“Oh baby, you haven’t seen anything yet,” he muttered against her wanton center, his breath hot against her lips. Arching up, his mouth teased her as he whispered, “I fucking love your pussy.”

She almost came undone, but soon his mouth was devouring her. Crying out, she threaded her fingers through his hair as he buried his face between her legs, her knees buckling, her heart coming out of her chest as she hollered out anything that came to mind.

  Which was only his name.

Leaning against the door, her eyes shut as she held on to him, her body tightening as he found her clit, sucking it between his teeth, biting softly. Screaming, she thrashed beneath his mouth as he sucked it between his lips and then flicked the tip of his tongue against it so damn fast, her body clenched up and she came undone, her cries of ecstasy causing Gretzky to whimper behind their closed door. She sorta felt bad, but only for a second before Jordie was running his tongue along her dripping wet center.

“Fuck, you sound so good screaming my name,” he said against her pussy, kissing it softly before kissing her hips.

If she weren’t still reeling from her intense orgasm, she would have swooned at the way he kissed her belly, lingering for a moment before kissing her breasts and lifting her leg. Holding her leg, he directed his cock into her before filling her to the hilt. Letting her head fall back, she closed her eyes tightly, her body squeezing his. His breath was rough against her cheek as he pulled out and then back in, the motion so perfectly amazing that she could feel another orgasm building. His hands bit into her hips as his teeth sank into her neck, his cock so deep inside of her she never wanted him to stop.

He felt so damn good. So right, and as she opened her eyes to find him watching her, his eyes were so full of love and lust, her throat tightened with emotion. This was her man, her everything, and it still felt like a dream. Cupping his face, she leaned her forehead against his as his body slammed into hers, knocking the door into the wall, taking every breath she had.

“I love you,” he whispered against her lips as her eyes drifted shut, the feeling of him so overwhelming that her body began to tense up again.

Holding on to him for dear life, she came, her body clenching his so hard, he paused, his hands gripping her side.

“Fuck, I love you so much,” he groaned and then he pulled her from the door, bending her over and fucking her hard from behind. Her body hung boneless as he slammed into her, the sound filling the bedroom and probably scaring Gretzky since he was howling from behind the door. But Kacey couldn’t worry about him, her boyfriend was pounding her and it was fucking amazing. As he bit into her back, he groaned hard, his body jerking into hers, filling her, as she milked him of everything he had. Pressing his chest to her back, his heart slammed against his chest, hers doing the same in her body as they both caught their breath.

Sitting up, he brought her with him, kissing her jaw as she gasped for breath.

“He shoots, he scores, twice in one night,” she teased and he grinned, cupping her face.

“This was my favorite goal,” he said, kissing her nose as he pulled out of her. Leaning over, he kissed her jaw again and then smacked her ass. “I think you wore me out.”

“I wore you out?” she laughed as he kissed her again before stumbling to the bed.

“Yes, I’m dead tired,” he said, falling onto the bed, his white ass in the air for all the world to see.

“Well, get up and go shower. You aren’t sleeping in my bed with sex all over you,” she said, smacking his ass hard. He hollered out as she giggled, running to the bathroom so he couldn’t get her ass. But when he didn’t follow her, she popped her head out to see that he was still lying in bed, his eyes closed. “Jordie! Come shower.”

“I’m coming,” he murmured, but she was pretty sure he wasn’t.

Rolling her eyes, she sat down to use the bathroom, her body still vibrating from their lovemaking. He was honestly the best lover she had ever had, and the thought that she would get to sleep with him for the rest of her life made her giddy.

Oh, the hearts that must be breaking, she thought as she giggled before she reached for toilet paper to wipe. Smiling to herself, she hollered out, “Jordie, seriously.”

“I’m coming,” he moaned again and she smiled.

But just as soon as the grin had come, it was gone as she held the toilet paper up. Something had caught her attention.

That something was bright red blood.

  Panic.

  That’s all Kacey felt.

Her stomach dropped. Her chest heaved and vomit rushed up her throat as she wiped again to see more bright red blood.

  No. No. Fucking no!

“Jordie!” she yelled, tears spilling over her cheeks as her chest seized and she swallowed hard, not allowing the vomit to surface.

  This wasn’t real.

  This wasn’t happening.

  There was no way.

No, this baby was supposed to make it!

  “Baby, I promise, I’m coming.”

“No, Jordie, I need you now!” she yelled, and something in her voice must have told him she wasn’t playing because he was in the bathroom within seconds. When he looked at what she was holding, his eyes met hers and she could see the panic in his eyes. It mirrored hers. Silence stretched between them as he looked from the blood to her face then back, unsure of what to do, she figured.

Because she had no clue what to do either.

“I’m bleeding, Jordie,” she cried out, sucking in a breath and then letting it out slowly. “I’m not supposed to be bleeding!” She sounded like a two-year-old having the biggest meltdown known to man, but she wasn’t thinking clearly. This wasn’t fair.

Sobbing, she looked up at him for help. He had to know what to do, because she was about to lose it. She wanted this child, she wanted it so fucking badly, but she was bleeding it out. Squeezing her thighs together, she let her face fall into her hands, praying that she could keep the baby in.

  It had to work.

“Okay,” he said as calmly as he could, but she knew it was taking all the will in him to stay calm. “Come on, let’s call the doctor. I’m sure it’s nothing, just a little hiccup. Come on, baby,” he said, urging her to move, but she wouldn’t budge.

“No, Jordie, I can’t move. I have to keep it in me,” she cried, and she felt his exhale of breath. It felt like defeat.

“Okay,” he whispered before he lifted her into his arms, holding her legs tightly as he carried her out of the bathroom. “I won’t let that happen.”

That did her in, and soon she was crying so hard, she couldn’t breathe.

“It’s going to be fine, let’s call the doctor,” he tried again, but she wasn’t listening. She couldn’t. Not even when she heard him on the phone did she believe him. Especially when he said they needed to get to the ER, that her doctor would meet them there. No, all she could do was hold her thighs together tightly.

Praying to God that he’d let her have this baby. That she’d never ask for anything else for the rest of her life.

Just keep my baby alive, she begged as Jordie slowly dressed her. When she watched him put a pad in her panties before sliding them up her thighs, she closed her eyes tightly, unable to understand this. As he slowly cleaned up the blood on her thighs, he was so careful and it only made her cry harder. He was trying so hard, but she could see it in his movements, his eyes, he was barely keeping it together. He was scared, but he couldn’t be as scared as she was. This was only his baby, but this was her life. Because she knew he wouldn’t stay. If she couldn’t have kids, he’d leave. No matter how much he loved her, she truly believed he’d find another reason to leave. He had always wanted kids, and his love for her, his need for her, was new. But a baby, no, that need had always been there.

And she may not be able to give him that.

Kacey cried the whole way to the hospital while Jordie held her close. As he carried her into the ER, she saw that Dr. Richards was waiting for the
m and directed them back without checking in. Or so she thought. Once Jordie laid her on the table, a nurse came in to get her info and it was beyond hard to talk to her. Jordie did most of the talking while still holding her and telling her that everything was going to be okay. She wanted to believe him, more than she wanted her next breath, but she just didn’t feel it. Dr. Richards looked worried, the nurse did too—but Jordie, while he was scared and a little panicked, when his eyes met hers she could see he believed that this baby was okay.

  That Kacey was okay.

“Doc, tell me she’s okay,” Jordie said as Dr. Richards listened to her heart while the nurse brought in an ultrasound machine and some other things. But it all seemed like a blur. She was staring at Jordie, memorizing his face as tears rushed down her cheeks.

“We are going to do a pelvic exam and check for a heartbeat, but I’m hopeful. Let me clean up and I’ll get started,” he said quickly as Jordie looked down at her. His shoulder fell as he cupped her face, leaning his forehead to hers.

“Baby, it’s fine. Please, calm down. Stop crying, you’re killing me here,” he begged, but her lip still quivered, her heart breaking.

“You’ll leave me,” she whispered, and his brow furrowed as he watched her.

  “What? Why?”

  “’Cause I can’t have kids.”

“Kacey, don’t say that,” he said quickly, but she shook her head.

“No, if I lose this baby, I doubt I’ll be able to keep anything, and you won’t stay with me. You love kids, want your own, and I can’t fucking give them to you,” she cried and he took ahold of her shoulders, shaking her gently.

“Fucking no, Kacey. Stop! You have to stop this. I’m with you for you, not for what you can give me as an extra bonus. Stop. Okay? Just stop.”

But her eyes fell shut as she sucked in a deep breath. “I just don’t want to lose you.”

“You aren’t. Stop,” he demanded, his voice sharp as she exhaled deeply, feeling like everything was leaving her body. Leaning forward, her face fell into his chest and he wrapped his arms around her, kissing her forehead. “Baby, I love you. I do, so much. Please, just stop thinking like this. You’re all I need,” he promised and she felt his words vibrating his soul.

  But did he mean them?

When Dr. Richards came back into the room, she figured she was about to find out.

“All right, lie back, Kacey,” he said and Jordie helped her lie down. “Oh, you still have panties on.”

Jordie let her go to take them off as she lay there, staring at the ceiling, begging the good Lord above to let this be a dream. Dr. Richards moved her feet into stirrups as Jordie came back to her head, his cheek against hers as the doctor slowly parted her thighs. She wanted to keep them squeezed together, but she figured it was no use. As much as she wanted to believe that the baby made it, she could still see the bright red of her blood.

A sign that her baby was gone.

When she felt the coldness of the goo on the probe, she closed her eyes tightly as Dr. Richards said, “So what happened? Did it happen out of the blue? Was it after sex?”

“Yeah, we had sex. She went to the bathroom and then found she was bleeding.”

“Okay,” he said and then he moved the probe in deeper, causing her eyes to close tighter. It didn’t hurt, but it sure as hell didn’t tickle. As he moved it again, he paused and then tapped her knee. “Kacey, I want you to look at this.”

Kacey didn’t move at first, but Jordie was there, moving her hair out of her face, wiping her tears as he said, “Baby, look.”

He moved out of her way and she rolled her head to the side to look at the screen. She had seen ultrasounds before and knew that on the screen was her baby. But when she saw the little flashing spot, she choked on a sob as Dr. Richards hit a button and the sound of a heartbeat filled the room.

Looking to Dr. Richards, she asked, tears gushing down her face, “My baby?”

He nodded. “Yup, it’s fine. Strong heartbeat.”

Kacey let out a sob as Jordie cupped her head, kissing the top. “Oh my God,” she cried as Jordie held her close.

“Now, let me see what is going on here,” the doctor said as he moved the probe around some more, but all she could do was stare into Jordie’s eyes.

  “Told you,” he said triumphantly.

She grinned up at him, exhaling hard as the weight of the world rolled off her shoulders. As she wrapped her arms around his neck, he pressed his lips to her forehead while they waited for the doctor to find out what was making her bleed. It didn’t take long though until he hollered out.

“Aha,” he said and then lifted his head from between her legs. “Cervical polyps are the cause of your bleeding, and it looks like one of them is infected.”

“Will the baby be okay?” she asked, a little frantic.

“Is she going to be okay?” Jordie asked at the same time and the doctor nodded.

“Yes, to both of those questions. We’ll run a course of antibiotics and then schedule to have them removed once you’ve had the baby,” he said before standing and tapping her knees. “You, my friend, are going to be fine now that we know what is going on. If it happens again, wait for cramping before you rush in, okay? But I think this little bit is a fighter, and we’ll be welcoming him or her at full-term.”

Kacey shook as she nodded, her heart still pounding in her chest. “Okay.”

“And take it easy, no hanging from the chandelier sex, okay?” he said with a grin and Jordie snapped his fingers.

“Shit, that was the only kind of sex I liked. Now, what will we do? Missionary?” he teased and that had them both laughing, except for Kacey. She was still trying to recover from losing her shit.

“Take it easy, okay?” Dr. Richards asked and she nodded.

  “No problem.”

“If it starts to happen a lot, then we’ll reevaluate. But let’s hope it doesn’t.”

  “Yeah, for sure.”

“Okay, good. You’ll go back home, okay? Get some rest. Great game tonight, Jordie,” the doctor said before sending them a wave and leaving the room. Sitting up, Kacey let out a long breath and then looked at Jordie. He was smiling, but his shoulders were still taut, his eyes still wild with worry.

“Well, that was intense,” she said and he nodded.

“Yeah, scared me shitless. Are you okay?”

She nodded, taking his hand in hers before kissing the back of it. “I am. Thank you. You were really there for me.”

His lips quirked up as he came to her, kissing her knuckles. “That’s my job.”

“You were really great though, thank you. That would have been much worse if I didn’t have you,” she admitted as she laid her head against his chest and his fingers threaded through her hair.

“I learned from the best, you know,” he whispered, kissing her forehead. “You’re always there for me, Kacey. I couldn’t even begin to pay you back for what you do for me.”

Her eyes closed as she hugged him tighter. They had such a great system, such a strong love, and she really felt that nothing could come near them. They had been through some shitty shit, and Lord knew it wasn’t anywhere near over. She had months of pregnancy left, Jordie still had to get to his one year. And amidst all that, they had to keep their love strong, and Jordie had to bring home the Cup. But they’d take it one day at a time.

And each day she’d fall more in love with him.

Holding his gaze, she cupped his face as her heart exploded with love for him. “Well, good thing we have each other then.”

Ten months ago, when she found herself in the ER in Colorado for a miscarriage, she never thought in her entire life that she’d be saying those words ever again.

  But she was.

And she couldn’t be any happier.

“Now, come on, let’s get home,” he suggested, helping her sit up even though she didn’t need him to. “I’ll stop and get you a Snickers and we’ll watch that movie of yours.”

She grinned. “You want to watch Notting Hill?”

He shrugged. “I will if you want to. I guess it’s growing on me. I like it when the chick begs for the guy back. I’m taking notes, you know,” he said with a wink and she laughed.

“You don’t need them,” she promised and he laughed.

“Eh, I don’t know. I might forget to put the toilet seat down or fall asleep when you’re talking or something else, no telling,” he teased and she giggled as she got up, feeling more in love with him than ever before.

“I’ll still love you, no speech needed.”

“I’m gonna hold that one for later,” he said with a wink and her heart soared.

  Hell, she loved this man.

  So damn much it hurt.

“So you think it’s a boy?”

Jordie looked over at Karson as they walked down the streets of Chicago, heading toward lunch with some of the guys. Karl was back at the hotel, sleeping since they’d had a late-night flight in. It was the season’s Fathers’ Trip and Karl was there for both Jordie and Karson. It was nice with him there, especially when he was wearing a shirt with both their names and numbers. Everyone teased him that he looked like a Little League dad, but he didn’t care. He was proud of his boys, as he said.

And it really meant a lot to Jordie that Karl was there for him too.

He hadn’t spoken to his mother since the parking lot when he found Kacey screaming at her. He was completely okay with that too. She had made a few Facebook posts, but he didn’t see them because he deleted her. Karl had though, and after cussing her out good one time, he deleted her too and cut off all contact. Jordie wanted to say he missed her, but he didn’t. He was too consumed with Kacey, the pregnancy, hockey, and his road to sobriety.

And everything was going the way he wanted it to.

“I know it is,” Jordie said confidently. “According to some of the books I’ve been reading, if the woman is carrying low, it’s a boy, high, a girl, and Kacey’s got a little gut at the bottom,” he added, his hand moving along the bottom of his stomach. “Hell, even Ma agrees.”
