“Really?” She shook her head. “No. You would not have an actual wedding without your parents. You just wouldn’t.” Chris and Paige had moved to stand next to them.
Tom turned her around by her shoulders, so she was face to face with Kathleen and big Tom, who hugged her. Liz started shaking and laughing and looked around at the other guests, realizing suddenly they weren’t all players and their families. Just in her brief glance around, she saw Jason and Paul and several other of her close friends. She looked at Chris and Paige, standing with them as she had been expecting them to do Monday morning. Paige was smiling and looking a little teary, and Chris looked so happy.
She turned back to Tom, who had the biggest smile she had ever seen. And then she looked at Zee.
His eyes were twinkling as he asked, “Are you quite ready? Can we please get back to this? It’s my big moment here, Liz.”
She laughed, gestured to him, “Please, continue,” and snuggled under Tom’s arm, accepting that this surreal experience was actually happening.
Tom breathed in her hair and kissed the top of her head. They said their vows and exchanged rings.
Zee boldly said, “You may now kiss the bride!” and everyone cheered.
Tom turned to address the guests. “Please feel free to go, eat, drink, enjoy yourselves.” He looked down at Liz. “Because I’m about to kiss my wife, and this is gonna take a while.”
Liz heard big Tom start laughing and then was lost in kissing Micky.
