111 Dela Mere wrote to Dorothy Collins on 18 June that he was fairly certain’ that the original verses, as opposed to the copy he had obtained, began Knight of the Holy Ghost’ not Knight of the Holy Grail’. He had written to the Edinburgh University Students’ Union asking for a copy of the review’ in which they had originally appeared. He wished the lines were a hundred times better’, but he would indeed be delighted if Mrs Chesterton would make any use of them she cares to’ (BL Add. MS 73195, fo. 24). According to Ward, GKC 552, who heard it from Dom Ignatius Rice, who heard it from a nun, the lines had been written ‘for a paper run by [Chesterton’s] supporters for the Lord Rectorship of Glasgow University’.
