Fighting For It

“I love when you talk writer to me,” Jackson chuckled as he leaned down and kissed me.

Maybe bringing out the dictionary wouldn’t be such a bad thing if I get kisses.

“God, why do I feel like I am hung over?” I whined as I laid my head on my desk at work.

I had been at work for all of an hour and I was already wishing I was back in bed with Jackson. Not that he was at home in bed, he was at work, training a little bit before tonight’s home game. But damn, it would have been a nice option right about now.

“I don’t know. Too much amazing sex with your baseball boyfriend, perhaps?” Alex winked at me as she kept her voice low.

“Oh yes, Alex. I got drunk off sex…because that’s a thing you know,” I mumbled.

“Walker!” Damien, our editor, called out from his office.

I sat up quickly, acting as though I hadn’t been complaining. Looking over at his office, he was waving me in. Fuck, I was going to get in trouble. I took a drink of my Caribou Coffee that I had gotten this morning and made my way into his office.

“What’s up, boss?” I asked casually.

“I assume you had a good day off. You rarely ever take those, so I am sure it was for something relaxing.”

Relaxing most of the time, a work out for those other moments.

“Yes, sir. Very relaxing. I am happy to be back though and get back in the swing of things.”

“Perfect. We are going to be doing a joint story with sports. This week is the Minnesota Twins’ hope week. It is a week where they do charitable events to give back to the community. The players are involved as are their spouses and the staff of the team and the field. I want you to write it up for us but that will require that you go down to the field for some interviews. Why don’t you take Alexandria with you so that you two can divide and conquer?”

My eyebrows shot up in surprise, “Thank you, Damien. We will head out right away and get to work on this article.”

He dismissed me with a wave and I sped walked back to Alexandria.

“What did Dami-monster want now?” She rolled her eyes.

Most days we weren’t huge fans of Damien’s. But today, I could have kissed him for telling me to essentially go see my boyfriend.

“Grab your press badge, we are going on a field trip.”

She excitedly stood up after she logged out of her computer, “Where are we going?”

  “Target Field.”

“He actually told you to go see your boyfriend?”

I shushed her quickly, “Nobody here knows that Jackson and I are a thing except for you, Tammy, and Meredith. So because of that, we are keeping this information on the DL. This week is Hope Week for the team and other members of the sport and Damien wants us to cover what they have planned. It is just an added bonus that Jackson so happens to be my boyfriend and will be there.”

“Of course…added bonus,” she teased as we walked to the elevator.

My body practically hummed with excitement. Target Field was a quick drive from Saint Paul, and if traffic allowed it, I would be seeing Jackson sooner than I thought.

“If you two will just wait right here, someone will be over to escort you in just a moment,” a pleasant woman by the name of Pam instructed us.

The interview portion with her went better than I thought. Since it wasn’t just the players who were giving back to the community, but everyone involved with the Minnesota Twins, we were supposed to get feedback and information from as many people as we could. Shortly after she left our sides, a younger man approached us wearing a Minnesota Twins t-shirt, baseball cap, and red basketball shorts.

“You two here from the Pioneer Press?” He asked.

  We nodded, “Yep, that’s us.”

“Cool. I’m Brad and while I don’t exactly play the game with the guys, I do a lot of their running back and forth.”

“So…like a bat boy?” Alexandria questioned.

“Glorified bat boy,” Brad was quick to respond.

“Okay, Brad. Well we just need to get a few interviews from the players and we should be all good with our article,” I said as I opened up my notebook to a fresh page as to say let’s get moving.

He turned around and signaled for us to follow him. Before we knew it, we were out on the field. Players were zipping by left and right as they jogged around in regular workout clothes. Of course trying to pick Jackson out of the group couldn’t have been made easy for me.

  “Madeline?”

I spun around, ignoring whatever Brad was saying. It was something along the lines of ‘don’t interrupt the players until they are done with this set’. That was easier said than done when Jackson stood a few feet away from me looking as sexy as ever in a tight shirt and basketball shorts, his muscles on his arms glistening with sweat.

“Hey Jackson,” I smiled shyly as a blush crept over my cheeks.

“What are you doin’ here?” He closed the distance between us.

I held up my notebook and press pass, “Doing an article on Hope Week. My boss sent me and Alex down to get some interviews.”

Uncaring about those who saw us, Jackson snaked his arms around my waist and held me close, “You know you probably could have just called me and went from there.”

“And miss out on the chance to see you? Are you kidding me? You won’t be home when I get off of work because you’re going to be here for batting practice. Do you not want me here?”

“Of course I want you here. Maybe I should write your boss a personal thank you note for lettin’ you come see me.”

“Or you could just show me your appreciation right now,” I smiled and puckered my lips for him.

Jackson took full advantage of my request and kissed me deeply. Some of his teammates whistled and cat-called but we didn’t care, we were too wrapped up in each other and our kiss. As Jackson’s tongue slowly began to massage mine, he abruptly pulled back. I looked at him confused before I saw Owen standing behind him with a hand on his shoulder.

  “That’s enough, kids,” he scolded.

“Come on, Owen,” I whined, “I won’t get to see him tonight until after your guys’ game.”

“I thought you got her and Shelby tickets,” Owen came around and stood next to us.

Jackson rolled his eyes, “I was gettin’ to that but thank you for spoilin’ it.”

“Wait…you got me a ticket to come see your game tonight?”

“Yeah, there were some pretty good seats left behind home plate and so this mornin’ I bought you and Shel a ticket.”

That was something I didn’t know. Apparently, baseball players still had to pay for tickets for family and/or friends to go. Jackson assured me that they were at a discounted price, so he didn’t pay as much as I thought. Minnesota Twins tickets, for really good seats, weren’t exactly cheap and I knew that. So, when he said he got them on a discount, I felt a little better about how he was spending money for me to come to his game. I kissed his lips softly before hugging him. Even though I wouldn’t necessarily see Jackson until he was all done with his game, I was still excited to watch him play.

“You are the best boyfriend ever,” I grinned, kissing him once more.

Owen forced us to stop again. He was really starting to piss me off.

“Hey, Maddie, how do you want to do—oh hello,” Alexandria stopped right next to Owen, her eyes widening like saucers.

Oh, this was gonna get good. Distract Owen with Alex and he won’t be able to interrupt me and my boyfriend kissing.

“Alex, this is Owen. Owen, this is my friend Alex,” I said matter-of-factly.

Owen nodded as his eyes fixated on Alex. Jackson must have noticed their reaction to one another too because he quickly tugged me in the direction of the dug outs. Once we were hidden away as much as we could be, our kiss picked right back up. It was like I needed his kisses in order to live. That I needed Jackson close to me or I didn’t know who the fuck I was.

  “Okay, let’s get this int
erview going,” I ordered as our kiss came to an end.

Time for work when all I wanted to do was play…

The game had ended with a win for the Minnesota Twins. When I had gotten to Jackson’s house after work he had laid one of his jerseys that he wasn’t going to be wearing out on the bed with a note telling me to wear it. His mouth dropped open slightly when he saw that I did indeed wear it but left it unbuttoned in the front with a tank top underneath, my strapless push up bra made my breasts look amazing. It was a good thing that it didn’t distract him too much from playing the game.

Now here I was, sitting in his bed and staring at the clock. It was almost eleven at night and he had texted me that he was on his way home. That was when I had the perfect idea. I quickly stripped out of all of my clothes, only putting on his jersey once more. I buttoned the middle button and thanked the makers of this jersey for it being so long on me. Shelby had gone out with a few of her friends that she had up here and that meant that Jackson and I had the whole house to ourselves for a couple hours.

The front door closed, and I could hear Jackson talking to somebody. I crept out of the bedroom and looked over the railing that looked into the foyer on one side and the living room on the other. He was holding up his phone to one ear as he set his bag down on the ground and kicked off his shoes. As he spun around to start walking to the stairs, I darted back into the bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed. When he walked into the bedroom, I had to fight back pouncing on him right then and there.

“Yeah, it was a great game. But it is only one of three so hopefully we can keep the momentum goin’,” he said to whomever was on the phone.

I smirked to myself as I stood up from the bed and kept a few feet between me and Jackson. He stayed stock still as he kept his eyes focused one, the person on the phone responding to him. Licking my lips, I undid the middle button of the jersey I was wearing and let it fall open. Jackson bit down hard on his bottom lip.

“Look, dad. I gotta call you back. Yep, tomorrow, bye.” He quickly hung up and tossed the phone onto the chair that sat nearby.

“How long have you been waitin’ for me like that?” He asked, a sexy husk to his voice.

I took an innocently small step towards him, “Too damn long if you ask me.”

Jackson groaned as he rushed over to me and pulled me into his arms, kissing me deeply. This was definitely one of the things that I had missed since I left Target Field this afternoon. I didn’t exactly have a chance to see him before and after the game which sucked. But now, I had Jackson all to myself for the rest of the evening. Breaking our kiss, I pulled Jackson’s shirt off, lazily letting it fall to the floor. As I kissed his chest, I unbuttoned the top button of the khaki shorts he was wearing before lowering the zipper. Jackson eagerly pushed his pants and boxers to the floor, kicking them off to the side.

He hooked his hands on the backs of my thighs and lifted me up into his arms, my legs wrapping around his waist as my arms took their place around his neck. Our lips brushed against one another as Jackson easily crawled up on the bed with me still in his arms. He carefully laid me down and wasted no time thrusting his cock into me hard. I groaned at the fullness as my back arched, pushing my breasts against his chest.

“This is where I have wanted to be all day,” Jackson grunted as he continued to thrust into me quickly.

“In bed?” I teased as I tangled my fingers in his hair.

“No, buried deep inside of you,” he grinned as he kissed me deeply.

I moaned as he began to push harder into me. Using some energy that I didn’t know that I had, I rolled us over so that I sat astride him. Jackson’s hands immediately went to my hips as I sat up straight.

“I’m getting a little hot in this thing,” I laughed as I slipped off the jersey that I had never taken off.

“I’d say you are more than hot,” Jackson responded as his hands skimmed up from my hips to my breasts.

My hands covered his as I began to rock myself up and down his length. My head tipped back as my mouth fell open, letting loud moans flow freely from my lips. As my orgasm drew closer and closer with every thrust, I released his hands and put mine on either side of his head as I began to ride him harder and faster than before.

“Jackson…this feels so amazing,” I moaned as I locked eyes with him.

“Madeline, don’t stop…I’m goin’ to come,” he groaned, his hands falling to my sides as his fingers dug into my flesh.

Following his orders, I didn’t stop, I only went harder and faster. My fingers bunched the sheets in my hands by his head as my orgasm pounded into me like a hammer against a nail.

“Oh, fuck…Jack!” I screamed out as I felt my body quiver, my release twenty times more intense than before.

“Yes, Maddie!” Jackson called as he lifted his hips, thrusting into me from below as he emptied his release into me.

I fell forward against his chest, my head resting on his collarbone while my eyes refused to open. Fireworks were still exploding behind my eyelids as my head felt light and airy. There was barely time to register that Jackson had moved below me before his fingers dragged slowly up and down my back.

“Mm, I like that,” I hummed as I nuzzled my face against his skin a little more.

“I like the way your skin feels against mine,” Jackson’s deep voice vibrated against my ear.

I sighed contentedly and smiled. There was never a place that I felt more at home than in Jackson’s arms. It was hard to believe that I had sort of been mentally denying myself of the fact that I was falling in love with this man. Sure, we had only been together for just over a week. But time didn’t matter if you knew what you felt.

“Madeline…I can be honest with you, right?” Jackson asked hesitantly.

Shit, now that made me worried. “Of course you can, Jackson. Just as I can always be honest with you.”

He let out a sigh and his fingers momentarily stopped moving on my back. Yep, this was definitely not good.

“I—I think I’m fallin’ in love with you.”

Wait, that really just came out of him? It took me a second to process that he really just said that.

“You are?” I asked, lifting my head so that I could gaze down at him.

He had a small smile on his lips, “Yeah, I really am.”

I ran my hand through his hair as a shy smile pulled at the corners of my mouth, “Good. Because I think I’m falling in love with you too.”

“Oh thank god,” Jackson let out a long breath of air and leaned up, pressing his lips against mine.

After what felt like an eternity, I crawled off of Jackson before going into the bathroom. When I returned, Jackson was lying on his side of the bed and his eyelids looked heavy. I smiled and climbed in beside him, scooting close to him. Giving him one last kiss, as I did every night that we had spent together, Jackson wrapped an arm around me tightly.

“I love you, Maddie,” he whispered as our lips parted.

My face beamed at his quiet admission, “I love you too, Jackson. Now go to sleep, you need your rest.”

  “Sassy, sassy,” Jackson softly chuckled.

“That’s me,” I giggled as I rested my head on his chest.

Damn, if this wasn’t a whirlwind romance then I didn’t know what was. But it made me happy as hell.

  Chapter Seven

“Here, I made you some soup,” Jackson said softly as he crawled into bed next to me and carefully handed over a large oversized bowl.

“Jackson…you didn’t have to do that, you should be getting ready to head to the field,” I smiled before turning away from him and coughing into the crook of my arm.

It was just like me to get a cold…in the fucking summer. I had been sneezing and coughing constantly since the wee hours of the morning and Jackson had spent the morning taking care of me while I called in sick to work. This stupid cold was something that happened to me every year because it always decided to mix in with my allergies. Usually I was misera
ble at home and alone in bed. This time, I had a wonderful man to take care of me.

When I looked back at him, he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, “Don’t worry about that right now, I just want to help you feel better.”

I sighed, “I could really go for a kiss right now, but I don’t want you to get sick.”

Jackson ignored the last part of my sentence and gave me a soft kiss, “That better?”

“Much,” I blushed and began to eat my soup as Jackson’s phone rang.

He rubbed my back with one hand while he brought his phone up to his ear.

“What’s up, Reed? Did she sign the papers finally?” Jackson asked into the phone.

As whomever Reed was—I assumed it was his lawyer—answered, Jackson pressed a kiss against my shoulder. I ate my soup as quietly as I could, loving the fact that he had made chicken noodle soup. It was a good classic soup, one of which I would have made for myself if it was just me taking care of myself.

“Wait, she wants to add what?” He sat up quickly, his hand dropping from my back.

  That didn’t sound good.

“There’s no fuckin’ way I am agreein’ to that. Not after what she did to me.”

His hand formed into a fist as his jaw clenched. This was definitely going to be very bad news. I finished up my soup and put my bowl on the bedside table, pausing momentarily to sneeze. Jackson had laughed the first time he heard me sneeze because apparently I was a ‘cute sneezer’. I didn’t go full-blown achoo mode, it was more like a soft little achoo. It wasn’t really something that people told me was adorable in meaningful way, more in a teasing way. When I turned back to Jackson, he was shaking his head.

“No, we need to squash this. I know for a fact that she is doin’ the exact thing that she is tryin’ to stop me from doin’. It is a crock of shit and I’m not puttin’ up with it. You can tell her lawyer that. Okay, thanks for callin’ me. Bye.”

He hung up and threw the phone onto the end of the bed before lying back against the pillows and covering his face.
