Can't Stop the Love of A Boss 2

“I kinda knew you were gonna say that.”
“When you’re in a relationship, both parties have to be happy. She wasn’t happy with you. Let her be happy with him,” Connie told him.
He wanted to sit and talk to her some more, but his phone kept ringing.
“Hello,” he answered.
“Here it is I’m on bedrest, and you not being here with me sucks,” Nikki whined into the phone.
“Is anything wrong with you?” Pain asked. He put his head down because he knew what her answer was going to be.
“Yeah, my stomach hurts a lot. I’m tired of just sitting here all day. You don’t give a shit about me, it’s all about this baby. One day you’re gonna regret treating me like this,” she told him.
“If I come to the house and nothing is wrong with you, I’m gonna slap the shit out of you,” Pain said before ending the call.
He turned to walk out of the room.
“Pain, let that other girl be. As long as you’re connected to her cousin, you will never have peace. Don’t take her peace because you gave up yours,” Connie told him.
He gave her a head nod and continued out of the office.
Connie sat at her desk looking at the door. She could see the good in Pain even if he couldn’t see it, and she hoped he took her advice and let his ex-girlfriend have some type of happiness. Connie would be surprised if his baby mama made it through the entire pregnancy. She was already on bedrest for stress, and here she was making everybody’s life a living hell. Connie had learned that in the midst of people trying to destroy others, they often end up destroying themselves. She said a silent prayer that Pain could find some type of peace in his life.
Chapter Twelve
Murder was packing his bag to go out of town as Lawrynn sat in the room pouting because the trip was unexpected. Her vision was eighty percent back. Although she was comfortable being in the house by herself for the two days that Murder would be gone, she still felt incomplete with the thought of him not being there with her. They had been together so much that him not being around was sure to be a struggle.
“Why are you sitting there looking like that? I’m only going to be gone for two days. Uncle Jimmy’s gonna be with me. Ms. Ella will come check on you. I know all you’re gonna do is sit around the house and listen to those dumb ass shows you like to hear so much. When I get back, you should be going to the doctor to get those glasses off. Are you ready to look me in the eye?” he asked.
Lawrynn nodded and let a few tears fall. Murder wiped the tears and kissed her cheek.
“Don’t get in any trouble,” she told him.
“It’s not that type of trip. You worry too much. I just gotta go check out some information. It’s all good I promise,” he told her as he went back to packing his bags. His phone rang, and he answered it, knowing who it was. “I’m about to come out now,” he said quickly before ending the call.
Murder walked over to Lawrynn and gave her a nice, slow, sloppy kiss. He didn’t know why he didn’t stop the kiss because it definitely woke his body up. Although he had done things to Lawrynn’s body while she was in recovery, they hadn’t made love yet. He wanted to wait until she could see the love in his eyes, and he see the same in hers. After what she had gone through, she deserved that and so much more.
“I love you, Maurice,” she told him.
“I love you too. I’ll be back before you know it. I promise,” Murder said.
Murder gathered his bag up and went out the door. He felt his feet getting heavier with every step. Not only did he not want to leave her, but he also didn’t like not telling her the whole truth, but this was something that needed to be done. They needed answers, and the people there weren’t coming up off those any time soon.
“You didn’t tell her where you were going?” Uncle Jimmy asked as he pulled the car onto the street.
“No, I didn’t want to tell her and get her hopes up. I don’t know where this niggas head is at. If everything goes well, then I’ll tell her everything. Right now, I just need some fucking answers,” Murder said.
The ride to the airport was a quiet one. Murder was swamped with thoughts different possible outcomes of the visit that he was about to make. He had never met a woman’s parents that he dealt with, but just like with everything else, Lawrynn was bringing him out of his normal shit. Not only was he about to meet her father, he was going to pretty much question him about what the hell was up with him and Laura. The more he thought about it, the more he knew that Laura was hiding something, and it had to be something big.
“If you keep thinking all hard like that, your head is going to explode. Don’t force or rush it. If we get here and he doesn’t want to acknowledge his daughter or her mama, let his ass have it. We’re not here to put together a family reunion. Answers are the only goal we have for this visit. I know you’re gonna try to get him to come back and shit, but just don’t lead with that. Feel his ass out first,” Uncle Jimmy said.
“I get what you’re saying, but she’s gonna need him more than ever now. Her mom is really showing that she’s on some other shit. I should’ve punched her old ass in the face at the hospital that night. She’s only called Law once since she’s gotten out of the hospital. Her brothers have checked on her more times than I can count. I don’t understand that shit at all, man,” Murder said, shaking his head.
“If anybody’s gonna hit her, I’ll get Ella to do it. You don’t need to be putting your hands on her mother. That’s still her mother, and you never know. She may end up forgiving her due to the fact that she is her mother. I can guarantee you that if you put your hands on her, she will always look at you sideways. I know you want to help, but just chill and let them work out their own shit. When somebody threatens her, that’s when you step in,” Uncle Jimmy schooled him.
As they stepped on the plane, Murder knew that he would have to hold his anger and trigger finger in check.

After the plane ride, they made the drive to the house they believed to be the residence of the man they knew to be Lawrynn’s dad. The house wasn’t too fancy, but they knew it wasn’t cheap either. There was a Cadillac in the driveway that screamed old ass playa. Murder looked at his uncle, then they both looked at the car and started laughing. As they stepped on the porch, the front door opened. There was an older black man standing in the doorway with a nine-millimeter in his right hand.
“Which one of you niggas gonna tell me what the fuck you at my door for?” he said harshly.
“I came looking for the father of Lawrynn. Her mother’s name is—” Murder was trying to finish his sentence but was cut off by the man.
“Laura is her mother’s name. Is Lawrynn okay?” he asked.
“It’s hard to explain. If we could step in, I’ll explain everything to you,” Murder said.
“Which one of y’all niggas are in love with my daughter? Being that his ass looks just as old as I am, you better say it’s your ass or we all gonna die on this porch today,” he said, looking at Murder.
“Nah, he’s my uncle, and I’m the one in love with your daughter,” Murder answered.
“Good answer,” he said as he opened the front door wider so they could both make their way in. He looked Murder up and down as he walked past him. Murder could feel him looking at him, but he had a reason for coming to this man’s house, so he needed to focus on that. “Have a seat. Do either of you want a beer or something?” he asked.
“Nah, we good,” Murder answered.
“Okay, so get to the point. What’s going on with Lawrynn?” he asked Murder and Uncle Jimmy.
“She was attacked by her cousin with some kind of cleaner that she found at the mall. She lost her sight temporarily. However, her mama, Laura, has been acting strange ever since it happened. Her cousin was arrested, but Laura got Lawrynn’s brothers to bail her out of jail. She’s been checking on her more than she checks or even asks about Lawrynn,” Murder told him.
“Why would Nell h
urt Lawrynn like that? From what I understand, they’re close like sisters. Something else has got to be going on,” Lawrynn’s father said.
“Your name is Kelvin, right?” Uncle Jimmy asked as he scooted to the edge of the sofa.
“Yeah, but you already knew that, right?” Kelvin answered.
“Nell isn’t the cousin that did that to Lawrynn, it was Nikki, Letitica’s daughter,” Uncle Jimmy said.
“Letitica doesn’t have any kids that I know of, especially not any kids around Lawrynn and Nell’s age. As far I know, she can’t even have kids,” Kelvin said, looking at the two men in his living room like they were speaking a foreign language. “Maybe y’all should start from the beginning because some shit ain’t sounding right,” he said and took his freshly opened beer to the head.
Kelvin sat back and listened to what the two had to say, and he couldn’t believe the shit that they were telling him. By the time they finished talking, Kelvin had gotten tired of going to the fridge for another beer and just took the twelve pack and put it on the table in front of him.
“Just out of curiosity, why did you leave and never come back?” Murder asked.
“Laura and I were supposed to be the shit as far as couples in the hood go. Everyone knew who we belonged to. She had just as many niggas trying their hands with her as I had women throwing the pussy at me. I never folded and always remained faithful. Laura, on the other hand, started messing around with this guy named Polo behind my back. I don’t know how long they were messing around, but by the time I found out, she had just had what I thought was our second daughter, Lanisha.
“After finding out about her and Polo, I took both of the girls to get DNA tests done. She was pissed that I took things that far. Being a man, I couldn’t live without knowing if the girls were really mine or not. That was the worst two weeks of my damn life. Laura was slamming cabinets and shit around the house. She was pissed with me like I was the one who cheated. I know if I would’ve come home with an outside baby, she would’ve killed my ass sure enough. Anyway, when the test was done, I found out that Lawrynn was mine but Lanisha wasn’t,” Kelvin said.
Murder and Jimmy both were boiling on the inside. Laura was turning out to be the snake they thought she was.
“Where is the other child? You’re saying she had a baby after Lawrynn, but the only other children Lawrynn knows about are her brothers. She’s the only girl as far as she knows,” Murder said, anxious for the pieces to fall into place.
“I told her we couldn’t be together anymore because I wasn’t raising another man’s child. I left, but I had to come back for some of my things. The day I came back, she had cooked this big ass meal. I thought she was about to have company or something. Come to find out, she had done all that for me. She was hoping that I would come back to be with her.
After I tried to find out what the hell she’d been smoking, she told me that she gave the baby to its father. I laid her ass out because she basically gave a damn baby away just to keep me. She wasn’t worried about keeping me when she was fucking the shit out of Polo,” Kelvin said and paused to take two more drinks of beer and shake his head.
“We argued some more then I left. I stayed in contact with La-La over the years, and that’s how I knew what was going on with Lawrynn. She sent me some pictures here and there. I have an account set up for when she came to find me. I could’ve just came back to Virginia and forced Laura’s hand, but she was always a sneaky, slimy bitch. So, to keep the drama down, I stayed away,” Kelvin said.
“You said Letitica can’t have kids. How do you know that?” Murder asked.
“Letitica and Laura were close as fuck back then. Laura had Letitica wrapped around her finger. She would do anything for Laura no matter what it was. One time, Laura had got into some shit with some females who stayed down the street, and she boosted Letitica up to go down there and fight the damn girl. She sent her down there to get beat damn near to death.
“Come to find out, Letitica ended up being jumped by at least five bitches. During the beating, Letitica said that the girls were stomping her head and stomach. The doctor came in and told us that the damage to her stomach had caused her uterus to shift. The motherfucker said it was the first time he had ever seen the shit happen. Talking about she must have been hit with the same amount of force as a speeding minivan. Laura never apologized or had one fucking word of sympathy. I should’ve known then that Laura was definitely a mentally challenged mother fucker,” Kelvin said.
“I’m gonna marry your daughter. In fact, I plan on proposing to her in a few days. I want you to be there. We also have to find out where this Lanisha person is. I know if Lawrynn has a sister out there, she would love to meet her,” Murder said.
Kelvin sat back and thought about if he should go back and expose Laura to everyone. Deep inside, he was still hurt about the second child not being his. He didn’t hate Laura, but he damn sure didn’t like her.
“Call me tomorrow, and I’ll give you an answer. Fuck all that other stuff, tell me about the nigga who’s trying to marry my daughter,” Kelvin said with a smile.
Instead of going to the hotel, they ended up staying at the house with Kelvin due to the four extra bedrooms he had. He told Murder before they all went to bed that he would gladly come back to Virginia with them to get shit out in the open.
Chapter Thirteen
Pain was avoiding everyone right now. He was pissed that Connie had pulled his card like she did in a nice way. Everything she said was the truth. Then there was Nikki and all her shit. He actually stood outside the room she slept in with his gun drawn and contemplated killing her. Pain felt like he was stuck with her for life. She wasn’t going to let him just take the baby and raise him if the child was not his. If the kid turned out to be his then she would purposely make his life a living hell.
“How did shit get this fucked up?” he asked himself.
Pain was now lying on his bed looking at the ceiling. He knew he couldn’t kill Nikki even if he couldn’t stand the sight of her right now. He had to find ways to stop himself from going crazy and killing her ass. When he heard a knock on the door, he rolled his eyes and blew out an exasperated sigh.
“Why you knocking on my door?” he asked.
“Because I’m your damn daddy, and I don’t want to just walk up in your room and see you massaging your Jim Joe Willy. Open this damn door,” his father, George, said.
Pain hopped up to open the door for his father. “What you doing here?” he asked.
“Well, hello to your rude ass too. I came here to see if the police were here with yellow tape around the house. I see you got that girl here. You know that’s not a good idea, right?” George asked his son.
“Pop, I can’t have her go home and try to do something to herself and lose the baby,” Pain explained.
“If she wants to do something to that baby or herself, being in your house ain’t gonna change it. Did she tell you that she was going to try something like that?” he asked.
“No, but I don’t put it past her,” he answered.
“Then why you don’t think she’ll try to kill your dumb ass? My granddaddy used to tell us, if a woman’s mind is made up, the last thing you’re gonna do is force her to change it. You need to get her out of your house before something unexplainable happens to you,” George said.
“She ain’t gonna do shit to me,” Pain replied.
“All those dead men on that show, Snapped, thought the same damn thing. I’m telling you something ain’t right with her. Why she can’t go stay with her people?” he asked. Pain was quiet. “You didn’t even check to see if she could go stay with her folks, did you?” George asked even though he knew the answer. “Boy, I swear I need to stop talking to you. You make my pressure go up,” George told him.
“Pop, how can I just pawn her off on her people like that?” Pain asked.
“She doesn’t belong to you. You have no ties to her until you find out if that baby is yours. If I have to
speak at your funeral, I’m gonna lay your ass out right in the church. The good Lord will know I’m telling the truth. I just came by to see you and make sure you’re okay. I’m leaving to go to Bingo and get one of the ladies to help me play. You need to get that girl out of this house,” George said as he turned to walk out of the bedroom.
“Pop, you know how to play Bingo already,” Pain said.
“You and I know that, but the lady with the big ole titties don’t. Get out of my business and take out the trash around here,” he told Pain before making his way to the front door.
Pain heard the door shut. Until his dad mentioned it, he had never thought about Nikki doing anything to him. Now that he had said something, Pain had a funny feeling in the pit of his stomach. He walked out of his room just in time to see Nikki’s room door closing. He kept walking to see the nurse gathering up her things.
“What’s going on? Where are you going?” he asked her.
“I’m just going to put this stuff in my car. I saw Ms. Nikki in the hallway, and she told me I could go for the rest of the night,” the nurse answered.
“In the hallway? What was she doing in the hallway?” he asked.
“When I saw her, it looked like she was about to come in your room. Did she not come in there? She was standing next to the door,” the nurse said.
“Nah, she must’ve changed her mind. Lock up when you leave out. I’m gonna go check on her then I’m gonna crash out for the rest of the night. Be safe out there,” Pain told her. He walked to Nikki’s door and stood there until he heard the front door close, then he turned the knob and walked into the room. “So, you’re standing outside my door now, listening to conversations and shit,” Pain asked.
Nikki looked up at him with tears in her eyes. Pain would’ve been concerned about why she was crying a few weeks ago, but not right now. He only saw her as a conniving, sneaky bitch looking for sympathy.
