  “Oh hey, well Alex had his secret board meeting today and he thought it would be a good idea if you both were here. He wants to tell all of us. I’m not sure of the meeting was good or bad and I personally think it would be good to have Reece here.” I’m getting nervous about what happened at this meeting.   “Yeah we will be there in half an hour.” She’s just about to end the call when I almost forgot to ask her something.

  Chapter Twelve

  Alex

  REECE AND STEPH SHOW up exactly 30 minuets after they ended the call to Louise.

  I have so much to tell them all and I can’t exactly bring myself to form any words.

  I have them all sitting in the living room on couches, they are waiting for me to talk, but I don’t think I can.

  “Well Alex, we are waiting for you to say something.” Reece has to be sarcastic.

  “I know, I just… I just don’t know where to start.” I really don’t, I want to tell them everything but there are some parts that I can’t. Louise, especially shouldn’t know certain details. It will put her life at risk.

  “Maybe start with how the first meeting went with the board? Were they complete assholes?” Steph asks, she really knows how to get the conversation flowing.

  “Well, it was awkward at the start but I learned a lot of information about the possible locations to Matt and his club members, what will happen to them once they get captured and there was this one particular woman who’s mouth I would like to stick a dirty sock in.” I hear Lou giggle beside me.

  “So what are the plans when the… the club members… get captured?” Lou asks me, I know this subject is tough to talk about but she needs to know. She has to be there after all.

  I turn to look at Louise; I want her to focus on me and only me. There isn’t anyone else in the room but the two of us.

  “They want you in there when they question them. You decide their fate Lou.” I can see the horror written all over her face. I quickly pull her close to me and I can feel her silently sobbing into my chest. Steph and Reece don’t say anything, and I’m grateful for that.

  “What the fuck would they want her there? I don’t understand why they want to put her through more pain from those assholes?” Reece’s temper rises.

  “Calm down, this isn’t helping Lou.” Steph looks my way and gives an apologetic shrug.

  “I don’t know why but I will be there the whole time.” I look down at Lou; the faith I see in her eyes when she looks at me brings my heart into my throat.

  “Enough you two love birds, what else happened at the meeting?” Reece cuts in. Asshole.

  “They may have a lead on the mole in the agency but they left that task up to me. They think someone is working with Matt but that’s classified. That’s all that happened really.” I try to downplay that, I
don’t want them catching on.

  “Okay, so let's discuss other things.” Reece looks towards Steph and it’s like a secret message was passed between them. I feel Lou tense but then she relaxes when I stroke her hair. I hate that she’s still on edge. I never wanted her to be hurt but she had to know.

  “Come on Lou, let’s get ready to hit the town tonight!” Steph practically jumps out of her seat and marches towards us. I hope Lou wants to go.

  I know Steph had to be convinced to go out tonight and Reece was the one who had to do it; I think it would be good for all of us. “I don’t want to…” Lou snuggles in closer to me.

  “Yes you are. You will get off that fat ass of yours and follow me.” Steph stands there, tapping her foot on the ground and she has her arms crossed. Women.

  “Fine, but I refuse to buy any one of you a drink.” That’s my stubborn girl. I watch her leave with Steph and the bedroom to the spare room closes.

  Now that leaves me alone with Reece, he has something planned. I can feel it.

  “Go on, spit it out.” I give my neck a roll and I can hear the cracks. This stress is making me age before my time.

  “I take it there is more to the meeting than you are letting on.” Reece looks at me and waits.

  “Yes, but I can’t share that information. Not even with you and besides it is really nothing.” I stare him down, I won’t let on that there is a bigger picture and they don’t need to be involved in this, not yet.

  “Okay fine, but what about Jackie and the baby? Steph and I have tried to keep it a secret but I can tell you haven’t told Louise about that yet, have you?” Reece gets up off the couch and starts pacing around the living room. He hates lying to those he really cares about.

  “No, my lawyers are still trying to get a DNA test off her but she won’t have it. I’m waiting to hear back from them in the next couple of weeks.” I fucking hope this baby isn’t mine. I don’t want things to come to an end with Louise. It has only just gotten to the good parts.

  “Well that fucking sucks, I hope that shit gets sorted before Louise finds out from someone else.” Reece takes the seat and I can tell he has more on his mind.

  “What else is there Reece?” I ask. He is really bad at keeping anything from me.

  “Are you going to return to work? What about your dad’s company? Man, you can’t leave everything just for this agency, are they even paying you?” Reece, that man is always looking out for me.

  “I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. I want to return to be the paramedic I vowed to myself I would be but I can’t let my father down and let his company be ruined.” There is so much stress building up, I’m not sure I can stay afloat much longer. I think it’s time for a visit with my mother. She always knows what to do.

  “I think you need to decide soon because the outside world is still continuing on without you and I’m sure you won’t want to be left behind.” Full of wisdom he is.

  “You are right, but not tonight. I want this night to be a fucking great one.” Just in time, the girls come out of the spare room and Louise is fucking beautiful. I can’t believe my eyes.

  She walks out following Steph, but I don’t pay her any attention. My eyes fall on Louise; she has her hair loosely curled around her shoulders. She has light makeup on. You can’t even tell it’s there, but I notice.

  That blue dress is doing things to my mind and I can’t stop looking at her in it.

  It’s a short dress that isn’t tight or too loose for her body, it sparkles when the light catches it. It reminds me of a Topaz gemstone I saw in that jewelry store when I picked out her Ruby necklace.

  I would never have thought that blue suits her as well as red does.

  I get up off the couch and slowly walk towards her. She doesn’t look at me but I know she relaxes when I’m near.

  “You look amazing Precious.” I whisper in her ear.

  I can’t wait to take this dress off and discover what’s underneath.

  “Thanks, but I think you should go tidy yourself up.” She looks up and smirks at me. God this woman.

  “Your wish is my command.” I give Louise a quick kiss on the forehead and I turn around to walk towards my room.

  How the fuck did I get so lucky?

  I’m on a high just by seeing her like that, if I had it my way she would be dressed like that everyday, or in nothing at all. Whichever comes first.

  “Alex come on, we are waiting.” I hear Steph call out, god they are all impatient. I’ve just been standing here thinking about Louise and what it would feel like to slip her out of that dress. I have to save that for later and to focus on the now. Like getting dressed would be the best start.

  I chose a black dress shirt and black slacks. I want to look businesslike but dangerous. I want to look the part next to an incredible woman.

  “Almost ready.” I call out, they should never rush art.

  I spray my favorite aftershave and I style my hair to a messy but neat one. It looks perfect when I check it out in the mirror.

  I grab my wallet, phone and keys. I walk out into the living room and Louise has her back to me but I notice that she stands straighter when I walk into the room. It’s amazing how she knows when I’m around. It’s this vibe we have going on, I get it too when she walks into the room I’m in.

  “Ready to go?” I ask Reece, he just nods his head. I don’t think he wants to be here, I have a feeling he would rather take Steph home and ravish her.

  Louise turns around and her eyes lock on mine. We stand like this for a few seconds before she breaks the contact.

  She looks me up and down, I notice she’s biting her lip and blush slowly creeps into her cheeks. I do believe she is checking me out and loving it.

  “Dark and handsome, I like it.” Louise walks right into my arms and I give her a sweet quick kiss. I want to save the more passionate stuff for when we get home.

  “I like you.” I admit to her. I don’t want to beat around the bush about my feelings for her anymore and I hope she accepts that.

  “I like you too.” She leans in and gives me another quick kiss.

  I can’t help the massive smile that creeps onto my face and I look at Louise and she is matching my smile. This is going to be a great night.

  I hear Reece cough and he says, “Sorry to interrupt but I would like to get drunk.” Asshole.

  We all arrive at La Crush and it is crowded. Why do people have to be out on a Friday night, I just want a quiet drinking night. Reece and I tell the girls to find us a booth at the back but I don’t take my eyes off Louise when we reach the bar. I can see her laughing at what Steph said. I search around the busy room and I don’t notice anyone. No faces look familiar, thank god.

  “Are you looking for someone?” Reece noticed I was scanning the crowd, I already lied to him I can’t keep doing it.

  “No, no one. I just didn’t want to run into anyone tonight. I’ve had enough drama to last me a lifetime.” Reece and I grab the drinks and walk back towards the girls.

  I stop.

  There is someone standing close to Louise but it looks like she is looking at her phone but it is pointing at Lou.

  What the fuck.

  I swear she took a picture of her, I blink a couple of times and the person is gone.

  I must have imagined that.

  “You coming?” Reece calls out.

  “Yeah man.” I pick up my pace and I keep scanning the crowd for that person. I’m sure it was a woman but she was wearing a hoodie. That is strange especially in a place like this.

  As soon as my eyes land on Louise, all my thoughts about that strange woman just go away. She looks up at me and the smile disappears. Fuck.

  “What is it Precious?” I sit next to her; I put my arm around her and comfort her.

  “Nothing, it’s just you. You look like you’ve seen a ghost and I can’t understand why?” She is always worrying when she doesn’t have to.

  “Nothing, just nearly spilled th
e drinks on my way here. We are at this bar to have a good time.” I look over to Steph and I catch Reece in the corner of my eye.

  “Alex is right, we should be getting drunk and dancing and that’s exactly what we are all going to do.” I can practically feel Reece’s eye roll from where I’m sitting.

  Louise shoots back her lemon and vodka and gives the other shot glass to Steph to do the same. Once they are both done, they head towards the dance floor.

  Louise is swaying her hips to the beat of the music and Steph soon matches the same pace. I’m glad Lou has a friend here from her past, someone good.

  “Are you going to get up there too?” Reece gets my attention and I force my eyes to look at him.

  “Not unless you’re going too?” I ask him, he just shakes his head at me.

  “What did you see before and don’t feed me the nothing bullshit.” Reece is getting annoyed at me. This is the only time and place where I can tell him everything that’s going on. Louise and Steph aren’t nearby and no one can hear us over the music.

  “Fine, there is more to the meeting than I lead on.” Reece rolls his eyes; yeah he knew I was lying about that.

  “Sorry man, apparently Matt has recruited new people to help him hide and one of those people is a woman to stalk Louise. I’ve seen pictures at all different locations and I swear she looks familiar but I can’t put my finger on it. That’s why I freaked out, I thought I saw a woman taking a picture of Louise but when I got a good look, she was gone.” Reece's face turns from curious and mad to sick and angry. This was exactly how I reacted, I was probably worse.

  This is my woman.

  “What the fuck man?” Reece gets up and then thinks about it and takes his seat.

  “Why haven’t you told Louise yet?” He takes a long drink of his beer.

  “I was instructed not to, it is fucking killing me not to say anything but I can’t.” I take a drink of mine and I look over to where Louise and Steph are dancing. They look so happy and carefree, that’s how I always want them to be.

  “What are you going to do about it now?” He keeps asking me questions I really don’t have the answer to.
