"The only reason why I'm willing to do this is for the green. I want two hundred large upfront and another hundred after we find the woman." Devon seemed to be dead serious and had that final offer look in his face, "Given the kind of people we are possible bound to piss off, I think that's reasonable."
Edgar knew this was coming. Now that Devon knew who was footing the bill, it was foolish to assume he wouldn't up the bounty. Truth was Edgar needed Devon a hell of a lot more than Devon needed the money, "All right. We'll have two hundred large wired to your account tomorrow morning. Do you want it moved to the usual account?"
"No." Devon replied rather quickly, "I'll give new account info to Tuck."
"Is there anything we need to discuss before we let everyone know things are cool in here?" Edgar said as he put the booze away.
Chapter3
"No." Devon said as he backed to the door, "It just felt good to get a few licks in after what happened last time. We're cool, for now."
"Good to hear." Edgar started as he stood up, "Because we have work to do. We're working on the basics right now. You have enough to brief your team don't you?"
"I do. And what if some of my people don't want to participate in this little adventure?" Devon asked, "I don't force people to work cases they're not comfortable with."
"Then they get to take a one month vacation, without pay." Edgar responded, "And they can meet up with you after the case is over."
"I'll let them know. We'll be back tomorrow morning to get things started." Devon said as he started to walk to the door, "I assume the funds will be in my account by then?" he quietly asked.
"Two hundred large. I'll get Tuck on it immediately."
Devon walked out of the office and didn't say a word to anyone as he walked over to tuck and passed him a piece of paper, "New account number, and mate. He'll fill you in." without saying anything else, Devon walked straight through the lobby and out the door.
As Edgar walked out, he knew exactly what Tuck was going to ask, "Relax partner, he's still on-board. The details of the case just inflated his price. Things are under control." He suddenly realized that during his scuff with Devon the Chinese he had ordered finally arrived. He grabbed a small box of fried pork, sat down and started to pop a few pieces.
"Is Devon going to be a problem?" Tuck asked, somewhat concerned.
"At first I thought so… but he just needed a moment to get something off his chest and onto my chin. Now that we've gotten that out of our system, we're on the same page. He's on board but needs to re-brief his team." he took another bite of pork, "We need to think about a way we can locate this women without alerting people of what we're up to. We can't run around posting flyers and stuff. This means the usual PI stuff won't work because if we ask questions to the wrong people, they could tell someone else who might spoil what chances we have of finding her. We're going to work by finding stuff that her Mom likes, such as habits and hobbies and use those to locate her. That's where you come in." he said as he gestured towards Jessica.
"What do you want to know?" Jessica asked, ready to help out.
"We want to know every detail and from there we'll plan our attack. I want to know if she likes a specific kind of food, a favourite fast food chain or if she likes to his the shopping network. Basically everything she does and likes to do. Through this we can try to track her by those and hopefully that will allow us to get close enough without setting off any alarms. What way we'll attempt to find her through means that no one else will think of or look for."
"All right." Jessica said as she agreed, "Let's get started."
After talking for another hour or so, Tuck gave Jessica a ride home and everyone else went their separate ways for the night. Edgar had a decent drive ahead of him, but sometimes he didn't mind living so far from his office. Time on the highway gave him a moment to reflect about his day and think about what he could have done or what he should do the next day. That way when he got him, he would be able to leave all that in the car most of the time and return home with a blank canvas. This allowed him to crash rather easily and get a lot of sleep if there wasn't a good game on the tube. As he pulled into the garage, it had been around forty minutes since he left the office and he felt the urge to raid the fridge for any possible leftovers or he would pass on food until the next morning. He walked into the building through the garage, climbed a few flights of stairs and then strolled until he reached the door he was looking for. After opening a few locks, he entered the small one bedroom apartment, hung up his coat and huffed down on the couch and relaxed for a moment. He considered getting something strong to drink to possibly forget the roller coaster of a day he had, but thought sleep would likely be more effective in regenerating his batteries. He stood up and began to walk towards his bedroom, when he heard a suspicious sound coming from the bathroom. He lived alone, so this immediately caught his attention. Edgar didn't like unexpected surprises, and responded to the sound in his bathroom by pulling a semi-automatic berretta from the holster underneath his coat, and he slowly walked towards the bathroom. Without saying a word, he quickly kicked open the door to see who was there. After scaring the shit out of the woman in the bathroom with his sidearm, Edgar threw up his hands and groaned as he started to walk away from the bathroom.
"Hello to you too, asshole." the lady in the bathroom called out as he walked away.
"Jesus, Meredith." Edgar called back as walked back to the fridge for something to settle his nerves, "I thought you gave the key back to me a long time ago."
"I had more than one copy made." Meredith responded as she walked out of the bathroom, "Is it safe to come out now?" she said is a rather playful voice.
"Yes, it is." Edgar said as he just drained a gulp of vodka straight from the bottle. An unexpected guest after taking on this new case had him a little rattled and on edge that night.
"Have a rough day at work?" Meredith asked casually as she came into the kitchen.
"Not really, just one that's going to step on my last nerve for the next month or so." Edgar said as he took another gulp from the bottle, "There's a good chance this case might, no… it will be dangerous."
"How dangerous?" Meredith asked as she got a little closer to him. For the first time Edgar noticed that she was wearing a very sexy red teddy that didn't leave very much to the imagination.
"It's dangerous enough for me to ask you to stay home for a while. The last thing I need on my conscious is the knowledge that what I did led to you being hurt in any way." Edgar also knew that for the next while, he was going to be too nervous to have unexpected guests waiting for him at home all the time like Meredith was known for doing. He loved to have her over, because she was a healthy distraction but his first instinct was right: this was going to be a case too dangerous for her to hang around him for the next while.
"Maybe I like danger." She said as she cuddled into his arm, pretty much hinting that she wanted to go back to the bedroom. Edgar was paid to notice hints and clues like this so he responded by putting the bottle back into the fridge.
As he followed her towards the bedroom he called after her, "I'm very serious. I need you to leave the keys at the door when you leave tomorrow."
Meredith stopped halfway down the hall and turned back, "Is there a problem with having me hang around for a little fun?" she said somewhat disturbed by the mere suggestion.
"No, of course not." Edgar quickly replied, desperately trying to do a little damage control, "I not lying or trying to get rid of you. We've seriously starting a case that if takes a turn for the world could become very dangerous in a New York minute. I'd like you to keep your distance so that I won't have to worry about your wellbeing while trying to worry about my own. It's not a distraction I need when working a case this huge."
She walked over and embraced Edgar and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. He loved those soft little pecks. Not too hard and not too soft, just the right kind that are intimate and yet not dirty at the same time. She looked
him in the eyes as he seemed to have the defeated look in his eyes, "All right. I can see by that puppy dog look that you are serious. I'm flattered that you care enough to want me to be safe. I really do appreciate that."
"Thanks. I do like having you here… always have." Edgar said as he put his arms around her waist, "I'm just going to need my A game in order to make everything work out. Because of this case, Tuck and I managed to land a massive pay check for the business."
Meredith seemed taken back by this sudden announcement, "How big?" she asked, somewhat curious.
"Try 'Sir Nigel Norsberg' big." Edgar said, knowing she was aware of his history with the old fart. They had been an item that long and he talked to her about a lot of her cases.
"Holy shit!" Meredith said as she finally realized what kind of case he was getting involved in, "How big is this case?"
"Let's just say he paid us upfront, and with a lot of zeroes." Edgar said as he removed his coat, "More than enough for us to go ring shopping when this is all over."
Meredith started to blush and couldn't believe what she was hearing, "Do you really mean that Edgar?" she said with a bit of excitement.
"I do." Edgar said to tease her, "But for now I need you to keep your space for the next few weeks, because we expect this case to piss off a lot of people. The kind of people who might use vandalism and violence and anything else they can think of to shake us from this case. Understood?"
"All right, I promise." Meredith said as she held him again. They kissed again for a few moments, and then she looked him in the eyes, "Feel like ordering out?"
"As long as it's anything but Thai, I'm all for it. Edgar said as he scooped her up into his arms, "But first, I think we need to work up an appetite." Edgar then carried Meredith off to the bedroom at the end of the hall and closed the door behind him.

One more second and Aidan finally completed his task for today. It's almost 9 o'clock in the morning and he could say he has already done a lot of things in his office. Usually, the office hour's starts at 9 but for him, he makes it a point to always come 2 hours earlier to accomplish many.
He has been that hard working ever since his wife died. He knows deep down that he is never going to be alone with his children, but somehow, he feels lonely. Is it really true that everything happens for a reason... if so, what are the reasons?
Amelie was his first love. They met a small coffee shop at Manhattan when he was only 29 years old. When Amelie and he got married, he thought he was the luckiest man in the world.
And that's the thing, even after all the circumstances, he still feel lucky. Although Amelie died 8 years ago, he was rewarded with two daughters and a son; He doesn't have any reason to lose hope.
Amelie was such a wonderful woman. She worked at a firm as an assistant. It was like a Cinderella fairytale story. He was rich and she was a woman supporting her family. The minute he laid eyes on Amelie, he knew she was going to be the love of his life.
They have a son named Marcus. He is now 24 years old and happily living in his independent way. His second children are twins, Sarah and Vanessa, which are both third year students at Columbia University.
His family is all he could have ever asked. He has a smart son ready to manage his business, and he has two girls close in graduating college. The only thing missing? His wife.
Amelie died before she could even turn 43 years old. She lost her battle over Leukemia. She also suffered kidney failure. After many medications, therapy, and surgeries, Amelie still wasn't saved.
Aidan felt helpless.. The fact that he couldn't do anything to save his wife killed him, little by little. He remembers those nights he read his wife romantic stories before bed time, and after seeing her sleep, he cries on her side.
It was tough. Knowing the woman of your dreams will die any minute definitely rattled him. He lost weight that time.. And he couldn't even focus. Before Amelie died, she made sure Aidan will be ready. Their story was such a romantic one, and so she reminded him often how funny Aidan looked like the time she saw him at the coffee shop.
Aidan promised Amelie to be strong. He made a vow of loving her and their children every waking moment of his life, and it was exactly what he's doing now.
Even though Amelie already passed away, her children remember her in a very beautiful way. She was an amazing mother. This is the reason why their family is united - she thought them to stay still. Their togetherness became even stronger the time she died.
Aidan is strong. He was able to manage all his fears, all his grief, all his hurt.. It's been 8 long years, and somehow he still long for his wife. He knows he couldn't do anything, even if he gives all his might. He finds it infuriating that he has all the money in the world, but no amount can bring his wife back.
"Dad? Are you in?", Aidan heard someone come in.
"Marcus? Is that you? Come in! I'm here.", he said to him holding one of his wines.
"What are you up to, Dad?", Marcus asked after seeing his father so busy with his wine.
"I'm done calculating the stats. Now I'm up to checking the wine. Have you tasted this?", he said trying to kid his son.
"Dad!! Come on!!", Marcus laughed.
"How's your sisters?", he asked.
"They're terrific. Sarah is doing a great job in Interior Design and Vanessa is one her way finishing her research; I think Vanessa will get a project after this. She really did a magnificent job on the building. Have you seen her draft? The building is so beautiful it can be a tourist spot.", Marcus said being proud.
"Good. Everything seems well, I guess. I'm proud of all of you! I'm sure your mother is proud of all of you! I just wish she's here, you know.. ", he told Marcus.
"Dad.. Mom is also proud of you..", Marcus told him. Aidan just gave him a smirk. "Hey, Dad.. It's gonna be your 55th birthday next month.. Uh-huh.. What are the plans?", Marcus asked like he was such a kid.
"Plans? I'm busy!", Aidan replied.
"Dad?! We need to make this birthday huge and happy. The girls and I have been planning a short celebration.. Would that be great?", this is really the reason why Marcus went to his office.
"And who are we going to invite? The A listers again? You know I hate most of them.", he told him.
"Well, Uncle Bon and Ke
vin will be there. And our close friends, Alfredo, John, Wayne.. and more I think.. Hey, don't you worry about it. We've made arrangements already. I just want you to tell me you'd be there and that you will try to celebrate this with all your best.", Marcus smiled.
Aidan just looked at his son. Marcus seemed so fixed already, and he knew he couldn't stop him so he said.. "Alright."
#################################
Sarah woke up because of the annoying sound of her alarm clock. She immediately stood and gazed for the window. Man, it is bright and sunny in Manhattan. Their empire is still getting ready for the day, and so she is.
She saw her cat, Louie, still sleeping soundly in her bed. She thought it was cute, but she really needs to take a bath and get ready for school.
One more minute and she found herself dumping her body in a tab. She began to think about the stuff that has been bothering her. Sarah is a third year college student at Columbia University together with her sister. She is taking Interior Design, while her sister, Vanessa, is taking Architecture.
Sarah and Vanessa were both very close to their mother. They were only very young when their mother died. Both of them have been close to each other since then. Although they are twins, you can tell that Sarah is prettier than Vanessa. However, Vanessa is a lot smarter than Sarah.
During their vacant time, Sarah joins her sister to hang out with friends. The university is huge and both of them are very popular, but they only have few friends. Since both of them came from a well known family, most people who make friends with them are users. They have experienced students like this and because of that, they prefer just being together with their small circle of friends.
After a dip, she decided to hit the shower. She is still covered in soap, but she figured it will be amazing to feel the water washing her entirely. When the water touched her face, she started thinking about her father. Aidan has been grieving for her mother's death for 8 years now. Despite their many efforts of fixing him to women his age in a date, Aidan is still unlucky to find himself a new love.
