“All right,” said Tiffany, hooking her arm through Jill’s as they lined up as if they’d done this a thousand times. The photographer let herself in discretely through the door and alerted the attendants, and then the doors opened.

“Showtime,” said Robin, winking down at her and back at Elizabeth and Heather as the strains of music began.

They all walked sedately down the aisle, Andee grinning her head off, the pop and flash of the photographer’s camera following them down the aisle. In one smooth motion, everyone stood, and then there were Elizabeth and Heather, moving down the aisle as if they were floating, leaning against one another, hands clasped so tightly as if they’d never let go.

“Dearly beloved,” said Merryweather then, resplendent in a royal purple dress, her long, white hair flowing down her back. “Isn’t that a beautiful phrase?” she asked everyone as they sat down, as they watched Elizabeth and Heather, two of the most in love people everyone had ever known, hold hands before them, staring into one another’s eyes. Tears leaked down Elizabeth’s face, but due to the miraculousness of Tiffany’s makeup skills, her makeup remained intact. “Dearly beloved,” repeated Merryweather, holding up her hands. “We are gathered here, today, to celebrate two beautiful women, two beautiful women in love. What’s more wonderful than that?”

Everyone in the room cheered as Robin squeezed Andee’s hand, as Andee breathed out, as her heart soared.

“Living a life of love, loving one another, is the greatest truth we can know in our few years on this little planet,” said Merryweather, gazing from Elizabeth to Heather. Andee felt the tears trickle down her face. Happy tears, this time. “So live and love well, my dears.”

  They would.
