  Then I noticed the look on her face. And the smile she was smiling. And in that moment I stopped mentally cursing the smoke and the carpet and the steaks and the fire juice. None of it really mattered. Not when Cherry was smiling the way she was smiling.

  It wasn't like that other one, the quavering, down-at-the ends smile. No, this was a real, warm, wonderful smile. But the words were the same:
