  Epilogue

  The bride beamed as she turned to face the gathering, her new husband on her arm. Lance looked up at Jade, gorgeous in her deep green bridesmaid dress, and winked as the organist began to play. Jillian and Grant’s wedding was the town’s union between the proverbial prom king and queen, the pier and surrounding area filled with guests.

  He watched as Mitch, Brogan, Aiden, Zac, and Callan, standing up with Grant, paired off with Tori, Katelyn, Jade, Ginny, and Belle as they walked down the aisle, following the newlyweds. A sense of pride moved over him, knowing he allowed himself to call them friends…and be one in return.

  Later, swaying back and forth on the dance floor, Jade in his arms, he looked at the crowd, now recognizing most of the people he saw. As their eyes caught his, they nodded and smiled, a few patting him on the back as they walked by. He waited to see if the old feelings of nervousness would settle in his stomach, but it appeared they had abated for good.

  “Hey,” Jade’s soft voice sounded, capturing his attention. Her eyes, even more green with the dress she wore, twinkled. “Are you okay?”

  Looking down, he said truthfully, “I’m great.”

  “The wedding was perfect and Jillian was so beautiful.”

  Nodding, he added, “It was and she was, but for me, I only had eyes for you.” She laughed and the sound was sweet to his ears.

  Quietly, letting the music flow through them, they held each other tight.

  Six months later

  Bright sunlight streamed through the window where the sea glass mosaic was hanging, creating a brilliant burst of color. The small gathering was awed by the beautiful pieces of art surrounding them, but the creator’s eyes were on the back of the room. Lance’s attention was held by the woman rounding the top of the stairs. Her long, ivory dress, stunning in its simplicity, flowed behind her. Her dark hair, pulled away from her face as the tresses waved down her back, held a light veil.

  Jade, her hand on her father’s arm, searched for Lance, her eyes finding him standing in front of their mosaic, creating a halo of color behind his head. Her smile widened as she walked toward him, barely noticing when her father kissed her cheek formally before moving to sit next to her mother.

  Her parents sat across the aisle from Lance’s parents, both sets deciding to attend the wedding. She and Lance had simply ignored their parents’ initial protestations over the engagement and then rolled their eyes when their parents approved upon discovering they were marrying into a family with money.

  More important than their parents, were their friends gathered for the nuptials. Turning to Jade, Lance took her hands, smiling into her upturned face. After the formal vows and the minister pronounced them husband and wife, he leaned in to whisper, “Thank you for picking up my pieces, Jade.”

  As the gathering faded into the background, he kissed her, his arms winding around her body, pulling her in close.

  Their friends began to clap, the sea glass mosaic casting its glow…and magic, over the kissing couple.
