I lean back against the washer, “So?”
“So, I want to take you with me,” I smile to myself. “I’ll be over in an hour to pick you up.”
“You’re kinda bossy.”
“Get used to it,” he says before he hangs up.
After showering and shaving every part of my body that needs the attention, I pull on the tightest pair of black jeans I own with a blue shirt that shows off the little bit of cleavage that I have. I skipped the panties and bra. Who the hell needs them anyways? I know Dane will be here soon and I’m nervous as hell, so I do the one thing I know will slightly calm my nerves for this date.
“Hey babe,” Blake says making me sigh. “Oh no, I know that sigh. What is it?”
“I’m nervous. Dane is on his way over to take me to a concert with Barbie.”
“Who the fuck is Barbie and why is her name literally Barbie?” I laugh.
“It’s one of the club member’s wife. Long story short, her parents thought she would be a blonde.”
“That’s stupid,” she says with way too much attitude.
“Calm down woman,” I laugh.
“Fine. So a concert huh? Who are you seeing?”
“No idea, but I look okay I guess. I’m wearing those really tight black jeans and a nice blue top, no bra….” I pause, “Or panties.”
“Oh! Someone’s hoping to get lucky tonight!”
“I’m praying for it,” she laughs. “This is our second date, but it feels like it’s not. I feel like we’ve already been on a hundred dates. We just click and it’s awesome, but I’m nervous.”
“Nervous because this might be the first time you bone?”
I roll my eyes even though she can’t see me. “Who says bone anymore?” I ask.
“I do, now answer the question!”
“I don’t think I’ll be nervous for that. Anxious, but not nervous.”
“Okay. Let me lay it out for you then,” she clears her throat like she’s getting ready to lecture me. “I think you are nervous because one, Dane makes you feel like this is too easy. Two, you have never been in a relationship with an honest man who actually cares about you. And finally three, you’re nervous because you are afraid of putting yourself out there again. Letting someone have all of you, especially someone who makes you feel a hell of a lot more than anyone ever has in your life, is scaring the crap out you. I know you too well. You’ll run, maybe not fully run away, but eventually you’ll find things that bother you and you’ll push a little here or there so much so that it’s barely even noticeable to anyone. Maybe Dane will notice, if he’s a smart man, which I think he is. You are terrified of being let down again and I get it. I totally know where you are coming from and I hate that you feel that way at all. You’re my best friend, so I’m going to give it to you straight and how I know you’ll know he’s the right one. You deserve a man who will stand by you even when you run. So run, Royce, and if Dane chases you then he’s the right man for you.”
“Wow,” I breathe, tears pricking at the corner of my eyes. “Thanks Blake.”
“I love you, babe. Just have fun and be you. If he doesn’t chase you then fuck that douche.”
“I love you too. Okay I think he’s going to be here soon and I still need to brush my teeth and now fix my make up.”
“Okay babe. Call me tomorrow!”
“I will,” I hang up.
Dane rolls up in my driveway on his bike exactly an hour after he calls. I’m standing by my window watching him get off the bike. He’s got on a pair of those dark jeans again and a nice dark blue shirt with a black leather jacket and his cut over that. He pulls his helmet off and I smile at the site of his hair being unruly from the helmet. He slowly walks up to the door, grinning when he catches me watching him.
The knock on the door is light cause he knows I’m close. I shuffle over to the door. Before I answer the door, I pull on the boots that go up to my knees and grab the leather jacket I pulled out of a very deep box off the rack by the door.
I take a couple deep breaths. When I pull open the door, my smile widens. “Hi,” I whisper. “You look really good.”
“You do too,” he reaches out his hand and pulls me against his body. My arms wrap around his neck, holding him to me as best I can. When he notices I’m not wearing a bra he groans but doesn’t take his eyes off the twins for a good twenty seconds. He shakes his head, “Are you ready?” he asks moving his lips down to mine.
“Not yet,” I whisper.
“Forget something inside?” I shake my head. “Why aren’t you ready?”
“Because I need this first,” I lift up on my toes bringing our lips together. I kiss his lips, the softness of his lips and beard against me makes chill bumps roll over my skin. At first, I just want it slow, but the smell of his cologne hits me and I can’t take it. I push my tongue into his mouth tangling mine with his. He groans and the sound makes me crazy with need. “Dane,” I whimper against his lips.
“I know, but we gotta go baby,” I kiss him harder when he calls me baby. I can’t get enough of his lips, his taste. His fingers dig into my sides and he literally tears himself off of me. “I want to so badly, Royce, but we have tickets and I’m not going to push my luck.” He’s still holding me close. “Are you ready?”
My smile is still there, “Yes,” I kiss him chastely before pushing passed him and heading for his bike.
“You don’t lock your door?” he yells out.
“I figured you still had a key,” I yell back, I grab the helmet off the back off his bike, which is obviously for me. I take my glasses off before pulling it on and securing it. I slip my glasses into the bag I have wrapped around me.
“I did, but you should make a habit of securing the door yourself,” he’s standing in front of me now. “Here,” he tugs on the straps under my chin then makes sure my bag is tight against me. “Wouldn’t want to lose that,” he smirks.
“It has my whole life in it,” he chuckles. “Ready to go,” I hold my arms wide. “Do I look like a biker chick?”
“Totally baby!” he puts on his helmet quickly then climbs on and holds his hand out for me. I take his hand and climb on behind him, “Hold on tight,” my arms go around his waist and I scoot as close to him as I can get.
The roar of the engine makes me clench my thighs around his waist and the feel of it is not helping with my libido. Dane backs us out of the drive way and takes off on the highway. I’m really enjoying being on the back of his bike with my whole body wrapped around him. This isn’t my first time on a motorcycle. Every time he turns on the road I lean with him. The sun is just setting over in the east and it’s beautiful. Dane chose to drive near the coast making the ocean visible from where we are riding. I wonder now, as we’re so close to a piece of the world I’ve never been to until recently, how I survived living in Kentucky without this.
Savannah isn’t a far drive from Miller Falls, we’re just outside the city limits when the sound of an approaching bike makes me turn my head around. The headlights make it hard to see who it is. Dane’s hand secures around my thigh and I look ahead again. “Who is it?” I yell. He doesn’t hear me cause his bike is too loud which makes me feel stupid for even attempting to talk while we ride.
As the sound gets closer, I get more nervous. I don’t know much about the Devil Patriots, but I do know they’ve been propositioned a couple times by a Savannah club to run drugs. It’s not something Dallas will ever do. I turn my attention to the side as the bike pulls up along side us. I let my body relax when I see it’s Barbie and Kayden. I’m kind of surprised not to see Luke with her or maybe her husband, though I’m not sure what the deal with her husband is.
Dane nods his head at Kayden before pulling away and picking up speed. We’re flying past cars, going inbetween some when we need to. My heart is pounding in my chest and I’m holding onto Dane for dear life. I can’t help the smile on my face.
We get into the parking lot of the venue ten minutes later. I’
m pretty sure I won’t be able to walk and Dane slides off the bike effortlessly. “That was fun,” I say.
“What?” he asks as he pulls off his helmet.
I pull mine off and smile up at him. “That was a lot of fun.”
“You like riding my bike baby?” I nod as he puts his hand into my hair and leans down towards me. “Good, I like having you there,” he kisses me.
Again the sound of another bike makes me jump and I pull away from Dane. “Why am I so jumpy?” I put my hand to my heart.
“I’m a scary guy,” Kayden announces. I roll my eyes as Barbie walks over to me. “Babe, give me your helmet,” Kayden tells her. She takes it off letting lose her dark hair hair and tosses it to him.
“Who are we seeing?” I ask Barbie. I climb off the bike and come eye to eye with her.
“Lana Del Ray,” my mouth drops open. “She’s so good in concert.”
“Lana freaking Del Ray?” I ask, kind of shocked.
“Yeah.” Barbie smiles wide pulling the tickets from her purse. “Here!”
“Oh my god. Lana is my favorite! Can we go in now? Come on!” I tug on her hand and pull her towards the entrance. She laughs at me, but keeps up perfectly. The boys have to run to catch up to us.
“Hey man, do they sell beer here?” Kayden asks Dane behind us. I’ve got my arm wrapped through Barbie’s, we’re a couple strides ahead of them.
“We’re not drinking,” Dane states and I turn around to gape at him. “We rode the bikes here it’s not a good idea.”
“One or two beers won’t hurt you,” Barbie says.
“Yeah man, it’s like a six-hour concert anyways,” Kayden says.
“One,” Dane uses the don’t fuck with me voice I’ve only heard a couple times.
“One beer. Sure man just one,” I’m sure Dane is scowling back at Kayden right now, but I don’t really care how many beers they have. I’m at a freaking Lana Del Ray concert!
Once we’re inside and all of our shit get’s checked, the guys get frisked, but when the security guard finds Dane’s gun strapped to his hip he get’s freaked out especially since he’s wearing his cut. “I’m a cop,” Dane states. When he goes to retrieve his badge from his back pocket the security guard pulls out his taser.
“Don’t move,” he yells. A couple of security guards hear him and rush over.
“What’s going on?” one of them asks the taser man.
“He’s got a gun,” I see Dane roll his eyes and he never does that so I know he’s annoyed.
Douche number two pulls his taser out next. “Look man I’m a…” Kayden starts, but the other douche bag holds his hand up. “For fucks sake we’re both cops.”
“Show me your badge,” douche number one says.
“That’s what I was going for, you idiot.” Dane reaches back into his pocket and pulls it out. He hands it over to the guy who inspects it thoroughly. “Can I have that back please?”
“You can’t bring your guns in here,” douche two says handing back the badge after he gets a good look at it.
“Georgia state law says that any police officer off duty and carrying a gun can enter any venue, restaurant, bar, government building, or movie theater as long as the gun is not out in the open. We’ve both got ours under our clothes,” Kayden says, “So yes we can bring them in here.” He also pulls his badge out and hands it over.
“We need to check with our supervisor,” douche two says. “One moment,” he turns and walks off, two more security guards come over and stand by us. I wrap my arm around Dane’s waist and lean my head against his chest.
“I’m sorry baby,” he kisses my forehead. “It’ll be over soon.”
“It’s fine. I just hate that they are being so rude about I,” I look up at him and smile. “We could make out while we wait,” I suggest.
“Ew, don’t please,” Kayden says from beside us. “I can’t un-hear that,” he rubs his ears.
We all stand there waiting like a bunch of criminals for a good ten minutes before a couple of cops come over. One of them puts his hand out to Dane. “Dane, what’s up? I haven’t seen you since we got back.” Dane pulls him in for a hug.
“Four years?” I ask. “How you been, Boot?” the guy laughs when he calls him Boot.
“Doing good, man. Got a kid on the way,” Dane smiles wide and almost looks a little jealous.
“So you married her, huh?” Dane shoves his hands into his pockets.
“I did. What about you?” the cop gestures to me. “This your girl?”
“This is Royce,” Dane says, I give him a look when I put my hand out to shake the cops. “Royce, this is Boot.”
“Real name’s Chester,” I shake his hand.
“Nice to meet you, Chester. This is my brother Kayden and Barbie,” his eye brows perk up.
“Almost like Ken and Barbie. I know,” Barbie says putting her hand in his. “Lucky for me I don’t have to introduce this guy all that often.”
Kayden laughs. “Good thing for you?” he asks. “You wish you could get rid of me,” he shakes Frank’s hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“Y’all too. So, I’m actually here on duty,” Frank says. “You guys are strapped?”
“Yes,” Dane says. He puts his arm back around me and slips his hand into the back pocket of my jeans. I like that way too much. “We’re allowed to,” he sounds pissed.
“Yes you are. I just need to see the badges,” Dane uses the hand not around me and pulls his badge out again, he hands it over. “Sorry about this, bro.”
“It’s fine. I would do the same,” Dane says.
The other cop checks Kayden’s. “We’re good,” he says.
“Yes we are,” Frank hands back the permit to Dane. “Still in Miller Falls?”
“Thank you and yes,” Dane puts it back into his wallet. “I’ll have to come visit soon. The wife’s been meaning to get me to take her on a vacation. Heard y’all have some good trails,” Frank says.
Dane clearly is annoyed at this point. “Course man give me a call,” he shakes Chester’s hand again.
“Good to see you. Have a good night.”
Once Chester and his buddy give the security douche bags the okay we get to go through. Dane mumbles, “Asshole’s.”
“The cops or the security?” Kayden asks.
“Both. Chester is part of that motor cycle club here that’s been trying to get us to run with them,” Dane tells Kayden. “He’ll phone in that we’re here.”
“Shouldn’t be a problem though. Luke isn’t—” Kayden stops when he see’s who’s standing just inside the door. “Fuck Barbie, did you have tickets for the whole club?”
“No. Just six,” Barbie says. The girl Luke has I’ve never seen before and I don’t really care much for the whole club whore thing. She seems like she’s right up that ally. “Who’s the whore?” Barbie asks Kayden.
“No one babe.” Kayden wraps his arm around Barbie before pushing past Luke who gives him a dirty ass look.
“What’s up?” Luke asks Dane. “You have trouble?”
“It’s fine, let’s find our seats,” Dane pulls me with him when he goes to follow Kayden and Barbie.
When Kayden and Barbie show the ushers the tickets I get really freaking excited cause the guys take us to the floor, then all the way up into the pit. “The pit!” I yell at Barbie. “You got us tickets in the pit!”
Barbie laughs at my excitement. “They were a gift from my husband’s parents. He was supposed to be here but…” she whispers to me.
“This is so awesome,” I hug her tightly. “Thank you.”
Barbie smiles, “Of course.”
“We’re gonna go get beers,” Dane whispers in my ear. “You gonna stay here?” he asks.
“Yes baby,” he grins wide when I call him baby. “Thank you,” I kiss him before he leaves, following Kayden and Luke to the bar.
Barbie and I aren’t super close to the front, but it doesn’t seem to matter from her. You can see all of the
stage and I’m pretty sure Lana will put on an amazing show. “So Dane and you, huh?” Barbie asks. It’s not loud in here yet and everyone is leaving a space between us which is nice.
“Yeah, he’s been around I guess,” I smile as I say this.
“You guess? That man has it bad for you.”
“I have it bad too,” I admit.
“You girls are no fun at all,” the whore says. We both look over to her. She’s a cute kid, probably twenty-two or younger. I can’t imagine why Luke brought her along at all. “I’m gonna go find the boys.”
“Go ahead,” Barbie waves her off. Once she’s out of sight we turn back to the stage. “She’s such a bitch.”
“Why did he bring her?” I ask. “She doesn’t seem all that friendly.”
“She isn’t. I’m pretty sure she’s been passed around to every man in the club who isn’t married and is willing.” I make a gagging sound, which makes Barbie laugh.
“What about you and Kayden?” I ask.
She laughs even harder. “Kayden is my husbands best friend. He’s the only guy I could’ve asked to come without getting into trouble.”
“Where is your husband?” I ask.
“He’s on assignment for Dallas. He’s been gone for a while now, there is another Death Patriots club in Tennessee. I have a job and some of my family is here so I couldn’t go with him. I’m also pretty sure he wasn’t supposed to be gone this long.”
“I don’t think I could do that. Just waiting for my other half to come home.”
“Well it’s not so bad. I’ve done it for awhile now. He always volunteers to go off.”
“Why?” Before she can answer the boys come back. We both look at each other, a silent promise to pick this up later.
“Here you go,” Dane hands me a beer and I sip it. I’m not a huge fan of beer, but I drink it sometimes.
“Thank you,” I lean up and kiss him on the cheek. His breath smells like whiskey and I laugh at him. “Did you take a shot?”
“The guys made me,” he nods towards Luke. “Luke brought a flask in his boot.”
I look over at Luke “Where’s my shot big bro?” he laughs and pulls it out of his back pocket and tosses it to me. I unscrew the cap and put the flask to my lips. Dane and I keep eye contact while I take a swig of it. I love the burn it causes as it slides down my throat. I toss it back to Luke and with a brave smile and some liquid courage I get on the tips of my toes to kiss Dane. He doesn’t seem to mind and actually wraps his arm around me. I kiss him hard, too much for when my brothers are around.
