Broken Deeds MC: Second Generation #1

He rushes out of the room with his hands in tiny fists right next to his body, swinging his arms as if he needs to add more speed.

“Don’t run down the stairs,” I yell after him and grab the coffee he brought me.

I make my way downstairs and stop in the doorway of the kitchen. Our two children are sitting across from each other. Archer places the syrup he heated in the microwave in the middle of the table. Both kids attack the syrup at the same time but Hunter is faster, leaving Queenie to grumble in frustration while Hunter sticks out his tongue.

“Patience,” Archer says and takes a sip of his coffee.

His eyes find mine and I get a warm smile. There are black circles underneath his eyes and the tiredness shows he didn’t get much sleep last night.

“Good morning.” I smile and place my coffee on the table, needing my hands free to ruffle Hunter’s hair while I place a kiss on Queenie’s head before I move toward Archer.

His hands are free when he grips my hips and pulls me close to plant a kiss on my lips as he murmurs, “Good morning, beautiful.”

  “We’re eating here,” Queenie mutters.

Archer chuckles against my lips. He leans his head slightly to the side to give Queenie a look. “As you should.”

Archer’s phone starts to ring but he ignores it since it isn’t the ringtone indicating it’s Wyatt; everything else can wait until we’ve finished breakfast as a family.

The ringing stops but mine starts right after. I reach for it but Archer takes it from me. “Oh, no you don’t. They found out years ago how they can try you to get shit done when I don’t answer. Come. Sit. Coffee.”

“Now that’s an order I don’t mind listening to,” I tell him and give him a wink as I take a seat and reach for my coffee.

Archer fixes himself and me a plate with a stack of pancakes. The smile on my face can’t be stolen by anyone as I glance around the table. How quickly your mood can change, from being grumpy to thankful in the blink of an eye.

It’s exactly the way life can throw things in your path when you least expect it. But it’s these moments–the calm within the storm–where you can sit back and release a deep breath and realize…life isn’t as bad and it’s exactly what you make of it.

You can either be pissed someone didn’t hang up a new roll of toilet paper, or take a moment to change it yourself and shrug it off because the anger and annoyance will only pile up inside you.

And to be honest? I’d rather wear a smile and deliberately leave the roll empty the next time I take the last piece of paper, knowing Archer needs to go next. Then I’ll hide all the new rolls. That’ll teach him to be more thoughtful about the little things next time. Yeah, life is all about teaching and learning lessons too.

Archer’s eyes hit mine and he shoots me a wink before shoving a forkful of pancake into his mouth. My heart squeezes from the everlasting love this man surrounds me with. My heart is right here in this room, at this table; in his eyes and in the blood of our children.

Never forget the will to live and the steps you can take to enjoy life the way you want to spend each day to the next. Because we sure do, and embrace every second of it.

Thank you for reading Archer and Bee’s story. Gaining exposure as an independent author relies mostly on word-of-mouth, so if you have the time and inclination, please consider leaving a short review wherever you can. Even a short message on social media would be greatly appreciated.
