Bride in Trouble

Phoebe laughed as she saw it and waved to her sisters, who waved back before Elliot winked at them and closed the door.

“What a wonderful evening,” she said with a sigh.

“And it’s not over yet.” Rafe carried her to the bed, turned, and fell backward so she landed on top of him.

She squealed, and he rolled so she was pinned beneath him, both of them tangled in the skirt of her gown.

“You smell of whisky,” she said, sinking her hands into his hair.

“That’s because I’ve been drinking whisky.” He kissed her.

“Mmm.” She put both hands on his chest and pushed him back a little. “Are you drunk?”

  “Nope. I’m… merry.”

She chuckled and smoothed her hands over his shoulders. He’d long ago lost the jacket and the bow tie. His hair was disheveled, and there was a hint of five o’clock shadow on his jaw.

  “You look amazing,” she said.

He stared at her, and then gave a short laugh. “If I look amazing, there isn’t a word in the dictionary to describe you.”

  “You like the dress?”

“I love the dress. I love what’s underneath it even more.” He tried to find the bottom of her gown to slide his hand beneath it, and failed.

She giggled at his impatient frown. “Don’t worry, you can take it off in a minute. I have a surprise for you underneath.”

“Ooh. Way to tempt a new husband.” He moved to the side, turning her to face him, kissed her for a while, then lifted his head and kissed her nose. “How are you feeling?”

  “I’m fine.”

“Not too tired? We have the rest of our lives together, you know.”

She shook her head. They’d spent the previous night apart as she’d stayed at her mother’s house with her two sisters, and just that one night without him had been almost more than she could bear.

“We’re off to Fiji tomorrow,” he reminded her. “I’m sure you could do with a good night’s sleep.”

Pushing up, she rose from the bed and stood in front of it. “You see what’s beneath this dress, and then you decide whether you want to sleep.” She turned and presented her back to him.

Rafe came to stand behind her, and slowly undid the hidden zip to the base of her spine. With a little sigh, she pushed the dress down, and it fell to the floor in a billow of silk.

She turned to face him, and was able to catch the look of desire on his face as he saw her underwear, complete with the garters and white stockings.

“You look amazing,” he whispered, tracing a finger across the lace that covered the top half of her breasts, which were propped up by the stiff corset.

  She shivered. “I love you.”

His gaze came up to meet hers, and he smiled. “I love you too.” His eyes took on a naughty glint. “Can you move in this thing? Because I totally want to do you in it.”

Her eyes widened. “Jeez. Mr. Romantic.”

“Hey, I’ll do you on top of the rose petals. How’s that for romance?”

Picking her up, he tossed her onto the bed, where she fell, bouncing on top of the teddy bear and sending rose petals flying. He lifted her dress up and laid it carefully over a chair, then began to undo his shirt buttons.

“Leave your clothes on,” she said. “You look like James Bond.”

He grinned, toed off his shoes, and climbed onto the bed. Pushing the teddy off, he moved on top of her and lowered himself down.

“Hello, Mrs. Masters,” he murmured, kissing her neck.

“Mmm. Hello, husband.” She slid her arms around him, then lifted her left hand behind his back. The moonlight glinted off her wedding band.

Rafe lifted his head, looked over his shoulder to see what she was doing, then smiled and brought his left hand across to hold hers. He turned her hand over and kissed the band.

“I’m kissing your ring,” he said. His eyes glinted. “Wouldn’t be the first time.”

  “Rafe! Oh my God.”

“In fact, I think I might kiss it again tonight.” Lifting up, he caught her arm and rolled her onto her front, then kissed down to her butt. She tried to roll back, but he pinned her down, sliding his hand up her stockings to her pretty panties and pulling the elastic out in an attempt to kiss her there.

The air filled with the sounds of their laughter, as the moon rose in the night sky, and a morepork hooted in the nearby pohutukawa tree, its cries mingling with the sounds of the sea.

  Book 2: Bride by Mistake

One photographer, one wedding dress, one bride by mistake…

When a scandal drives famous actress Fliss Rivers to the Bay of Islands, she only plans to stay a few days. She hasn’t seen her old schoolfriend in years and helping out in Roberta’s bridal shop is a welcome distraction from the intimate details of her life that are splashed all over the internet. But she knows at some point she’s going to have to go back to the real world.

When Dominic Goldsmith’s wife died, he swore he’d never love another woman. But that was two years ago, and even his seven-year-old daughter insists it’s time he started dating again. Oblivious to the celebrity gossip on the internet, Dominic remembers Fliss as the young girl who blushed when he stripped off his sweater on the cricket pitch. His role in the local community relies on his exemplary behaviour, but when passion flares between them, neither can say no to a secret fling.

Then a photographer catches Fliss modelling a wedding dress, and the press are convinced the two of them are tying the knot. Their relationship is no longer secret, and Fliss is convinced it means the end.

But Fate is beholden to no man, or woman. And love always finds a way…
