  “What about the DNA sample?”

“I collected it when I got the blood you’re all done.”

“Thanks.” Her eyes met hers before they slipped away and she focused on the bar.

“I know what it feels like to be hunted. To know death may be waiting for you around the corner.” Cait leaned over and hugged her before she headed for the door.

“I like her.” She placed her head on the bar.

“I promised you could replace my bed, buy a headboard as well a redecorate. I think we should go.”

“I…I like that idea.” She slid off the bar stool and stood with a half-smile on her face.

“I’ll see you later Deja. See you all later.” She walked over to Ven and gave him a hug.

He hugged her hard rocking her slightly. “When I was young they wanted to kill me because of what I was. My father and Declyn saved my life. I understand.”

The words got caught in her throat, all she could do was nod because she could feel the sincerity in every word he said. He let her go, and she followed Declyn out the club.

He didn’t say anything as they drove through the barrier or out the city until they were parked in a nice area with a stream running through it. He took her hand before he grabbed a cover from the back seat. They walked until they were close to the stream. He laid out the blanket and helped her sit down.

“I thought we were going shopping not that I’m complaining.”

“I wanted to spend some time with you where it was just the two of us.”

She scooted over towards him, and he met her in the middle placing his arms around her.

“Do you remember that conversation we had about whether I’m Alpha or not?”

  “I do.”

“I think if I were Alpha I would have handled this situation better.”

“I think there is a misconception about what it means to be Alpha. Many times, we think the person who seems to be in charge, the loud mouth person is Alpha. When the real conflicts start, she is the person up front, but she’s not the Alpha. The Alpha is the one who promises to pick up her phone when her friend in need calls. She stands up to the bully while the others step back because she is called to take care of those around her. They’re her people, and she will be the one to stand in the gap.”

“My mom used to say that. Continue standing in the gap Fire it will serve you well.”

“Your mom is a smart female.”

  “Was.”

  “If you say so.”

“How is it that you know how to make me feel better?”

That’s what a mate was for, but she wasn’t ready for that truth yet.

  “I want to kiss you.”

  “What’s stopping you?”

He changed positions opening his legs and drawing her inside them before he lowered his head to place a kiss on her lips. It was gentle at first a slow exploration of her closed lips. A soft touch getting to know the silken feel of her skin. She sighed at the feel of his lips. The hardness covered by the softness that made her open with such abandon.

He pursued her taking advantage of the opening she gave him. His tongue slipped in caressing her tongue getting to know the silkiness of her mouth. He sucked on her tongue coaxing a moan from her. She dueled with him her tongue moving against his deepening the kiss.

He laid back pulling her on top of his body. She snuggled on top of him getting comfortable. She trailed down the side of his cheek placing kisses on him until she came to his neck. She stopped there to breathe in his scent. His hand went to her back holding her close before he flipped her.

Her eyes were glazed as she looked at him.

“I love the scent you give off. It’s sensual, it attracts me in a way I’ve never experienced before. It’s better than walking down the aisle in the mall with all the cologne for men.”

“Thank you Alpia. I find your scent just as appealing. It calls to me, drawing me closer to you.” He dragged his tongue down the side of her neck. Her eyes closed as her head moved to the side giving him better access.

A small growl fluttered against her neck making the lips of her pussy spasm with need.

  “You’re making me hot.”

“I like the sound of that.”

She gave a small laugh as her hands traveled up and down his back looking to slip underneath the shirt he was wearing. Her fingers teased him.

“Keep that up, and you’ll get more than you bargained for.” He growled that in her ear as a shiver went through his body.

“Promises, promises.” Her smile gave away the pleasure she was feeling and the way her eyes sparkled told him she was feeling free.

“I like promises.” He gave her a small bite on her shoulder before he kissed down to her chest and over to the base of her neck. He licked at the pulse there feeling how her heart was racing.

  “Is this all for me?”

She nodded enjoying the way his voice touched her nerves and raced through her body. She felt like she had been waiting for him forever and when he touched her or spoke to her, it was like she was welcoming him home.

“Why do I feel like I know you?” Her voice was low and sensual.

“Because you do. I feel the same way. As if we were always connected but lost each other and have spent our lives looking for the other.”

She nodded in agreement even as the practical parts of her mind told her it was impossible. Only dreamers believed in things like that, and she was as practical as they came.

He kissed down her body until her cami met him. “I want to strip you naked, but I won’t chance someone walking up and gazing at your beautiful body.”

  “You sound jealous.”

He looked at her, his green eyes blazing. “I don’t want to share you. Why would I share the female who holds my heart in her hands?”

Her heart beat even faster as she blinked her eyes real fast. She could fall for him.

  You’re lying to yourself.

  Yep, and you hate liars.

  You’re falling for him.

You may have already fallen for him.

Look at how we are responding to him.

They were right. She was falling for him, but she couldn’t let him know that. Not with someone out to kill her.

“You humble me.” She meant every word that she said. No one had ever treated her like he was treating her.

He pushed her cami up along with the cups of her bra and took a nipple into his mouth sucking it hard. A high-pitched cry of pleasure came from her lips. He bit her nipple, and her head rocked from side to side with intense pleasure-pain. He repeated it on her other nipple, and her hands gripped his hair holding him close demanding he do it again.

Sounds of pleasure came from her that she tried to keep low to keep from drawing unnecessary attention to them.

“Every sound you make strikes my body like lightening making me harder for you, hotter for you.” His voice was low and guttural hitting her right in her pussy making her weep with need.

Her hands stroked his scalp not wanting to let go of his hair as they convulsed. He moved kissing down her body worshipping her with his mouth and hands

“I love your skin, it’s soft and smooth, and so sensitive. Look how you jump when I kiss or lick you. It’s like pure pleasure when I place soft bites on you, the sounds you make drive me crazy.”

She tried to make coherent words, but they were lost in the sensations he was rousing in her body. It wasn’t like she didn’t know this could happen but it never happened to her like this before. She had heard about it, women whispered about finding the right man that loved you to the point that you couldn’t think straight, but she thought it was a dream. Something they talked about as wishful thinking. Now she knew better.

Declyn was taking her to places she’d never been before. Her skin was on fire for him. Each time he touched her he put out the fire giving her a temporary relief before he drove the blaze even higher. Her hips were thrusting upwards looking for that moment of
perfect nirvana when he would push her over the edge. Her stomach was demanding his sweet touch one more time as he licked her and gave her gentle bites that made her so sensitive that when he ran his hands over her flesh incoherent words come from her lips.

He was moving further down, and she wanted to weep with joy even as she kept thrusting her hips upward not wanting to miss the ultimate prize. If he stopped now, she would have to hurt him. When his hands went to the button on her jeans her breath caught in her throat. Yes, yes, please yes.

He unsnapped and then unzipped. She raised her hips. There might have been a time when she would have thought about this, told herself it was too soon, but not with Declyn. He felt different, they had already gone through too much together. He pulled her jeans down and stopped pressing her hips back to the ground.

His hand came up and traced her panties. She waited to see if he would be disappointed she was wearing bikini panties instead of a thong. When he buried his nose in her panties her thought of what she was wearing disappeared.

“Declyn?” He caught her panties in his teeth and began pulling them down.

Her breath caught in her throat he knew how to make her feel like a queen. His tongue came out and licked her before he caught her clit and sucked it.

The harder he sucked, the harder her body convulsed. He stopped and looked up at her.

“Am I doing it right? I learned that this small button exists to give the female pleasure.”

“You’re doing it just right.” Her voice was hoarse with desire.

The smile on his face made the butterflies in her stomach run amok. He lowered his head taking her clit between his teeth he bit down just enough to cause her body to rock with an orgasm that made her scream to the top of her lungs.

Her hands grasped his shoulders as she felt intense pleasure rock her. She found herself visiting all the places she drew from her dreams. She stood on the black sands of the beach she drew and watched the natives swim as pleasure worked its way through her body. She swam through space until she stood shoulder to shoulder with her mother who introduced her to her mate. A tear of happiness and one of sadness left her eyes as her soul was pulled back to her body where Declyn was licking her pussy his fingers were delving deep. Before she could say anything, he drove her over the edge one more time.

She screamed in pleasure as once again she journeyed to a planet she was sure didn’t exist.

  Chapter Fourteen

She opened her eyes to find herself fully clothed and lying on Declyn’s chest.

“Hi.” Her voice was soft as she rubbed his chest.

“Hi.” His voice rumbled underneath her making her feel like she was home. “You fell asleep.”

She laughed, that was a pretty way of saying she passed out. The pleasure had been intense and the things she had seen. If it hadn’t happened to her, she wouldn’t have believed it.

“That’s some powerful ninja tricks you have there.” Her mouth quirked up in a smile.

  “Ninja tricks?”

“Just take it as a compliment and say thank you.”

  “Thank you.”

  “See you can learn.”

He chuckled and closed his eyes.

  “What’s going on here?”

She turned her head to see an officer standing over them. Declyn didn’t open his eyes, but his body language also didn’t change. She was going to take her cues from him and right now he wasn’t feeling threatened.

“Nothing officer, we’re just taking a break enjoying the sun and the wind.”

The officer looked around. “No picnic basket?”

“We weren’t planning on staying long.”

  “What about him?”

  “Wolf?”

He opened his eyes and grinned at her.

“We’re about to leave officer. Alpia’s day has been hard, I wanted to give her a chance to relax, but now we are going shopping. She wants to redo the bedroom. What she wants she gets. You understand?”

“Yeah, I do. Happy wife, happy life.”

  “Yes.”

  “Have a good day.”

  “Has something happened around here?”

The officer stopped a debate was going on behind his eyes. “It depends on who you talk to. Not too long ago we had some trouble out here where a female killed herself several miles away. That should be the end of the story, but several people swear something dark is hunting the forest. They say you can’t see it, but it’s out here. No one believes them, but more and more stories are coming in.”

“Do you believe them?” Fire’s eyes were wide when she asked the officer.

“Sometimes when its dark and you’re quiet you can almost feel a presence breathing on your neck.” He shook himself. “Ignore me I read to many horror novels.”

She smiled at him. “I know what you mean. Stay safe.”

“I will. Take your woman shopping.” He waved at them and walked away.

She stood up and reached for the blanket as he watched her fold it before they started back to the car.

  “What was that about?”

“I don’t really understand it. It may sound silly or strange.”

“I’d like to hear it anyway.”

She nodded as they got in the car and he took off.

“More than once when I was in the hallway outside my apartment door I thought something was standing behind me. I would turn around, but nothing was there. I would swear if only I could move faster I would be able to see it. I know it sounds strange, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched. I had it the night I came to The Wolves Den. I thought it was Ron following me, but now I wonder.” She shrugged, “Probably nothing but an overactive imagination. Just like the pictures I paint.”

He gave a non-committal shake of his head. He might have been willing to believe her before she compared the feeling to the pictures she drew. Each one he had seen was a real planet with the real inhabitants being featured so whatever was happening here had the possibility of being real, as well as being something he never heard of before.

She looked up when he stopped the car.

“You were serious about letting me redo the bedroom?”

  “Yes.”

“Can we pull the carpet up and replace it with wood?”

“There’s already wood under the carpet. I think you’ll love it.”

“Why did you put carpet over it?”

“One day I thought it was hard and it reminded me of being on the ship, stark with no feeling.”

“I’m sorry, we don’t have to pull it up.”

“Let’s try it, somehow I don’t think it will be hard, and stark with you around.”

“If you don’t like it well get more carpet pronto.”

  “It’s a deal.”

They walked into the store and made their way to the section with bedroom furniture walking hand in hand. Fire found herself walking closer to Declyn the further they walked into the store.

He looked around, the eyes that were trained on her all turned away.

  “What’s happening?” she whispered.

“You.” Declyn stopped a large man. “Why were you staring at my female?”

  “I wasn’t staring at her.”

“I assumed it was innocent until you lied to me.”

“Let him go you brute, it’s not against the law to look.” The female was tiny but forceful.

“Maybe you will tell me why he was staring.”

“Some men came around with a picture of her and said she was being held against her will, except she doesn’t look like she’s being held against her will.”

“That’s because I’m not. Thank you for telling me. Those are probably the same men that blew the door off my balcony and killed my friend.”

“Sounds like you’re in trouble, especially since they offered a large reward for any information about you.”

“Of course, they did. They’ll never stop. We have to tell Detective Baker about this.”r />
“We will. Thank you for all your help.”

“You’re welcome, who knows we may meet again.”

  “That was strange.”

“I’m beginning think it’s all been strange, starting with Deja finding us. Let’s get started shopping.”

They started with the bed frame and quickly went to pick out a mattress and box spring together. She had to laugh when a sales person made her way over to them. They must have bounced on one mattress to many.

  “Hi, can I help you?”

“Sure, we’re designing a master bedroom from the floor up.”

That did it. The look on the saleswoman's face said they could bounce on any bed they wanted, twice. It took them about three hours, but when they left, she was sure they had everything they need for a great master bedroom.

“Are you sure it will all fit?”

  “It will fit.”

“Fire, when I say run, run.”

  She nodded.

“Run!” She took off towards the car which wasn’t parked that far away from them. She refused to turn her head and look for the threat she stayed focused on the car. She grabbed the door opening it. Her leg was in the car when she felt something enter her arm. Nausea rolled through her body as she tried to pitch herself forward enough to get into the car. Declyn caught her before she fell out and pulled her inside. He started the car still holding onto her doing a swift turn to make the door slam shut before he let her go and gunned the car in the direction of the man holding the rifle aiming at him.

The man flung himself to the side, but he clipped his leg before he turned around and left the parking lot.

  “Enzo?”

“Declyn? Where the hell are you?”

“I’m coming in hot. Tell Tristan and Cait to be ready. They hit Fire with a tranq.”

  “I’ll have them ready.”

Three mates three problems. He turned to look at her. Was it all coincidence or was there something bigger brewing underneath the surface. Two of the mates who were totally human turned into ancient beings who have not been seen in the galaxy for over a millennium. How was that possible? It was only two mates it wasn’t like it was an epidemic. Still, how did human females suddenly become more and why were they ignoring that fact?
