“Good morning, Elliot. How are you doing?”
“Cut the crap, Deacon. What do you want?”
Deac arched a brow at him and waited. Elliot lowered his eyes then looked straight at him. “I want you.”
“I heard you found a mate. What? He bad in bed?” Elliot cupped his dick, leering at Deac.
Deac growled, his eyes flashing. “Fuck you. I won’t discuss him with you.”
Elliot slouched in his chair, throwing an arm over the back of it. “Then what do you want?”
“How much do you know about what’s happening around here and to shifters in general?” He was an ex-SEAL. Deac was positive he would have noticed.
Elliot grunted. “Been away, haven’t I, but I’ve seen shit. Humans messing with us, doing shit they shouldn’t be. I’ve noticed the patrols, seen how the patterns are changing.”
“I want you on the Council here. I want you to be in charge of security for Morefield and our liaison with Salutem’s head of security.”
“Who is the head there?”
Deac grunted. “It seems that Ish, Vir’s mate—“
“Who and who?”
“Ishmael Patel, human, and mated to Viridian Dubois, shifter. Also, another human, Euan McLeod, mated to a vampire, Logan Cox. The three run security together. All ex-military; they worked on the same team.”
“I see.”
Deac tilted his head and waited, but Elliot didn’t say anything else. “That’s it?”
“You want me to be in charge of security, liaise with Salutem, and work with two humans and a shifter. Why?”
“Why? What why?”
“Huh?” Elliot looked puzzled then shook his head. “Why me? I haven’t been here long.”
“Your background for a start.”
“I’ll think about it.” Elliot stood, and Deac scrambled up, taken off guard by Elliot’s sudden move.
“That’s it? I need an answer.” He didn’t want Elliot to leave without knowing one way or the other.
“And you’ll get one—when I’m ready.”
“Wait. I need one now, or I’ll have to find someone else.”
“Maybe you should have pulled your thumb from your ass sooner then. You’ll get your answer when I’m ready.”
“Elliot! Don’t fucking leave until we’ve sorted this out.”
“You might be Mayor here, but that doesn’t make you my boss, and if this is what I’m going to have to put up with, then shove your job offer up your ass. I’m more than happy with my plot of land. I don’t need this shit.”
“What if they take someone you care about?”
“Like who? My mate died when we were kids. My parents died while I was overseas. I don’t even know why I came back here to this shithole village in the middle of nowhere.”
“Because it’s home.” Deac walked around his desk and stopped in front of Elliot. He was so close he could feel the other shifter’s anger vibrate in the air between them. “I need your help. I need your expertise to keep the people who call Morefield home safe. We have another twenty to twenty-five shifters preparing to move here. You know, safety in numbers. I would like you to head security, set up the teams, and make sure we are protected. I need you, and more importantly, Morefield needs you.”
Elliot’s jaw moved from side to side, his eyes glaring holes into Deac’s, but Deac stood his ground and waited. “Fine,” Elliot bit out. “But you might regret it.”
Deac nodded. “Thanks for the warning, and thank you for agreeing.”
“Fucking guilted me into it, more like.” Elliot nodded and left, leaving Deac staring at the closed door. Checking the time, he grabbed his car keys and left, waving at Babs on the way out. He only had ten minutes to get to the Salutem Council meeting, and it was thirty minutes away. He was going to be late, but he had his head of security—in the surly, probably argumentative, Elliot Young.
“Where is he?” Maggie demanded. Deac heard her voice from outside the conference room and briefly contemplated leaving before entering the building, but he had to be here. Too many lives depended on them, and he wanted to see how Maggie reacted when she heard what had happened to Stone.
He pushed open the door leading inside and ignored the looks thrown his way as he sat next to Liam. Liam rolled his eyes, and Deac hid his grin. Looked like Maggie had been speaking for some time.
“Now that everyone is here, I have some news for you all.” Indy stood and looked at everyone around the table. “Stone McQueen was found murdered in his home.”
Maggie slumped back in her chair, a hand to her throat. “Murdered? Stone?” She shook her head, her face pale. “It... no, not Stone. Not here.”
“It looks like he was tortured first then shot in the head. Professional hit from all accounts. We believe he was targeted by the group attacking our own kind. We don’t know why, but we’re investigating it as a matter of urgency.”
“Tortured? Shot?” Maggie gasped. “When? When did this happen? I saw him recently at the grocery store. He was alive and well, and we talked.”
“Two weeks ago. We’ve kept it quiet while we dealt with other issues. We can’t have this getting out to the general public. We need to keep this information away from them. They already have too much to worry about with what’s happening to the shifters. The last thing they need to hear about is one of our Council members being murdered.”
“Are you sure it was them?”
“No, we aren’t, but we can’t find any other reason why he would be targeted.”
“But we haven’t had any other residents taken, have we?” she asked. “No one else has reported a family member missing.”
“No. So far things have settled, but that doesn’t mean we can take a step back on our security measures.”
“I don’t think it was them who did this. I wonder if someone had a grudge against Stone. We’ve not seen these humans enter the town, have we?”
“Because security is covering the town. They haven’t found a hole in our measures that they can exploit.”
Maggie nodded, then stood. “I’m going to leave. I need some time to think. You should have told me as soon as this happened, Indigo. You’re our Mayor, but we are a Council that makes decisions. I want a list of all changes on my desk first thing tomorrow.” Maggie stormed out of the room, the door banging shut behind her.
Deac whistled and looked at Indy. “That went well.”
Indy snorted. “She didn’t hang around, did she?”
“Her phone’s tapped.” Euan opened his laptop. “I’ll keep an eye on it.”
“She could have a burner.” Vir leaned over Euan’s shoulder and stared at the screen. “We need to keep tabs on the nearest tower to her.”
“On it.” Euan tapped away, his brow furrowed as he concentrated.
“How are the parents?”
Liam grunted. “Don’t know. Haven’t seen them recently after the last argument we had.”
“Not good, I take it.”
“Not at all, but it had to happen. I’ve let them rule my life for far too long, and it stops now. It’ll take them some time to get used to it, but I’ve had enough, and now they know.”
“I’ll keep an eye on the nearest cell tower, but for now, nothing’s happening.” Euan continued to tap away as he spoke. “If she makes a call, I’ll trace it.”
“Our guest was a tough nut to crack but Billy worked his magic.”
Deac snorted. “The picks or the scalpel?”
“The picks. He used one, and the man squealed like a pig.” Indy shook his head and sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. “He’s a low rung employee. Doesn’t know much, and it appears that’s how this company operates. You only learn information depending on your place on the structure. We have a name, or should I say initials. A.S. That’s all he could tell us.”
“I’m not surprised.” Brian shuffled some papers front of him. “Whoever is in charge would want to limit the damage that could be caused. Only give out informat
ion that is necessary, then if someone is captured, they can’t reveal too much.”
“I’m getting pissed off with this.”
Deac nodded in agreement with Indy. “It feels like we’re crawling around in the dark. At least we have security up and running, which leads me to my head of security.” Liam chuckled. “Elliot Young, ex-SEAL, has agreed to run security for me. He’ll be in touch at some point. He’s gruff, rude, and to the point, but he has a hell of a lot of experience.”
“I’ve worked with worse.” Vir folded his arms over his chest. “As long as he can work with us, then we’re good to go. We need more people with experience who can work with us.”
“He has the experience. As for the temperament?” Deac pursed his lips. “I virtually ordered him to let me know if he’d do it.”
“I’ll take his number, and if he hasn’t reached out to us, I’ll pay him a visit.”
“Good luck.” Deac stretched then yawned. “Fuck, it’s been a long year.”
Everyone chuckled. “Long couple of years. I need a vacation.” Indy closed his eyes and leaned his head back. “On a beach, lying in the sun and working on my tan.”
“With a friend or two.” Vir grinned.
Indy opened his eyes and shrugged. “So we wait for this Elliot, and then we get security up and running properly between Salutem and Morefield. We scoped out areas for our remote cabins?”
Vir frowned at Indy but answered the question. “We have several possible locations.” He unrolled a map and showed the areas highlighted. Deac listened and chipped in with the occasional comment, but he noticed the way Vir watched Indy.
What was going on between them?
CHAPTER NINE
THE MEAL WAS fantastic. He didn’t know Deac could cook like that, but oh my god, he could cook all the meals from now on. “Where did you learn to cook?”
“Mom made sure I knew how. Said no mate of mine was being left stuck in the kitchen, and that I had to help out too. I like cooking and experimenting with new food. You and the girls might end up being my guinea pigs.”
“If it leads to meals like that, then we’re in!” He stood and held out his hand, proud that there was only a light tremor. “Take me to bed, Deac.”
“No mating though.” Deac threw the dishcloth down and pulled Costas into his arms. “I know you’re not ready, and as long as there is plenty of this, I can hold back.”
“I know it’s like some built-in need to mate, but thank you for waiting.”
Deac took Costas’ hand and led him out of the kitchen and up the stairs. Deac lived in a nice three bedroom house, one he’d told Costas had been built by his grandparents and passed to him. Costas couldn’t say he paid much attention to it, because he’d been completely focused on Deac from the moment he’d arrived.
When Deac had opened the door wearing a tight black T-shirt and equally dark blue jeans, Costas had almost come on the spot. Deac looked amazing, and Costas had wanted to strip naked and have Deac fuck him there and then. It was only the scent of food in the air that made Costas hold back, but they’d eaten, and now it was time to get to the naked stage of the evening.
He walked into Deac’s room and glanced at it. Dark wood and pale walls was all he noticed as his attention was on the large bed in the center of the room. White bedding and fluffy pillows with a wolf teddy bear in the middle.
“Is that a wolf?”
“It was a gift from one of the children we rescued.”
Costas smiled and walked over to pick it up. “That’s lovely.”
Deac took it from him and placed it on the windowsill. “We aren’t here to talk about gifts.” Deac slid his lips over Costas’ cheek. “You have far too many clothes on.”
Costas swallowed but said, “Why don’t we do something about it then.”
He made a show of undoing his shirt, freeing one button at a time. Deac growled, his eyes glowing as Costas slowly revealed his chest. He tugged the ends of his shirt free from his jeans and spread the sides wide. Deac ran his hands over Costas’ chest and tugged the dark hairs covering it.
“I like your fur, baby.” He bent his head and sucked one of Costas’ nipples into his mouth, causing Costas to gasp. Flicking it, he lifted his head and kissed Costas deeply, leaving him breathless. “Let’s see more.”
He pushed Costas’ shirt from his shoulders, and Costas let it fall to the floor. His head fell back, his eyes closing, when Deac ran his hands over his chest and shoulders then opened them when Deac lifted his head.
“I can’t kiss you like that. Too far away.” He smiled, and Costas returned it then lifted his head for Deac’s kiss. Deac’s lips slid over his from side to side. He licked at Costas’ lips, bit the full bottom one, and then licked again.
Costas slid his tongue out, and Deac sucked it into his mouth. Costas moaned, his dick jerking in his jeans. Deac broke the kiss and pulled his T-shirt off, throwing it to the floor, then shoved his jeans off. He stood naked in front of Costas, who whimpered at the sight.
Deac was every fantasy come to life, and Costas wanted to climb all over him, kiss and touch every inch of Deac’s body.
Deac grabbed Costas’ jeans and together they pushed them and his briefs down his legs where he kicked them off. He stood, suddenly feeling vulnerable and wanted to cover his junk, but Deac reached out and held his hands, his eyes glowing as they roamed his body.
“Fuck,” he breathed. He grabbed Costas’ dick and stroked it several times then hauled Costas in and kissed him passionately.
Costas groaned, wrapping his arms around Deac’s waist, holding on as Deac devoured his mouth, stamping his claim on Costas. Costas trembled in Deac’s arms, and Deac held him tighter as he moved them over to his bed.
Costas fell back on it and held up his arms to Deac. Deac smiled down at him and lay down on top of him, rubbing their groins together. Costas gasped and arched up into the touch, needing to feel more. Deac nipped at his lips, his tongue licking before darting into Costas’ mouth.
Costas sank into the kiss, with Deac’s hands on his skin, and let himself feel every emotion Deac brought out in his body. He arched up, his hands grabbing Deac’s ass, and sucked on Deac’s tongue. Deac moaned and rubbed his body over Costas, his hips rubbing against him.
He didn’t know how long they kissed for, but he could feel how wet he was. Their dicks slid past each other, the precome easing their way, and when Deac moved down, licking and kissing Costas’ body, he panted and thrust up. He wanted to come, and he didn’t care how.
“Soon,” Deac whispered against a nipple. He licked it, the tip of his tongue flicking the hard nub. When he bit it, Costas jumped in surprise, a loud moan escaping his lips. “Love the sounds you make. Want to hear more of them.”
Costas whimpered then gasped when Deac took his dick in his mouth. He thought Dec would play with his nipples more, but it seemed his mate had other ideas. He thrust up, pushing more of his dick into that hot haven.
Deac moaned and held his dick up, bobbing his head as he stroked. His other hand was between Costas’ legs, his finger rubbing over his hole. Costas trembled at the dual sensations. He didn’t know what to focus on, didn’t know what he wanted more. It was too much, but at the same time not enough.
Deac’s finger kept rubbing over his hole, and slowly he relaxed. When Deac sensed it, he lifted his head and growled, “Hold your legs up. Open yourself up for me.”
Costas stared, his eyes wide as he tried to figure out what Deac wanted. Deac pushed at his thighs, and Costas lifted his legs. He let Deac place his hands on the back of his thighs. Then he understood and shuddered. Oh my god. He’d never...no, Deac wouldn’t do that, would he?
The first touch of Deac’s tongue had him crying out, his body arching off the bed. The second had him trembling, his hands squeezing his thighs. Deac kept licking his ring, his tongue tracing the edge before sliding over it. He didn’t try to push it in; it was more a taste of what was to come, a tease of the pleasure Costas knew
Deac would make him feel.
His tongue continued to lick over him, just the tip tormenting him, then Deac swiped over his hole with the whole of his tongue, and Costas cried out, his legs jerking in his hands. Deac chuckled but kept licking him, alternating between his whole tongue and just the tip, leaving Costas in a sweaty mess.
When the tip pushed in, he automatically tensed then relaxed when it slipped out. Deac did it again, but Costas was expecting it and didn’t tense up. In and out, Deac worked Costas’ hole with just the tip and then slid more in, causing Costas to gasp. He kept sliding it in and out, and Costas trembled at how good it felt.
His body was alive with sensation, all his attention focused on that one tiny spot. More and more of Deac’s tongue slid into his ass, and Costas couldn’t believe how good it felt, how that one bundle of nerves could reduce him to this trembling mess.
Deac played with his nuts as he fucked Costas’ ass with his tongue, but soon a finger came into play. Deac ran it around the edge as he continued to use his tongue to bring Costas to the peak. Soon the finger slid in, aided by the copious amount of saliva from Deac’s tongue.
Costa whimpered and trembled as Deac played with his body. When one finger became two, he hissed at the slight pinch of pain, but that soon disappeared. He felt the fingers move in his ass, then he almost leapt off the bed when they touched something inside him. He knew what that spot was and couldn’t believe how much it made him feel. He almost came just from Deac rubbing on it, and he stuttered out, “sssoo, good.”
“I love having mine played with. Knew you’d love it too.”
Deac kept rubbing his gland, making Costas’ body sing in pleasure. When his ass felt wetter, he looked down and saw Deac drop the lube on the bed. He kneeled between Costas’ legs, stroking his dick, his eyes glowing as they stared at Costas.
He dropped over Costas and took his mouth in a demanding kiss as his dick rubbed up and down Costas’ crack. When he reached between them and guided it to his hole, Costas moaned and stared up into Deac’s eyes.
