  ‘Pretty accurate in my opinion. I’d even go so far as to say was spot on.’

  Kate looked at Emily and couldn’t help but smile. They were useless. Utterly, utterly useless. She laughed. It was a full body experience, really. She’d been holding in so many emotions it felt so good to just release them. Her entire body relaxed. Finally. Relief. Somewhere along the way Emily had joined her.

  ‘It sounds like a bad joke when you put it that way.’

  ‘It was a bit of one, wasn’t it?

  ‘One I’m not keen on repeating.’

  ‘No. I’m not keen either.’

  ‘So, what do we do now? Now that everything’s on the table, where do we go from here?’

  ‘I was rather hoping I could take you out on a proper sort of date. If you’d like that.’

  ‘I think I could be convinced,’ said Emily, her voice teasing.

  ‘And how should I do that?’

  ‘You’re a smart girl,’ said Emily, ‘I’m sure you could figure it out.’

  Yeah, thought Kate, I think I may just have an idea. She leaned over and kissed Emily and Kate had never been religious, but she was pretty sure this was as close to heaven as she’d get. God, thought Kate, I could get used to this.
