  “I can’t help it,” I sobbed.

The doorbell chose that moment to ring and I felt Eli tense beneath me.

“Naira, I ordered dinner on my way over. It’s probably the delivery guy.” I gave Eli props for the fact that he didn’t dump me and run for the door. He simply told me and waited for me to give him the go ahead.

Which he didn’t have to wait long for...

“Food?” I lifted my head and looked at him.

“Have you eaten today?” Eli glared at me when I shook my head. “Naira Kang, you have to eat.”

“I know… so go get the food.” I shooed him away and moved to lean against my headboard as I waited for him to return.

When he did, he was still looking unhappy.

“My stomach has been upset all day,” I admitted. “I just didn’t feel like eating. But now I’m starving.” I looked hopefully at the brown paper bag he held.

Eli sighed and climbed onto the bed and took a seat beside me.

I grinned at him as he began to fight against the staple that kept the bag closed.

“What you order?” I asked as I watched impatiently.

“Our favorite of course,” he grinned as the bag ripped and the scent of General Tso’s filled my room.

“Oh my God!” I clasped my hand over my mouth and jumped from the bed. I made it to the bathroom just as my stomach heaved. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, my stomach was empty. It didn’t stop my stomach from flipping and trying though.

“Naira,” – Eli kneeled beside me and brushed my hair back and pulled it up in a ponytail at my neck – “are you okay?”

  “My stomach,” I groaned.

Eli placed the back of his hand against my forehead and then leaned forward to press his lips to my chest right above my breasts.

“You don't feel hot, so I don’t think you have a fever,” he murmured in concern.

“Can you hold me?” I asked. Eli started to rise to his feet, and I tugged at his hand. “In here? I don’t trust my stomach yet.”

“Of course,” he replied and pulled me into his embrace as he leaned back against the edge of the tub.

I snuggled into his chest and inhaled his unique scent. The scent immediately settled into me and my stomach calmed.

“Close your eyes, Naira. I got you.” Eli murmured into the top of my head.

  CHAPTER NINETEEN

  Eli

“Naira,” I said softly as I knocked on the bathroom door, which she had locked. “Open up, please.”

“No. You can’t watch me–” The sound of her throwing up stopped her sentence. I felt helpless being locked out. I couldn’t rub her back and assure her that everything would be okay.

“You’ve been sick off and on for the past two weeks, beautiful,” I sighed and leaned against the wall across from the bathroom. My eyes were no longer on the door but were locked on the plastic bag in my hand. “I talked to some of the guys at work.”

“So?” she snapped, making me chuckle.

“I have a present for you.”

“What kind of present? Hope it’s not food. The smell of food makes me sick,” she rambled.

“No. Definitely not food,” I took a deep breath. “But I think it’s something you should use right now.”

The lock turned and slowly the bathroom door opened. Naira didn’t show her face, but her hand stuck out of the crack between the door and door jamb. I rolled my eyes at the fact she was trying to hide from me.

I pushed off the wall and opened the bathroom door so I could squeeze in.

“No!” Naira shouted before running over to the toilet and flushing it. She kept her back to me.

“Naira,” I whispered and rubbed her back. “You don’t have to hide. I’m here for you. Always.”

“What if you aren’t with me for long?” she sobbed.

“Why wouldn’t I be with you? We can get through anything,” I asked, turning her to where we were facing each other. She looked down, avoiding my gaze. I sighed heavily.

“Here, I think we need to do this,” I said, taking a step back. Naira watched as I opened the plastic bag and pulled out the contents– a slender box– inside it. Her eyes widened. She looked back and forth between the box and me.

“But, I don’t…” Her words drifted. She continued to stare at the box.

“It doesn’t hurt to take the test, Naira. With all your symptoms, I was worried and asked a few guys at work what could be wrong. They all said the same thing.”

I didn’t tell her how they called me a huge idiot for not figuring it out myself. Or how they slapped me on the back of the head and told me I better do right by Naira and the…

No, I shook my head. She hadn’t taken the test so there was no reason to even think about a baby. This test would just tell us whether we needed to go to the hospital or not.

“Do you think I am?” Naira whispered. I looked down at her. She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. I stroked her cheek and smiled.

“I guess we’ll find out soon enough,” I chuckled weakly. Naira rolled her eyes.

“Get out!” she pointed at the open doorway.

“Babe, I was just kidding. We will get through this.” I was in full panic mode. I had tried to be funny to ease the tension in the room. But instead, I had pissed her off and now she was kicking me out.

“Out, Eli Mattis,” she pointed again at the open doorway.

“Naira, please, don’t kick me –”

“I can’t pee on the damn thing with you watching.” She snatched the test from me and shoved me out the door.

  “Oh. Okay.”

She didn’t need to tell me again. I didn’t want to watch that, so I quickly walked out of the bathroom and closed the door behind me. I stood across from the door humming so I couldn’t hear her.

Several minutes went by. My anxiety was through the roof. I was no longer leaning against the wall. I was now pacing the hallway like a lunatic. If she didn’t open the door soon, I was going to bust through it like the Kool-Aid man.

The bathroom doorknob twisted. I stopped and turned my attention to it.

“Naira?” I called out. “You okay?”

“Yeah,” she whispered. I moved to stand in front of the door. She clearly wasn’t coming out.

“Do I get to know the result of our test?” I chuckled. Probably wasn’t the smartest thing, in the world, to try to make light of the matter; however, I was on pins and needles and felt like I was going to have a heart attack if she waited any longer.

The door slowly opened. Naira’s eyes were red. I could tell she had been crying and that she was on the verge of crying again. I quickly pulled her into my arms.

“Naira,” I whispered and kissed the top of her head. “Please, don’t cry.”

Her arms wrapped around my waist. She snuggled against my chest. I felt so helpless.

“Want to go lay in bed?” I asked softly. She nodded slowly. I bent down and picked her up in my arms and then slowly carried her to the room and laid her on the bed. I kicked off my boots, and then climbed in the bed next to her.

She immediately rolled towards me. She wrapped her arm around my waist and laid her head on my arm with her face buried in the crook of my neck.

“Want me to turn on the TV?” I asked, looking down at her. All I saw was the top of her head. She shook her head and I sighed. “Okay. Want me to get you some water? Or juice?” she shook her head again.

We sat in silence with me holding Naira for what seemed like eternity. I wanted to ask her again about the test. The way she was acting made me think the test was positive. But then, I remembered all our talks about having a child together and how we’d both be happy. So now I wondered if the test was negative and she was sad.

It was times like this, I wish I could be a mind reader.

Naira shifted and sat up. She looked down at me, but only briefly. She then looked up at the ceiling, and then the wall, and then finally back at me. She took several deep breaths
.

“Naira, I’m going to die of a heart attack, sweetheart. Say something. Anything. Please,” I begged. The silence was like torture.

“You’re going to be a dad,” she replied softly with a small, unsure, nervous smile.

“A d...d…” I stammered. Naira nodded her head and took a deep breath. “I’m going to be a dad?” I finally managed to ask.

“Yes,” she whispered. “I know this isn’t what you wanted right now. I’m so sorry, E–”

“What are you talking about?” I smiled. She looked at me confused. “This is the best day of my life. I’m going to be a dad!”

  CHAPTER TWENTY

  Naira

The day after Eli brought me the test, I called my doctor and went in to get the official word on whether or not I really was pregnant. They wanted me to have an ultrasound, but I refused until Eli arrived and we watched as they found the tiny heartbeat. Our baby.

Something changed for me at the sight of that tiny little blob of life.

Before we’d even left the doctor’s office, I had my cell out and called my office. Neil had called me back within seconds of my leaving the message with his secretary. He was not happy about my resignation, but he understood.

Eli had remained quiet the entire time I was on the phone.

“What’s wrong?” I finally asked when the silence became too much, and we’d been standing on the sidewalk without moving outside of the doctor’s office building for like ten minutes.

“Huh?” Eli looked down at me in confusion.

“Eli, you’ve been staring off into space,” I replied. “What are you thinking about?”

Nerves filled me as he shifted on his feet and reached for my hand.

“Naira…” Eli’s voice faded, and he stared at me strangely.

“Eli, you said we’d get through this… together, right?” I reminded him of his promise from the day before.

“Of course,” he snapped and shook off the strange mood that had taken hold of him. “We’re going to be parents, Naira. There’s a tiny life that’s depending on us.”

Grinning up at him, I went up on tiptoe and pressed a kiss to his chin.

“Yes, Eli. We’re going to be parents.”

“But you quit your job? You worked hard to be a lawyer,” Eli sighed. “I didn’t want you to give up what you wanted for… this… for me.”

“Ah, I see.” I laughed and buried my face in his chest as I inhaled his masculine scent – aftershave, sweat, and the smell of a hardworking man. “First off,” I began, “you will move in with me. My apartment is rent controlled. Second, I’ve always saved my money. Between scholarships and financial aid, I don’t owe anything for my education. So, I’m good for a bit. Third, we should see about getting me on your insurance before mine runs out. And, fourth, I’ve been thinking of quitting. It’s why I took the month off.”

“Oh…” Eli stared down at me and I went back up on my tiptoes.

  “Kiss me, Daddy,” I sassed.

“I should have known you would have everything already figured out,” Eli chuckled as he leaned his head down and pressed our lips together in a soft kiss.

When it started to heat up and my hands moved down to the hem of his t-shirt, Eli broke the kiss and took a step backward.

“Are you sure you want me to move in?” he asked reluctantly.

  “Yes, but if you don–”

El lifted me off of my feet with a woop and swung me around. My head spun and my stomach flipped.

“Eli!” I shouted as he immediately dropped me to my feet.

“Sorry,” he grinned at me. “Want to go home and celebrate?” He waggled his eyebrows at me, and joy bubbled up inside of me.

  “Sounds good,” I replied.

My fingers thrummed on the table as I sat and waited for my new roomie to get home from work. Eli had been able to transfer his lease to someone Sister Mary Agnes knew and moved in with me the same night I had asked him. It felt as if everything was falling into place… as if it was fate.

Whatever it was, all I knew is that I was about ready to go crazy waiting on Eli to get home. I hated the fact that he had to leave me in the morning and then didn’t get off until late. The delay from the storm was forcing his company to mandate long hours from their workers.

“But why the hell isn’t he here already?” I snapped and stood up to pace.

The key in the lock alerted me to Eli’s return and I quickly went to the door and slid the chain free. The second the door was open, I pulled Eli inside and dropped to my knees at his feet. My hands practically flew as I undid his belt and flicked open the button of his jeans. When I unzipped him, his cock popped free and I grinned wickedly as I lowered my head.

The taste of his skin coated my tongue as I bobbed up and down on his shaft several times before my need receded enough for me to suck him hard and allow him to fall from my lips. I grinned up at him.

  “Welcome home,” I rasped softly.

“Fuck,” Eli groaned and kicked the door closed.

The gasp from the hallway cut off before I could see who it was.

“Oops.” I grinned and noticed his outstretched arms holding two plastic bags.

“Ah, you stopped at the store,” I hummed as I reached for his cock again.

“And, the bakery,” Eli replied as he side-stepped my hand. It wasn’t easy for him since his jeans had been tugged down just past his ass and he waddled toward the kitchen. “Hold that thought, beautiful,” Eli added at my pout.

“I just need to put the ice cream away,” he called out from the kitchen.

“Ice cream?” I gasped and hopped up from the floor. “What kind?” I asked as I entered the kitchen.

“Strawberry.” Eli grinned at me. “I also have hot fudge and whipped cream…” He waggled his eyebrows at me seductively and I laughed.

“You should never do that again. You look ridiculous,” I laughed. I noticed a second bag on the counter. “What’s in that one?”

“Muffins for breakfast,” Eli mumbled as he held the bag in his hand open and reached in to pull out the ice cream. I watched in consternation as he began to put it in the freezer.

Did I want his cock or the ice cream?

  “Eli?”

“Yes, Naira.” He looked over his shoulder at me and waited with his hand in the freezer.

“Why you putting that away? Didn’t you buy it for me?” I fluttered my eyelashes at him, and he chuckled.

There was no reason I couldn’t have both, right?

“Naira,” Eli groaned. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Because I’m hungry,” I replied as I reached past him and grabbed the container of ice cream.

I set it on the counter as I dug in a drawer for a spoon. When I had the spoon, I flipped open the ice cream and scooped out a huge spoonful.

A moan slipped out of my mouth as the sweet, creamy treat melted on my tongue.

“You are such a good boyfriend,” I sighed as I reached for Eli’s cock which stood at attention past his open jeans.

“Naira,” Eli squeaked as my cold hand gripped his shaft and tugged for him to come closer.

Going to my knees I looked up at him from under my eyelashes – “Ice cream please?” I asked as I held out my empty spoon and slid my mouth over his warm, salty cock.

  CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

  Eli

Naira’s tongue was cold as she licked from the bottom of my cock up to the tip.

“Ice cream,” she reminded me, holding the spoon up to me.

Who the fuck cared about ice cream right now?

“Ice cream or nothing else, Eli,” she looked up at me and sucked the tip of my cock into her mouth.

“Fuck,” I growled as I watched her mouth bob up and down on my dick. I grabbed the spoon but nearly dropped it when she deep throated me. “Fuck!”

She slowly pulled her mouth off my cock. She looked up at me innocent-like.

  “Ice cream, Mr. Mattis.” My
balls tightened at the way she addressed me and the look she had in her eyes.

I quickly scooped a spoonful of ice cream and then handed her the spoon. She licked the ice cream teasingly as I watched her.

“I’m going to pick you up, bend your pretty little ass over the kitchen table, and fuck you senseless, if you keep teasing me, Naira,” I warned her.

The spoon disappeared into her mouth. When she pulled it back out, the ice cream was no longer on the spoon. She set the spoon on the counter and then licked her lips.

  “Delicious,” she grinned.

  “The ice cream?”

“No. Your huge cock.” Without warning, she deep throated every inch of my cock. The mixture of her cold tongue and warm mouth had my toes curling. Her throat tightened around the tip and she withdrew my cock out of her mouth. She breathed heavily.

“You okay, ba–” My question ceased as I growled, grunted, and moaned. Naira had taken me in her mouth and began sucking on my cock as though she needed it more than she needed air. “Fuck, baby.”

My head fell back, and my eyes closed. Naira’s mouth and tongue were taking me to a whole other level.

“Look at me, Eli,” Naira instructed. I opened my eyes and looked down at her. She smirked and then began sucking my cock again. Her eyes remained looking up at me the entire time.

“Naira,” I warned. “You’re making this fucking hard to let you have the control.”

“If you want it,” she flicked the tip of my cock with her tongue. “Then take it, Mr. Mattis.”

I grabbed her by her arms and pulled her up onto her feet.

“Eli,” she giggled, but when I bent her over the kitchen table, she was no longer giggling. She moaned as I lifted her dress with one hand and pushed her face down on the table with the other.

“You’ve been very naughty, Miss Kang.” I rubbed her ass.

  “I’m sorr–”

  Smack!

Naira let out a scream as my hand struck her ass. Her scream was followed by moans and whimpers.

“Are you really sorry for teasing me?” I asked, rubbing her ass where I had smacked it.

“No,” she gritted. “I’m not sorry at all.”

My naughty Naira, I chuckled to myself.
