“Okay and now is probably the best time to talk to you about the charity I want to be a part of. I want to start working after our little paradise is over. I don’t want to go back to the firm, that isn’t for me anymore.” I get up and gather the dishes. I start washing them when Alex’s phone starts ringing.

“Alex Knight.” He answers; we aren’t expecting any call today so I stop washing the dishes. I have to listen to this one-ended phone call.

“I see, I thought you called it off or postponing it.” I have no idea what he is talking about.

“So it’s really happening? When is this taking place?” Alex starts getting anxious; he gets up from his seat and starts pacing.

“Alright, yes sir. We will be there in a few hours. Yes I understand, I will see you then.” He puts his phone back in his pocket, he turns to face me and the look he is giving me has knocked the wind out of my lungs.

  No.

“Louise, it’s happening tonight.” He walks over to me and catches me before I fall to the floor.

There goes our little slice of paradise.

“What’s happening tonight Alex?” I’m afraid of the answer I will get but I have to know.

“The agency just called, they have decided to take Matt and his members out, tonight. They want us at the Agency, out of harm's way.” Alex lifts me up and places me on the long couch. I can’t believe they are finally doing it.

“I’m scared Alex, what if he gets away? I don’t know what I would do if he found me again.” I pull Alex closer to me, I have this nagging feeling everything is going down hill, fast.

“Everything is going to be alright, lets head over to the agency in an hour. It takes a while to get there and that way we are out of Matt’s way.” Alex helps me up; he takes my hand and walks up the stairs to our bedroom.

“Why are we in the bedroom?” I haven’t been paying much attention to where Alex was leading us.

“We are going to have a shower, you need to relax and that’s what I’m going to do.” He turns us and we are walking towards the bathroom.

Alex always knows best, I don’t think I could have done this without him.

“Thank you Alex.” I zone out again.

Alex helps me get undressed and I just stare off into space when he undresses.

He turns on the shower and waits until it's warm enough to lead us both inside.

The warm water hits my body, it feels nice but I can’t stop thinking about all the risks that could happen to us today.

  We could die.

“Louise, look at me.” Alex grabs my chin and turns my face towards his.

“Think about me, think about us and our happy place. Can you do that for me?” He gives me a soft smile.

I try to take his words in but it’s hard.

“Want me to try to make you forget?” He is persistent but I’m not sure if anything will work to take my off what’s about to happen tonight.

  “You can try.” I whisper.

I stand still when I feel Alex’s soapy hands wrap around my breasts and starts massaging them. Not exactly the distraction I was going for, but maybe it’ll work.

He holds on tight but not tight where he is hurting me. He squeezes them over and over again, lightly playing with my nipples. He kisses my neck and the tops of my shoulder blades. My body starts to relax against his hold.

“That’s is Louise, relax against me. I’ve got you.” Alex says into my wet hair. I can still feel the warm water trickling down my body.

My mind starts to wonder to the moment Alex proposed to me, that is our happy moment. One where I will always treasure, for the rest of my life.

  “Precious.” Alex whispers again.

My muscles in my body start to relax and I feel Alex’s hands travel down my stomach, massaging around my scar and then he goes towards my hips. He slowly brings his hands up my arms and around to my back. He lightly rubs the back of my neck, getting rid of the unwanted tension.

My entire body is relaxed now, I can finally breathe again.

“You did it.” Alex kisses the top of my shoulder.

I feel all clean and refreshed. This mood I’m in now, I feel like I can conquer the world as long as Alex is beside me.

“It’s time to get out and get ready to go.” Alex says against my skin. It’s time to face the music.

We arrive at the large abandoned warehouse that Alex said was the undercover entrance.

“Are you ready?” Alex asks when we are walking towards the building.

“No but I want this nightmare to be over.” I squeeze his hand; I’m scared and nervous. I’m not sure what to expect, I know Alex has been here a lot but it’s still new.

“You’ll be okay, I’ve got you.” He leans over and kisses me. He always knows how to make things a little bit better.

“Thanks, now lets get this over with, I want to go home.” I smile up at him and he winks at me. He knew where I was going with that.

The building inside is exactly what I pictured it would look like, abandoned and empty.

Alex leads us towards a metal box, we round the other side and we stop in front of the elevator door.

“Are we going in that?” I ask Alex when he pushes the down button.

“Yes, don’t be afraid. It’s all safe down there.” The metal doors open and we step inside.

It doesn’t take long for us to reach the bottom level; there were four other floors we had to pass before we landed on this last one.

I never knew we could go so deep into the ground, five levels. That is crazy.

We walk past men in black suits guarding every door in the place. I’m getting more scared now. Do they think we will be under attack?

“Alex, is it always like this?” I look around the open area that is the size of a mini airport; it has metal framing holding up the upper level floor and everything is the color silver. There is no carpet, no paintings, obviously no windows but it’s completely spaced out with desks.

We continue to walk past crowded offices, more men in suits who are looking over plans, loading and re-loading guns.

This attack on Matt and his members is a serious thing, I’m getting so nervous.

We stop in front of a huge closed off office; this must be the main office in the underground building.

“Why are we at this office?” I turn to Alex, hoping he has the answer.

“Louise, this is my office.” I was not expecting that, I thought Alex just helped around the agency.

“Your office? Why do you get the big office?” I don’t mean to sound rude but I have to know why.

“Mr. Wayne is going to be stepping down and he thought I should upgrade my office.” Wow, this is all news to me.

“Ah Alex, I’m glad you came. I wanted you and Louise here safe and away from the operation.” He looks at me and I’ve wondered what he looked like.

“It’s good to finally meet you Louise. I am truly sorry that you’re in the middle of this shit storm.” He reaches his hand out to me and I shake it. Glad to know he isn’t a dick.

“It’s good to finally put the name to the face.” I pull my hand back and place it back in Alex’s.

“Alright, if you both follow me. I will take you to the radio room where you will be able to hear the communication between home base and the guys in the field. Please keep in mind that whatever you hear isn’t sugar coated.” Oh my god, this is really happening. Matt is finally going to pay for what he has done to me and so many others that we don’t know about.

We follow Mr. Wayne down a hallway and into another office but this office is full of computers and monitors. Speakers and radio’s everywhere. I’ve never seen anything like it.

“Please have a seat near the main intercom radio, this is where you will hear all the agents talk amongst themselves.” I take the seat next to Alex and wait for someone to talk.

“They are five minutes away from the location, Matt’s men have no clue about the attack since the mole here has
been taken care of.” I am so clueless right now, why hasn’t Alex told me anything about this?

“The mole has been taken care of, what do you mean by that?” I look towards Alex because I want him to tell me.

“I was going to tell you but I didn’t want to upset you.” I look away from him, annoyed that he didn’t tell me.

“I am still waiting Alex.” My patience is running thin, I don’t need this now.

“It was Saunders, the mole was Saunders. I had discovered him; he knew too much about Matt and his plans. He had been working at the agency for two years, that’s how Captain died.” I never expected the mole to be Saunders; I don’t understand why he would do that.

“Sorry to interrupt this heart to heart moment but I’ve got reports back, the agents are ready to move in.” Mr.

Wayne comes up beside us and puts a hand on Alex’s shoulder.

The radio starts making a noise and then a man’s husky voice starts speaking.

“We are on location, we have heat vision on and we see five suspects. There is a sniper on the roof in position.” The husky male voice says.

“Do you see your main target?” Mr. Wayne says back into the radio.

“Yes sir, but we have to enter the building to take him out.” The husky male says.

“I give you the order.” Mr. Wayne says.

I look towards Alex when the radio is silent.

He reaches across the table to hold my hand; he squeezes it and then brings it up to his lips to kiss it.

  This is it.

“We are in the building, it’s pitch black. We had to turn our head flash lights on. We can’t see anything in front of us without them. Wait, we see figures moving in front of us.” The husky voice reported back.

We wait to hear something next but its dead silent.

“Agent Cobra, report.” Mr. Wayne says into the radio.

So the husky guy’s name is Agent Cobra, I wonder what his real name is but until then he is Cobra.

“It was nothing sir, we are walking further into the building but we don’t see anything.” Cobra says.

I look towards Alex and he looks anxious, is this a setup? Is there another mole in the agency?

“We are entering the first room where we located a heat figure on the radar.” Cobra reports.

It’s dead silent again; I don’t think I can take not knowing anymore.

“Get down, get down. I will shoot your sorry ass. Get down on the floor right now!” Cobra yells.

A gunshot rings out in the radio room, holy shit. I’m shaking, it’s actually happening. They are finding people in the building, is it Matt or someone else.

  “Identify yourself.” Cobra says.

I hear coughing and gargling of something. I can’t quite make out what is it.

“Ro…ver.” Oh my god, not Rover. I suck in a breath when I picture him laughing at one of my silly jokes three years ago.

“What is happening?” I look towards Mr. Wayne, hoping he will give me some answers.

“Cobra, report.” Mr. Wayne says into the radio.

“The first suspect was shot in the chest, he isn’t dead yet. Do you want to terminate?” Cobra asks.

“No! You can’t kill him!” I yell at Mr. Wayne, he can’t end that man’s life.

He looks at me and shakes his head.

“No, take him into custody. We have a few questions for him, make sure he gets medical attention.” Mr. Wayne replies.

Thank goodness he has chosen to spare Rover, I had hoped he got away just like Jax.

“Yes sir, Agent Dragon take the suspect back to the team base.” Cobra orders another agent.

Four suspects to go, I hope they all don’t get killed. That wasn’t my intention, for people to die.

“We are now entering another room, wait… hold up…” We all wait for Cobra to continue.

“Face the wall, now!” Cobra is back on the radio, he sounds like he has another member in custody.

“Who is it?” I close my eyes and think of the members that I know of Matt’s club. There is Rover, Jax, Rick, Saunders, Joey and Matt. They are the ones I know from the club. Rover is in custody, Saunders is disposed of, whatever that means and Jax got away. So that leaves Joey, Rick and Matt left.

“Identify the suspect Cobra.” Mr. Wayne asks.

“It’s Max. Apparently he is new to the club and he said he doesn’t know where Matt is, he said he is somewhere in the building but isn’t clear on where.” It goes radio silence, but I can faintly hear feet shuffling in the background.

I look around the room and everyone has stopped what they were doing to listen to the operation.

“We have now entered a larger room and we can spot two suspects near the doorway. They haven’t heard us come in, we might have the element of surprise… No, get down… hold… your…” Cobra doesn’t finish the sentence when gunshots are being fired.

  BANG

  BANG

  BANG

I’m holding my breath, I close my eyes. This isn’t something I ever wanted to hear again. I’m trying so hard not to remember that night. The night where Matt shot me and I nearly died. I open my eyes when I hear Alex getting off his chair to walk around to where I’m sitting.

“Lou, come here.” He helps me off my chair; he sits down and pulls me on top of his lap. I snuggle up on him, I needed this.

“Report Agent Cobra!” Mr. Wayne yells into the radio.

“Mr. Wayne, this is Agent Hook. Agent Cobra has been taken out as well as one of the suspects. Another is in custody. We did get information on who they are, the one who is deceased is Joey and the man in custody is Rick.” Oh my god.

  People have been killed.

  This can’t be happening.

Alex pulls me closer on his lap, his embrace is tight and I welcome it.

“Very well Agent Hook, continue on your search for the prime suspect.” Mr. Wayne tells the new agent who is in charge.

“We have two more locations to check in this building, if the prime suspect isn’t here then this mission is a bust.” Agent Hook tells us.

If Matt isn’t in the building, then where is he?

“Continue on Agent Hook.” Mr. Wayne orders.

“Yes sir… Men lets enter the door on the left.” He tells his team.

We hear a bang of a wooden door and then nothing.

  It’s silence again.

“Get down, get down…” Agent Hook orders to someone.

“Hands on your head, that’s an order or I will shoot.” Agent orders again.

  Is this Matt?

  “Identify Agent.” Mr. Wayne says.

“Drake.” The guy says, his voice is muffled. This can’t be happening. They said there were five people in the building and if you count all the ones who are alive and dead, that makes up five.

  Where is Matt?

“Agent Hook, you search that fucking last room! Matt needs to be found!” Mr. Wayne is getting really angry.

“Yes sir… Let’s move out, that last room needs to be searched.” Agent Hook orders the men to make a move.

I hear the door being broken, it smashes and then I hear nothing.

  More silence.

“We have another suspect.” Agent Hook says.

“It’s about time you showed up…” I know that voice.

  It belongs to Matt.

  BANG

  BANG

  BANG

  BANG

  More gunshots are fired.

“Man down, I repeat man down.” Agent Hook says into the radio.

“We need back up now!” He yells into the radio.

  Oh my god.

“Terminate!” Mr. Wayne says into the radio.

  “Yes sir.” Agent Hook replies.

  BANG

  BANG

  BANG

  More shots were fired.

“Target is down, I repeat the target is down.” Agent Hook replies.

Everyone in the room is still; I’m hold
ing my breath. I don’t want to know if he’s dead or alive.

I don’t know if I can handle it.

  “Hol… the… roof… fal… can’t…” Agent Hook is breaking up.

“What is going on?” I ask Mr. Wayne, it sounded like…

  BANG

  CRASH

Sirens are going off and another explosion sounds.

“Agent report.” Mr. Wayne says into the radio.

“You aren’t going to get anything sir, we have reports that the building exploded. There is nothing left but rubble.” A man from the information table comes up and tells Mr. Wayne the new Intel.

  This can’t be happening.

“Mr. Wayne turns to us and he looks crushed.

“I’m sorry Louise, there isn’t evidence that Matt has died.” I shake my head, this can’t be it.

“We have some series clean up and investigation to do now. You both should go home, it’s going to be a long night for the rest of us. I will call you when I know something.” Mr. Wayne puts his hand on Alex’s shoulder and gives it a squeeze.

  No.

  This shouldn’t be happening.

  We were so close.

“Come on Lou, let’s get you home. They will call us when the investigation starts and they can give us information that isn’t classified. There is nothing we can do here.” Alex pulls my numb body in his.

I’ve never been this unsure in my life.

  Is Matt dead or alive?

I don’t want to leave with unanswered questions; I don’t want to wait to know if that bastard is dead.

“Precious, let’s just go home.” Alex lifts me up in his arms and that’s when I feel tears sliding down my face.

We leave the building, still not knowing if my past is still out to get me but there is one thing I am sure of.

I get to marry Alex, this beautiful man right in front of me.
