his gun. The bullet penetrated Dillon’s stomach.

My eyes bulked. “Dillon! No!” I cried.

There was an instant heaviness in my stomach. Despite how hot it was today; a sudden coldness rocked my entire body.

I couldn’t lose him. He can’t die. I love him.

Dillon bent over, holding his stomach with one hand, gun still extended in the other.

My arms stretched out toward him, tears pouring down my face. “I love you, Dillon! Please don’t leave me!”

His face tensed from the pain. He never took his eyes off me.

My chin and lips trembled as I screamed and cried.

Filippo held me in his arms, I kicked and screamed. He carried me out of the back yard tossing me into a Suburban.

  “Dillon!” I cried out.

Stretching my neck, I could see Dillon lying face down in the grass.

“You killed him!” My fists swung, slamming into Filippo’s chest.

His eyes bulged. “That’s enough, bitch!” He clocked me over the head with the butt of his revolver.

  CHAPTER SIX

  SIERRA

Slowly, my eyes opened, then closed. The smell of expensive woodsy aftershave filled the air. I heard men talking. I couldn’t see them. I was gagged and bound, lying across cream colored butter
seats, hidden by two captain chairs on a luxury jet.

“Sergio won’t rest until he finds you. You killed his brother. He will die trying to kill you,” a man whispered to Filippo.

“The best part about today was killing Dillon, Sergio’s most beloved son. The bonus will be getting to taste that pretty piece of ass back there. The look on Dillon’s face when I told him I was going to fuck his woman.” He laughed.

“Yeah, I’m definitely going to fuck her.”

I whimpered after hearing his words.

“I’m going to spit in Serg’s face. Fuck him and his high and mighty attitude!” Filippo growled.

  “The war has begun.”

Not sure how much time had passed, it’s still day light. Jersey is probably our destination. All I can do is lie here, pondering my previous conversations with Dillon. It makes sense now why he was so precautious all the time. I remember the long pause when I picked up on his Jersey accent. No one had snuffed out his secret. I was raised to be observant.

I remember my dad’s words. “Sierra, why is it important for you to become a judge?”

I sighed, halting the knife from cutting cantaloupe into chunks for a fruit salad. I turned to my father, who sat at the kitchen counter across from me. “To ensure justice is served.”

  He smiled. “Good.”

I hated those talks. What about what I wanted? I didn’t want to be an attorney, then a judge. I wanted to work for me.

My thoughts take me back to the moment I first saw Dillon, I wanted him in unspeakable ways. The more I got to know him the more I craved him. My eyes would close while we talked on the phone. I was taken by his deep voice. My pussy was wet on impact when he called me baby.

His Jersey accent was fucking sexy. The day I stood in his office and Dillon informed me his cousin told him some disturbing news, why didn’t I ask him where this cousin came from since he ran from his family? I didn’t push. I wasn’t being observant. I was being blinded by choice. Shit, I knew Dillon had something to hide, but my love for him overshadowed my common sense to pay attention or to ask questions, mainly to walk away. Shit! Why didn’t I walk away when he accused me of knowing who he was that day in the park? God, why? Why did I fall in love with the enemy? A mob boss. Tears drop against the soft leather seat. Those words Filippo recited stand out in my thoughts. Dillon was supposed to be the next mob boss. I’m sickened by the thought. However, my heart aches. I can barely breathe. My fiancé is gone. He will never hold me in his big, strong arms again, never gaze into my steel gray eyes again, never touch me again in a way only he could, which sends shivers up my spine. Dillon always made me feel special, the only woman who mattered. He fawned over me like Filippo said his father fawned over his mother.

One day sitting in my computer science class in high school, I entered a search on the Internet. I wanted to see what Sergio Magarelli looked like. Clutching my eyes shut, I think hard back to the image on the computer. A strapping man, his facial features were ominous and his smile revealed all the cockiness of a man getting away with murder every day. His dark medium length hair was perfectly cut and slicked back. Those over-powering eyebrows now remind me of Dillon’s. The small hairs stand on my arms as my memories reveal their resemblance.

  ****

I missed Dillon. My Dillon is gone. Despite learning his true identity, I still want him to hold me in his arms and tell me everything is going to be all right. I remember his words, ‘I will always protect you. I would lay down my life for you.’ My handsome hero can’t save me now.

The only reason Sergio is coming for Filippo is because he killed his brother and son. He may not save me in the process. He doesn’t even know I exist.

  ~

Fingers creep up my dress. Instantly, my eyes pop open and I jerk back. Filippo’s eyes are filled with darkness. He snatched the gag from my mouth, it drops around my neck. Fresh tears form in my eyes. “Please leave me alone. Stop touching me!” I wanted to kick him in his mouth, but I couldn’t.

He licked his lips, then his head dipped down, his tongue grazed my shin.

“Stop! Please stop,” I cried. I continued to wiggle, hoping it would stop his slithering tongue. His hands crept further up my dress, rubbing the seat of my panties.

“Stop! Get your fucking hands off me.”

  “Not a chance!” he growled.

Filippo stood, removing his jacket and dress shirt, leaving on his undershirt. My body shivered as my heart beat left my chest. He was about to rape me, and there was nothing I could do. At this point, I had nothing to lose.

“My father is going to put you under the jail!” I laughed. “My father is Supreme Court Justice Judge Leonard Simmons. By the way, he is the reason Sergio Magarelli became mayor and now governor of New Jersey.” I laughed.

“You’re fucked. My father and Sergio go way back.”

I laughed hysterically to keep from crying. “Welp!” His heavy hand roughly swiped against my cheek, knocking me face down on the floor.

“Now I have you right where I want you. I’m going to fuck that tight little ass-hole.”

Pushing my dress up my back, he yanked my panties down, exposing my bare ass. Another chill ran through me. Snot and tears puddled the floor before me. Where could I go in my head? I felt his finger jam into my tight ass-hole. A searing flush of pain rushed through me from the intrusion. The abrupt, chilling violation I felt was unspeakable. I couldn’t kick or punch. No one cared to hear my cries.

My mind drifted. I stood on the balcony off our bedroom, taking in the beautiful mountain view and star-filled night sky. Dillon wrapped his arms around my waist from behind. His lips rested against my temple. My hands crossed my body, rubbing his arms. I was in heaven, standing in my man’s strong arms.

  My thoughts were interrupted.

“Please take your seats and fasten your seat belts. We are landing in thirty minutes,” the pilot announced over head.

  “Shit!” Filippo grunted.

I felt my panties slide up over my ass.

“Filippo!” one of his henchmen called out.

“Junior wants to know where we are moving to next. It’s important we have a secure plan. Serg’s men will have the city wrapped tight.”

  “Yeah, I’m coming.”

Filippo picked me up, slamming me against the seat.

He zipped his pants then slipped his dress shirt on.

He leaned in close. “Fuck your father and Sergio. I will kill them both!” he yelled. His harsh words burned through my body. His tongue, reeking of cigarettes, landed against my cheek, sliding up the side of my face.

My eyes slammed shut as I cringed.

He buckled the seat belt around my waist.

“I will fuck you before the day is out,” he warned.

My large gray eyes stared at him until he disappeared.

I laid my head against the soft seat. The stinging, throbbing sensation in my ass sent my thoughts elsewhere again.

Closing my eyes, I continued thinking about me and Dillon. We were supposed to be on our way to a beautiful beach destination. I don’t want to focus my thoughts on Dillon not being alive.

Could we be together now that I know the truth? I set those thoughts aside and imagined we were laid out in our white lounge chairs, holding hands on the beach, staring out into the tranquil blue water.

The next day, on the beautiful island of Fiji, we prepared to recite our vows to each other. We weren’t getting married on this trip, but it’s my daydream, so I dreamed of us getting married on a beautiful sandy beach. I’m dressed in a beautiful wedding gown, which trails behind me as my bare feet whip through the sand toward Dillon, who stands before the minster dressed in tan linen pants and a white short-sleeve button down beach shirt. Standing before him, his smile is as wide as the ocean.

Despite all that’s happened, no one could tell me Dillon didn’t love me. I won’t ever let anyone tarnish what we
built. My mouth opens, but no sound is released. A hollow wail suffocates my body. The horrific images erupt in my head of Dillon being shot before me. My beautiful man’s face is embedded in our lawn. All I wanted to do was run to him, shake him until he awoke, begging him to come back to me. Not sure how we would have handled the mob business, but I doubt I could have ever let Dillon go. He is the man who loved me unconditionally, treated me like a queen. His words. “I live to keep a smile on that beautiful face.”

I want him back. God, please! Don’t let Dillon be dead. I need him. I can’t live without him, I prayed silently.

The tears from my eyes created mini rivers on the seat under me. Reality crushed me.

There’s no coming back from this. My Dillon is gone.

  CHAPTER SEVEN

  DILLON

I observed from my plush leather seat, two friends catching up. Gio’s stalky frame quakes with laughter. He ran a hand through his slicked back medium length black hair. His face usually holds a look of seriousness. His strong, deep blue eyes have always had the women falling at his feet. He is dressed in a custom gray suit giving off a professional bodyguard appearance. Tony is dressed in tactical gear like me. His blue eyes are bright for the first time in years. Those two have always been thick as thieves.

This was turning out to be one of the longest days of my life. Pinching my eyes shut a few times didn’t help to keep my mind off what could be happening to Sierra.

My dad threw the harsh whiskey down his throat. He waved his glass in the air. The flight attendant appeared from the galley kitchen behind us.

  “Refill,” he ordered.

  “Right away, sir.”

My eyes turned to my father in the seat next to me. “Dad, tell me what’s been going on. I need to keep my mind off my dark thoughts.”

He blew out a breath. “The year you died, we found out we were pregnant with your sister Alexandria.” His smile was bright. “Your mother and I poured our love into her and Dominic.” He sighed.

“Dominic and I argued often. He said I loved you more than him.” His eyes landed on me. “He asked to run the family business, be my number two. He will feel threatened now that you’re back. I know we never discussed the order of the business…”
