This was a bad idea, I just hadn’t realized how bad an idea it had been.
Instead of answering, because there was nothing I could say, and no way I could ever go back with this guy after hearing that comment, I ran out into the street and flagged down the first available cab passing by. I jumped in as fast as I could, leaving him cursing and waving his arms.
Good riddance, I thought, leaning back against the seat and closing my eyes to stop the tears. Thank God I never gave him my phone number or address.
I pulled my phone from my bag, dialing Tammy. I needed my bestie more than anything at the moment. I was still too much in shock over what Tony had said, and everything it had implied.
“Hey, it’s me.” I tried to keep my voice light when she answered. “Is there still a vacant seat open for tomorrow?”
“Yeah! You’re coming?”
“I’m coming.” Then I added, not quite as an afterthought…
“Alone.”
