  On her way home, she couldn’t fight back the tears as they began to roll down her face. She was so upset about how things turned out on the trip. She wanted Ramsey, and he had no interest in doing anything of that nature with her while there worked together. She sat in thought to herself, I know he feels something for me, but because of rules at work, he won’t peruse anything. Maybe I should find employment elsewhere; then he would give me a chance. Then she thought how silly that would be. Sidney cried the entire way home.

  When she finally arrived, it was about 10:30 pm. Sydney had begun unpacking her bags, and getting ready for work the next day. She thought how awkward this was going to make their working situation. Will he want to go on the road with me alone anymore? Will he try something or just completely avoid me all? Will he call off work for a few days to give himself time to think? Sidney had an array of questions flooding her mind.

  As she lay there in bed, she tossed and turned for hours. She couldn’t sleep; the situation kept playing through in her head as if it was a dream. She knew that was not the case here. This was a reality in its poor form. FML she said to herself. Just as she tried closing her eyes, she thought she heard something…

  It’s probably just the wind she thought to herself as she continued laying there in bed. Then a few moments later, she heard it again. She got out of bed, put on her robe, and walked into her living room. It was someone knocking at the door. Payge I am not in the mood, it is late, and I have to work in the morning. Sidney said, wondering if he was just trying to keep things cool not to bring too much attention to what happened last night. Ramsey then closed the door to the office they shared. At that moment, Sidney heard a familiar noise, but could not figure out where it was coming from; Ramsey looked at her puzzled. What is wrong Sidney? Oh, nothing she said as she was wondering if he could hear the same noise she heard. Suddenly she sprung up in bed, hot and sweaty. Whew, just another dream she thought as she looked at the clock and realized it was time to get ready for work. Was that whole thing just a dream? You have to be kidding me! They are beginning to feel so real I am starting to lose grip with reality. Am I going nuts? Sidney started thinking to herself. He has to think I am some whack job always to be daydreaming and staring aimlessly off into space. Sidney couldn’t figure out why this was still happening. I think it is time to think about finding a therapist.

  CHAPTER 7

  As Sidney got into work, she checked the log for the day. OMG, there is a whole day on the road with Ramsey! Sidney still hadn’t figured out of last evening events were just a dream or was it real. Sidney didn’t realize she had been thinking about Ramsey as she heard Good Morning Sidney come from behind her. When she turned, it was one of her co-workers. Hi there Roger. How are you doing? She asked, just trying to be polite. It's ok, dreading today after the big storm last night, we will all be out on the road today.

  Yea Sidney said after remembering it was raining when Ramsey came to her house. Does that mean it was real she thought to herself? She then quickly replied yes, but I slept like a log. Therefore, I guess I didn’t notice it that much. Luckily were all paired up, oh and Ramsey is out doing the final check on the truck for you guys to head out. OK, Sidney said back to Roger as he made his way out the door to get ready for the full docket ahead of them.

  Sidney was nervous to see Ramsey after not knowing if last night’s events were reality or just another dream. Sidney then heard another familiar voice call out to her. Edwardson in my office! Uh oh, it was Mr. Brodie, her boss, she wasn't sure what this could be about. She started thinking about anything she could have done to have him call her into his office; Sidney slowly crept into his office, yes, sir? I am going to need you and Kelly to pull some overtime today there are many lines down in Caribou, and we need to get this problem addressed fast! So no zoning out today! Yes Sir Mr. Brodie, she replied quickly. Ramsey has your paperwork so go ahead and leave now. Yes, sir, she replied, and she quickly got up and left his office. Sidney quickly geared up and went out to the dock where Ramsey was putting the last of the needed supplies into the truck.

  Good Morning! He said, smiling from ear to ear. How did you sleep? Sidney wondered if this was a loaded question. She wanted to ask Ramsey what happened last night, but out of fear of him thinking it was so bad she didn’t remember, she just smiled and replied like a log. He smiled again and replied couldn’t have gotten too much sleep with all the commotion he said getting into the truck. Again Sidney was stumped did this happen? For right now she couldn’t worry about it, she had to get some work done. The whole day went by and Ramsey seemed to be dropping little hints about last night, but Sidney pushed the thought to the back of her mind. It was going to be a long day and she didn’t have time to think about her dream.

  After 6 hours of working to restore power to the residents of Caribou, Ramsey looks at Sidney, we never got lunch, and I am getting hungry. Sidney looked at Ramsey yea; you are right I could use a bite to eat, she said. In reality, Sidney was famished since she didn’t eat breakfast that morning. Ramsey checked the time its 4 pm lets finish up with these lines and then get some dinner. My treat Ramsey said. Sidney looked up at Ramsey. Ok, she said as she handed him tools to repair quickly the line he was working on.

  30 minutes later, they get into the truck and Sidney looks up into the sky. Hey, it is getting dark again. I think your right Ramsey said, and we still have about five more hours of work ahead of us. Do you think you can hang in there, so we don’t have to postpone until tomorrow? I don't know Ramsey I am pretty hungry. Let me make you a deal you hang in there I will cook you dinner tonight. Maybe we can talk since we don’t know each other. Sidney was speechless, but was able to snap back with a reply Deal! Ramsey begins to drive to the next job when Sidney began to wonder what this meant. Was this a date? Were these just two friends having dinner? Alternatively, was this part 2 of last night? Sidney was so excited for dinner; she couldn’t wait.

  CHAPTER 8

  After five more hours of work, Ramsey and Sidney finally, get back to the office. Oh, my I am so tired Sidney exclaimed as she sat down at her desk. Hey, Sid, there is a note on your computer, Ramsey said, she looks up, and there was a note from Mr. Brodie

  “Thanks for all the hard work today! You and Ramsey get the hell out of here save your paperwork for in the morning! I hope that it wouldn’t be too late when you get back because tomorrow I need you both in by 7 am Mr. Brodi.

  I think I might have to take a rain check on dinner, she said to Ramsey handing him the note. 7 am is going to come early, and it is getting late, she looked at her desk clock, which read 9:15 pm. Well, I can still take you to get a quick bite! Are you sure? Yes, I am not that tired anyways and from the sounds of it, you need something to eat. Sidney’s face got a little red when she realized her stomach was growling loud. I guess that bag of chips we munched on wasn’t enough to tie me over.

  Let’s get some Chinese Ramsey said excitedly. If nothing else, Sidney knew Ramsey’s favorite was Chinese. He had every Chinese restaurant mapped out for 15 miles. Sure, Sidney said. However, are we going like this, as she looked down at her dirty work clothes? Ramsey looked at her you are adorable no matter what you are wearing Sid. Sidney again felt her face get warm, and she smiled and put her head down. She started thinking about last night and out of nowhere, she told Ramsey about last night… Before she could finish, Ramsey looked out to see someone standing at the doors to the electric company. It was Sidney’s friend Payge.

  Hey, Sid, there is someone at the door, I think it’s your friend. Sidney looked out and seen her waving frantically. Shoot she whispered to herself thinking she had almost had the courage to ask Ramsey about last night! This girl could mess up a wet dream; she muttered to herself as she walked towards the door to see what was up with Payge. Hey, girl where have you been I have been trying to call you all day Payge said. No service in Caribou she told her. Oh, yea the storm Payge said, remembering last night’s crazy rain storm.

  I was checking to see how everything was since I have not heard from you in a while. Sidney looked back at Ramsey packing his things getting ready to leave. Well, Payge I can’t talk right now Can I call you tomorrow after work. Ok, Payge said a little disappointed. I was going to see about having a little slumber party at your house tonight. I don’t know Payge Sydney hesitated. I have to be in super early today how about tomorrow I only have a meeting in the afternoon, and then I am free the rest of the day.

  OK, Payge said with a little more enthusiasm in her voice! Call me tonight, please. Ok, ok Sidney said as she hugged her best friend and walked back into the office. Is everything ok? Ramsey inquired. Yea, she was just checking up on me she said back to him as she packed up her stuff. Ready to go? He asked as he got the last of his things together. Yes, Sidney said! I am suddenly in the mood for something sweet and sour Ramsey said, flashing a sly smile at Sidney.

  As they finally got their food, Ramsey was so happy to be finally eating since they hadn’t eaten all day! So, Sidney what were you going to ask me earlier Ramsey said, remembering she was in the middle of a question before they left the office. Oh, nothing. Sidney told me she was too afraid to ask her question now, so she had to get his mind off it, so she started recalling the jobs they did and asked so do you think we are going to have a long day on the road tomor
row. Boy, I hope not. Ramsey replied. Then looked up to notice she seemed to be zoning out! Hey, back to earth Sidney! Ramsey said, Oh sorry Sidney replied. What is going on in that head of yours? Do you think about this weekend? Sidney looked puzzled completely have forgotten about it. No, not really, I just have a lot of stuff on my mind. Oh, that is right, it is the secret life of Sidney Edwardson going on over there huh? Sidney got a little upset by his comment.

  What do you mean by that she inquired? Well, you are always zoned out, and you never want to talk about what you are thinking. Ramsey replied. There is no need to be snippy. Sidney sat in her chair a little aggravated by Ramsey’s tone. I have a complicated life; forgive me for not pouring my soul to you. Sorry Sid, I just figured you would maybe open up a little after this weekend, but you have a wall up that I cannot seem to get over.

  Sidney looked puzzled and angry, why you would want to, she replied Ramsey stopped eating and looked at her. Maybe I just want to get to know about you. Sidney sat in her chair with her arms folded or maybe you just want to get in my pants, she thought to herself. She then began thinking of her relationship with John and how that was the only time he wanted to talk was when there was going to be sex involved afterward.

  She didn’t want another relationship like the one she had with John where there was nothing there but the same boring thing day in and day out. She didn’t want a relationship at all right now. She was content with the way her life was going; her freedom and her new place minus, of course, the dreams keeping her from getting a good night’s sleep.
