We all work the rest of the day in the kitchen. Blood comes in around dinner time and lets us know he’s ordering pizza for everyone. When he sees the sweet butts in the kitchen with us, and me laughing with Needa about Zoey and her craziness, he blinks a few times before smiling and nodding. All the sweet butts aren’t bad; they just want to feel as if they’re wanted and have the safety they crave.

I go back to work, putting the finishing touches on the cupcakes as Colt, Logan, Bounce, and Vanish walk in the kitchen. Vanish tries to take a cupcake from the table and I swat his hand away. He looks at me with a pout on his face and I laugh. Everyone in the kitchen laughs at him.

“I can’t have one cupcake?” he asks, making his voice sweet sounding.

“No. These are only for Thursday, they’re Blood’s favorite dessert my mom made,” I warn him, seeing Blood walk in the kitchen behind him.

“But Thursday is so far away,” he pretends to whine.

“It’s two days. I’m sure you can wait that long. You all can,” Tonya responds, wrapping her arms around her husband. “And you can take it up with your Pres about that particular dessert.”

“Vanish, you leave my cupcakes alone,” Blood finally says.

Vanish startles and we all laugh once more. He slinks away like a kid who’s had his favorite toy taken away from him. I shake my head and wrap myself around Colt who’s holding Zoey. The women and I begin to put everything up so no one touches it before Thursday. Blood, Logan, Colt, and Bounce help us out so we can get ready to eat dinner.

Today has been an amazing day and I’m happy I didn’t hide away in the house. The men and women of the club are really great. There wasn’t a single issue with the sweet butts working with us in the kitchen today either. We all had a great time and I hope I can become friends with Needa. She truly seems to need someone who has her back no matter what. It took her most of the day to come out of her shell and talk to us and joke around like the rest of us were. This is what I’ve been missing for so long; it’s what I’ve been craving and didn’t realize it until right now as I look around at everyone sitting around to eat pizza.

  Chapter Twenty-Four

  Colt Johns

EMERSYN AND ZOEY were still sleeping when I leave the house this morning. I have a few things to take care of and didn’t want her knowing I was leaving beforehand. The first thing I’m doing is picking up her car. Not just any car, but a car she’s wanted for a while from what she’s told me.

When we were younger, Em always liked the muscle cars. She didn’t want the princess convertible or something like that; she wanted something with power under her ass. Logan and I used to tease her about her obsession with the cars. Especially when we’d go to a car show in town and she’d be drooling over the cars. My girl was worse than any guy when it came to the type of car she likes. Even if she doesn’t know a thing about them.

This morning, Mom is upstairs in the apartment with my girls, Dad is in their home, and Levi and Breaker are hanging around outside. We’re still not taking any chances regardless of how Emersyn feels right now. She’s emotional, upset, worried, and ready to be free from the prison she’s in. I can’t blame her, but we’ll do whatever we have to so Zoey, her, and our baby are safe from slimy, pussy bitches like her ex.

Mom has an appointment in a little while, so the girls will be on their own, but the guys will be around the house. No one will get to them without killing these men. I’m just hoping we can get everything done before Emersyn has to go to work in a few hours. We’re opening a little earlier than normal for a bachelor party and all the girls have to go in. Vanish will be there with Logan so we need to get things done and get back to town in about an hour or two.

Logan is with me as we leave the house and make our way outside of town. The first thing I’m doing is getting a car for my girl. She needs her own transportation and I’m going to ensure she has it. Emersyn will throw a fit about me buying her a car, but she’ll get over it eventually. If not, I have my ways to persuade her for forgiveness. It involves skin-on-skin contact and me making her feel really good.

I’ve got Vanish following us with one of the two trucks. He’s going to take the car back to the clubhouse and the guys are going to put a tracker on it. She should definitely have it before leaving the house to take Zoey to Gloria’s and then going to work. It won’t take the guys long to put a few trackers on the car, in case something goes wrong with one of them. I’m not taking any damn chances when it comes to Emersyn and I’ll continue to say and prove it a million times a day.

Pulling up to the dealership, I see the car I’m buying my girl already sitting in front of the building. I actually bought it the day I got my truck, but I wanted them to upgrade the sound system and things in it because Em likes to rock out when she doesn’t have Zoey in the car with her. She’s like my mom in that regard. I’ll make it happen for her too.

The car I bought Emersyn is a brand-new Dodge Charger. It’s got plenty of room for the car seats to fit in and my girl can rock out when she’s alone or it’s just us. She deserves something good in her life and I want to be the one to provide it. Her Charger is black with black interior. If I could’ve found purple for the interior, I would have. It’s her favorite color and I’ll have to get the seat covers or something for her.

Carmen, the dealer I’ve been working with walks outside and I watch as Logan’s jaw hits the ground. She’s a stunning woman and right up my brother’s alley as far as what he likes in a woman goes. But she’s happily married, and he doesn’t stand a chance in hell with her.

“Colt, it’s good to see you again,” she says when our bikes are shut off.

“You too, Carmen,” I respond, shaking her hand before walking over to the car. “Everythin’ done the way I want it?”

“Everything is ready to go,” she informs me, handing me a set of keys and the paperwork I need. “Will you be taking it for a drive before you leave to make sure?”

“No. We need to get it loaded and get it back. If I find anythin’ I’ll call you about it,” I tell her.

Vanish pulls the flat bed around and lines it up with the car. I get in and pull the car up the ramp so we can get it locked in place. The three of us make quick work as Vanish raises the bed, I get out of the car, and we strap it down. As soon as we know it’s secure, I thank Carmen again and we get on our bikes to head home.

When Vanish pulls off at the clubhouse, Logan and I continue our ride. We head past Mom and Dad’s house and stop our bikes in a driveway two doors down from them. One of the Christmas gifts I’m giving to Emersyn is a home for us. She’s always wanted a home of her own where she could decorate it the way she wants and take a house and fill it with love, babies, and a place for her family to spend their time together.

This house is huge. It’s a five-bedroom house with a large backyard. There is a pool in the back, a finished basement, and an office. The realtor, Megan, is here already and waiting for us. Logan and I shut the bike off before we head in her direction. Honestly, I’m impatient to see the inside of the house. On the outside it’s stone with black shutters. Something Emersyn always wanted.

Megan leads us in the house after unlocking the front door. There’s a small front porch with railings around it. It will be perfect for Emersyn to hang her plants from in the summer. Walking inside, the living room opens right up to the kitchen. All brand-new appliances fill the room. There’s an island in the middle of the room and room for a table for us to sit at too. A fireplace is in the living room with bookshelves built into one of the walls.

A laundry room, the office, a bathroom, and a spare bedroom fill the rest of the downstairs. Logan follows me upstairs as I take in several doors all standing open. The first one is a room with a closet and window facing the side yard. We walk through each room until we hit the master bedroom. It’s huge, with a walk-in closet, and en suite bathroom. The shower in the master bathroom is large enough to fit six people with a bench along the back of it. I ca
n see multiple shower heads and I’m already imagining taking my woman in this shower. And the tub that sits next to the shower. It’s big enough for at least three people with jets. I’ll buy this house just for this room; not the fact that it’s basically Emersyn’s dream house.

“I want to see the backyard,” I tell Megan as we make our way back downstairs.

“Absolutely. There’s a patio door off the kitchen,” she informs us.

I head straight for it and my breath catches. Besides the pool, there’s already a wooden playset in the yard and a gazebo. The seats in the gazebo are wider than normal and I can picture my girl sitting out here reading or watching over our children as they play. The only thing I’m going to have to do is put a fence up around the inground pool because I’m not taking any chances with our kids falling in there.

“This is perfect,” Logan tells me, looking at everything.

“It really is,” I answer him. “Do you think she’ll like it?”

“No,” he says. “She’ll fuckin’ love it. This is her dream house, brother.”

“I thought so,” I tell him, turning toward Megan. “I want it. Make it happen as soon as you possibly can and there will be a bonus in it for you.”

“Well, the selling price is . . .,” she begins to tell me.

“I don’t give a shit what the sellin’ price is. Here’s what I’m offerin’. Cash,” I tell her.

Megan’s eyes light up at the prospect of a cash offer on a house I know has been sitting empty for almost a year. I have no clue why someone hasn’t scooped this house up yet, but I’m not going to question it because I want it and I don’t care what I have to do to get it. Nothing is too much for my girl.

My phone vibrates in my pocket. Pulling it out, I see Vanish has messaged me.

Vanish: Car’s ready to go. Meet you at the house with it now.

Me: On our way there. Two minutes tops.

Sliding my phone back in my pocket, I turn to Megan again.

“I want an answer by the end of the day. Make this happen for me,” I tell her, turning and walking out of the house.

Logan follows me and has a smile on his face as we straddle our bikes. I shake my head at him because he’s still in his ‘I want a variety of pussy and I’m never gonna settle down’ phase. I’m going to enjoy fucking with him when he finds his one and only. He will and he’s going to fucking fall hard. It’s just who my brother is.

Turning our bikes on, we head for Mom and Dad’s house. Parking our bikes out of the way, I run up to get Emersyn while Logan gets my dad. He knows what’s about to happen and told me he better be out here to see her face.

“Emersyn!” I call out, opening the door. “Where are you, angel?”

“In the bedroom,” comes her muffled voice.

Walking in the bedroom, I see my girls on the bed. Emersyn is playing with Zoey while she laughs and kicks her feet in pure enjoyment. I stand still for a minute and just take in the scene before me; I’ll never get tired of watching my girls together when Em lets her guard down completely. She’s the perfect mix of pure innocence and a world hardened woman. My angel in disguise.

“What’s going on?” she asks, looking up at me with a smile on her beautiful face.

“I need you to come outside with me for a second,” I inform her, my excitement ramping up.

“Okay,” she says, drawing out the word.

I pick Zoey up and she cuddles into my chest. This is my baby girl; my Princess and she knows it. Emersyn follows me outside, and I stop her before we round the corner of the garage. My dad, Logan, Vanish, Breaker, Levi, and Bounce with Sydney and Briar are all standing there waiting for her to see her new car.

“Come here, darlin’,” my dad says, holding out his arm for her.

She steps in front of me and I know the second she sees the car. Emersyn stops in her tracks and doesn’t move a muscle in her body. She’s standing rigid and as I stop next to her, her face is filled with shock and tears slowly slide down her checks.

“What’s this?” she asks, covering her mouth.

“It’s your new car, angel,” I tell her, as Vanish holds out the keys.

“What do you mean? I didn’t buy a car,” she responds, afraid to take the keys from him.

“I did, angel. You deserve it. Go on, take the keys and look inside,” I urge her.

“Why?” she asks, turning her full attention on me.

“Because I wanted to. I got it the day I bought my truck. They just did some upgrades and things for you before I picked it up this mornin’,” I respond to her. “Go get in and take it for a spin.”

“Will you come with me?” she asks, her voice low.

“Yeah. Dad, will you watch Zoey for a few minutes? I want her to check out the stereo system and it will hurt the little Princess’s ears,” I ask him.

“Of course, I will,” he responds, walking over to get his grandbaby.

Emersyn gets behind the wheel as I climb in the passenger’s seat. She turns the car on after taking several minutes to check everything out, including the car seat in the back seat already. Tears fill her eyes and she takes a minute to get herself back under control. As soon as she’s ready, Emersyn pulls me in for a kiss and then starts the car.

We roll down the windows and she connects her phone via Bluetooth before leaving the driveway. She puts Hear Me Now by Bad Wolves on as she pulls out of the driveway. When we’re away from the house, I crank the stereo and she looks at me for a minute before laughing. Emersyn is completely happy and free in this moment as she drives down the road.

She heads toward town and gets to Legacies. I point to the parking lot as she pulls in to turn around and head back home. It’s not a long drive, but she needs to get ready to go to work and I have to head to the clubhouse. Charlie is going to be with her tonight because I have to help the guys get ready to leave for the run once we’re done eating Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. We’re eating early so they can get on the road just after dark.

“Do you like it?” I ask her, completely unsure of myself right now.

“I freaking love it! Thank you, Colt,” she answers, pulling back in the driveway and turning the radio down.

We put the windows up and she turns the car off so we can get out. The men are looking at the car in awe. Breaker wants to know about the stereo. He’s been looking to upgrade the system in his truck, and I think he just fell in love with Emersyn’s. She takes Zoey from my dad and heads upstairs while I stand with the guys as they go over the car.

“You goin’ to get ready?” I ask her.

“Yeah. I have to leave in about a half hour. Gonna take a quick shower and change,” she answers, leaving us to our guy talk.

I watch her walk away from us and pull my phone out. Messaging Charlie, I let him know to be here in twenty minutes or so. My goal is to talk to him before the rest of us head to the clubhouse.

As we look over the car, I hear music playing through the open windows in the apartment. We won’t be able to have them open much longer as there’s already a chill in the air. Honestly, I’m surprised it’s not colder and we don’t have snow on the ground. A Charger isn’t the most practical car for snow, but it’s what she wants. I plan on buying her an SUV for the wintertime, but I need to ease her into it.

Before I know it, Charlie is here, and Emersyn is coming down the stairs with Zoey. She’s wearing a pair of sweats and one of my tank tops. I can see her sports bra underneath it and I want to cover her body. The only reason I don’t object is because I know she’s only going to work, and she dresses like this when she heads there.

The guys all turn their heads, so I don’t see them looking at her. She walks directly over to me and wraps her arm around me. I bend down to kiss her. Em deepens the kiss and I’m instantly hard as fuck. I moan into her mouth. We kiss until a little hand slaps against my cheek.

I look down and see a sweet smile on Zoey’s face. She wants her loving and is letting us know it. Taking her from Emers
yn’s arms, I hold her close and blow raspberries on her little cheeks. She laughs and the sound warms me. I always want her to stay this small and never get older. That’s not reality; I know this. But, she’s so special and loves us all already.

“I have to go,” Emersyn says.

“I know,” I respond, walking over to the car with her.

Putting Zoey in, I’m suddenly hit with a bad feeling in my gut. I look around the yard and down the road as I strap Zoey in her seat. No one is there though.

“Be careful and let me know the second you get to Legacies,” I tell Emersyn, trying to keep the warning out of my voice. I don’t want her to panic.

“I will, babe,” she tells me, turning on the car.

I pull her in for one last kiss as the rest of the guys straddle their bikes and wait for me. Breaking the kiss, I stare at her. It feels as if I’m trying to memorize every single detail about her because I won’t see her again. I know it’s crazy, but I don’t know what this feeling is.

“Charlie, don’t fuck up. You protect my family as if they were your own,” I tell him, making sure he understands how serious I am.

The fucker has the balls to roll his eyes at me. I’m not playing around here. If anything happens to Emersyn or Zoey, I’ll fucking kill him.

Turning to my dad, I let him know I have a bad feeling.

“What do you want to do?” he asks me.

“I don’t know. We have work to do and Emersyn will be workin’. Can we send a guy to watch over Zoey at Gloria’s?” I ask him, not sure what direction to go in here.

“Yeah. I’ll send Levi over. Vanish is at Legacies. Call him when we get to the clubhouse and make sure he watches over our girl,” my dad tells me.

Nodding my head, we all pull out. Emersyn heads in the opposite direction to go to Gloria’s house. Charlie is following her and I’m even more uneasy about that than I should be. The farther away from me Emersyn gets, the worse the feeling in my stomach gets. I’m ready to turn around and go after her when my dad rolls out toward the driveway for the clubhouse. I’m glad it’s so close to the house.
