When A Hood Legend Claims It All 2

“Don’t keep her waiting,” Amena hissed with an eye roll.
“She not waiting on me.”
My phone ringing again had Amena remove herself from my arms.
“Apparently she is.”
Following her out the bathroom, I silenced the call, but seconds later it rang again. This time from a number I didn’t have saved. I answered it.
“Who is this.”
“Wesley, this is Kesha’s father. We’ve been trying to reach you for hours. She was admitted into Emory University.”
“What happened?” I asked stopping in my tracks. The sound of my voice had Amena’s attention even though she couldn’t hear what was being said on the other line.
“Tell him to get down here, now!”
I shook my head from the sound of her mother's voice. Kesha’s father released a deep breath before continuing. “I think it’s best you get down here with Kesha. As soon as possible. I can have a private jet set up for you in a couple hours. Bring a change of clothes.”
“What the fuck–”
The phone went dead before I could ask any more questions. I slipped my phone in my pocket and approached Amena with a kiss who moved her head and offered a perturbed glare.
“Go handle ya business.”
Nudging me away from her, Amena went over to her desk and began to sort through papers.
“Bye,” she said with finality that had me heading out her office. I wasn’t about to kiss her fucking ass.
Amena
Lifting my phone, I went to go text Wesley but placed it back down on my desk telling myself it wasn’t worth it.
“Pull it together, Amena,” I said out loud to myself.
Just as I placed my phone back down, my phone rang and I silenced it seeing it was Jake who was still begging to get back with me.
How can I complain about Jake when I was settling for this? I was upset that he was cheating behind my back but completely fine with knowing Wesley said he wanted me but had an attachment to another woman. That was insane.
“Who was that fine ass man walking up out of here before business hours,” my assistant Jill asked with a look of curiosity mixed with lust in her eyes. Even with her being the closest thing to a friend I had no intentions on divulging any information about us.
Nibbling on my bottom lip, I took a seat at my desk trying to quickly figure out what to actually say without making it sound like a complete lie.
“Amare’s friend. He came to drop something off for him.”
As I logged into the computer to double check in the list of clients I had for the day alongside of making sure our many business accounts was in order, Jill eyed me before a smirk appeared on her face. “Well damn, since I can’t have him I guess his friend will be the next best thing. He’s fine as fuck.”
As annoyed as I was with Wesley, I didn’t appreciate anyone else checking for him. I fought back the urge to curse Jill’s ass out. “He’s taken.”
“What that got to do with me? There’s more men than women in the world so some of them have to double or triple up.”
I gave a faint laugh instead of saying what I really wanted to say. We weren’t quite friends but she was so open and free with her sexuality she made it clear if a man or woman was taken and she wanted them she found a way to get them. I made it clear to her that I wasn’t swinging that way for anyone. She respected it thankfully. Getting to know her was hilarious because she was funny and so open with who she was but at this moment nothing she said amused me.
Realizing I wasn’t in the mood, she left out of my office. I began to gather up the files I needed so I could be ahead of the game. I also need to occupy my mind and stop myself from going crazy over Wesley.
“Mena, Jake is on line one.”
“Okay, I got it,” I said after sighing. I wanted to tell him I wasn’t there but it was better for me to cut things off with Jake for good instead of ducking him like a bad habit.
“Jake, I am busy.”
“For a simple for conversation?”
“Yes, now what do you want?” I asked flipping my wrist to see how long I had before my first client arrived. I wanted a drink but that would only put me deeper into my feelings and sleepy, so I made my mind up to grab a frappé from Starbucks. At least the sugar would be pleasant and the caffeine content will be enough to get me through the day.
“I want you. Why are you making me work this hard for a simple mistake?”
“Simple mistake? People don’t cheat on purpose. There are behaviors that lead up to it all of which are wrong. If you gotta sneak behind my back and do something you’re very aware it shouldn’t be happening which doesn’t make it a mistake.”
Jake sighed and I rolled my eyes. “Look, I am at work and I would appreciate it if you didn’t call my job phone. I have a cell phone for that reason.”
“A phone you don’t answer!” he added angrily.
“Look I gotta go.”
“No! Wait! Look, Amena, I’m really sorry. I only called to see if you were still going to come get your dress fitted for the dinner.”
Biting my lip, I thought about the beautiful gown his mother purchased for me for this immaculate dinner she planned. I loved that woman dearly. It was her son who I didn’t fuck with.
“Yes. Now let me get back to work,” I told him.
“Thank you! She will be happy.”
Without responding I ended the call walking out of my office and told Jill I was making a coffee run. I told her to text me her order and headed down the street.
Once I felt the heat, I regretted the fact I didn’t drive even though it was around the corner. I fanned myself feeling like my BB cream was going to melt right off my face.
Since I was already halfway there, I kept walking figuring I needed to burn off the negative energy from both of the men in my life. Times like this I wished I could be open to Amare because a man’s input would’ve been beneficial at the moment.
“What are the odds? I didn’t think I’d ever run into you again.”
I stopped in my tracks and took in the guy I remembered I was dancing with at the club. The same guy Wesley attacked. I immediately felt bad all over again because of the whole ordeal. I was so pressed in making him jealous I didn’t care I was actually toying with his life.
“Hey, how are you?” I asked just to be polite.
He rubbed his chin with a charming smile on his face. “My face doesn’t hurt as bad as it did before. Other than that I’m well.”
“I’m so sorry about it.”
“It’s all good, if my girl was dancing all up on another man I would’ve snapped too.”
“Girl? Wesley isn’t my man,” I said before I even realized it came out of my mouth. “He’s more like family more than anything.”
I literally had diarrhea at the mouth standing in front of this man. Probably because now that we weren’t under the dim club lights and took him in, I actually liked what I saw.
His toasted chai latte colored skin looked tanned under the bright sun which made his hazel green eyes shine like gems. He gave me the same vibe of a sophisticated adult and between childish ass Jake and the womanizing thug Wesley, I was ready for someone else to occupy my time with.
Amare came to mind on whether he would allow me to date him, but I pushed the thought to the back of my mind.
I’m grown!
I watched club guy scour my body with his eyes which had me shifting in my stance and biting my lip again.
“With that being said, that means I have a shot? I’ve been dying to run into you again.”
“Really? Why is that? I don’t even know your name.”
“My name is Trey. And since seeing you in the club I couldn’t get you out of my head. Something is telling me you’re one of a kind and if you have a bunch of men guarding you with their life you gotta be someone special.”
I blushed from his observation. “See that smile, that’s what I want to be able to put on your face every da
y,” he explained further . “Were you headed somewhere? It’s hot as hell standing out here talking to you.”
“Yeah, I was running to Starbucks before I got started with work.”
“Cool, my treat,” he stated holding his hand out so I can lead the way.
Together we walked to the Starbucks and as he promised he purchased our drinks. During the slow amble back to my job we both shared a little bit about each other that had me very intrigued. On paper he was the ideal man, no kids, owns his own business, and single! It sounded great but time together would really tell if he was worth it.
“Well… this is my job,” I said not really wanting him to go but I’ve noticed my first client Mrs. Betty struggling to park her car down the street. She was going to be in any minute.
“I was hoping the walk was longer. I’d hate to see you go.”
Again, he flashed that smile that had me squirming.
“This doesn’t have to be the last time you see me.”
“Give me your number so I can take you out. You deserve a date. This stroll for this Latte wasn’t good enough.”
Trey slipped his phone out of his pocket and I rattled off my number to him and then called my phone so I can lock him in as well.
“What time do you get off work. I don’t want to text you while you’re working.”
“I should be done at five, but it’s cool. I have down time between clients and besides when you’re the boss you kind can do what you want,” I stated and he laughed.
“You’re right about that. I’ll let you get to work beautiful. You will be hearing from me later.”
Trey leaned in and pecked my cheek. I closed my eyes inhaling his cologne. I stood in the same spot watching him leave and spotted that he got inside of a Mercedes and drove off.
I was eager to get this text message. There was nothing like adding another nigga to the roster because my line up was getting shitty.
Pitt
“Shit… yeah… just like that Coco. Suck them balls.”
When I felt the licking stopped it registered in my head, what I just said followed by Trina sucking her teeth loudly.
“You done lost your goddamn mind nigga! I’m between your legs and you calling me another bitch’s name!” Trina shot up from off her knees and walked into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.
I leaned back on the headrest of the bed I was in. The work I had wasn’t moving because everyone was going to Mar for their product which meant money was tight. I was currently on the Boulevard at the Days Inn stuck with this damn girl until I figured out a plan.
Trina was cool, but now that she ain’t have no source of income, lost her place and had the nerve to quit her job I was stuck footing the bill for everything. To make matters worse is that Yvette was nowhere to be found. After the incident at the Salon she disappeared on me. I needed her bad and was blowing up her phone every day. She was the only person standing between me and Black since he didn’t want to have any more meetings with me now that she was out and home.
I was stressed out missing my girl Corryn and losing my damn wife in the blink of an eye. Not too long ago I was on the top of the world and now I was slowly crumbling to my knees.
Feeling desperate, I picked up my phone off the shabby night stand and dialed up Yvette again. It went straight to voicemail.
“Pick up the damn phone, Yvette. I’m sick of these fucking games. We are still married, and you’re carrying my baby so act like it!”
The bathroom door swung open as I tossed my phone to the side of me. This shit was killing me. I don’t know what’s gotten into her, but she needed to get that shit together quick.
“Who’s carrying your baby?”
“I’m not in the mood, Trina.”
Standing at the side of the bed, she had her hands on her hips and her head cocked to the side.
“I don’t think you get the fact that I gave up everything for you. I ended my friendship and quit my job. Don’t have me regretting this.”
“I’m not. I appreciate you rocking with me.”
“Do you really? You just called me Corryn and last time I checked you didn’t want her.”
“I don’t,” I responded dryly. The more she ranted the more she sounded like Yvette who needed to answer her phone.
“Good because that would be fucked up. I’ve been the one helping you while she tried to act like an uppity bitch and drain you for your money. You see how she left you for Amare? I would never do that to you.”
Hearing her mention Corryn being with that nigga had me gritting my teeth. I was still fucking pissed. Just as I was about to say something, my phone vibrated on the bed and I lit up seeing that it was Yvette.
Trina was breaking her neck to see who it was. I snatched it up off of the stale ass sheets and left out of the motel room.
“You better have a good reason why you’ve done up and disappeared,” I barked stomping down the hall as I looked over my shoulder to make sure Trina wasn’t following me.
“We need to talk, Peter.”
“You damn right we need to talk. We’re on the phone now, so tell me where the fuck are you?”
Yvette laughed. “If I were you I wouldn’t be talking to me that way.”
Pinching the bridge of my nose I inhaled a deep breath. I had to remind myself that I needed her and arguing wasn’t going to get her back to me. Low key, I was losing my mind. It felt like my life turned upside down in a matter of weeks.
Amare took my connect, and my girl. My wife left me and is talking mad crazy and now I was stuck with a trick I really didn’t want. All I was trying to do is get back in the game so I can get some money. Fuck these bitches. They were nothing but a headache.
“Do you want to meet in person?”
“Yes, that’s fine. Meet me at the warehouse.”
Before I could respond. Yvette hung up on me.
Squeezing my phone in my hand I returned to the hotel room with Trina in my face.
“Who was that?”
“My cousin,” I grumbled.
“You had to leave out of the room to speak to your cousin?”
“It was about business.”
“You had business conversations in front of me plenty of times. What’s changed? Unless you were probably talking to Corryn.”
“Look, would you just shut the fuck up?!” I barked grabbing my keys off the nightstand so I could leave. “I’ll be back. Go find yourself something to do.”
***
Pulling up to the warehouse, I’ve noticed Yvette was sitting in her car waiting for me. Once she noticed I arrived, she got out and closed the door behind her. Staring at her, the time apart made me realize just how much I missed her. However, I was still fucking pissed at her just up and leaving.
“So are you going to tell me where the fuck you have been?” I barked slamming my car door shut behind me.
“Well hello to you too Pitt,” she smirked crossing her arms under her breast. “You don’t seem too thrilled to see me.”
“Cut the shit, Yvette. What kind of wife and mother are you–”
“Don’t pull that wife shit!” she spat. “I wasn’t your wife when you was fucking bitches while I was in jail and there’s no baby.”
My eyes bulged. “What do you mean there’s no baby?”
“I lied, Peter. Just to keep you, I fucking lied. but now that I got the chance and space to think about it you’re not worth the fucking headache!”
My hands balled up at my side as I glared at her. I wanted to wrap them around her neck and strangle her. I have never been so livid in my life I wanted to kill her and that nigga Amare. Yvette was acting like an ungrateful bitch. Soon as I got some money I knew who I could hit up to get rid of that problem.
“You got the game fucked up. I don’t know what you been up to where you done forgot who the fuck I am.”
“Just another broke nigga with his feelings hurt,” she spat. “I had so much time to think about how much I invested in yo
u and lost it all. Look at this! You see the mess you created, Peter? Pounds of bad coke just sitting and because of you I owe Black thousands of dollars!” Yvette exclaimed.
“You done?” I chuckled shaking my head.
“Yes! I’m done with you.”
“It ain’t over until I said it’s over, Yvette. You took all that time away to get the courage to say some shit like that? What you gonna do? You think you're gonna push weight? Just like no one wanted to fuck with you because you were a woman before they will feel the same way now.”
“That’s for me to worry about,” she shrugged unbothered. “Just sign these papers so we can go our separate ways. This shit can end up real ugly, but I’m taking the chance to end it with us both walking away without bad blood.”
“I’m not signing shit!”
“Why!” she yelled. “You don’t love me, Peter. I don’t think you ever did. You only loved what I could do for you while I was in love. I would’ve done anything for you. When I took that gun charge I thought you would’ve realized my loyalty to you, but you ain’t loyal to nothing but yourself and the money.”
As angry as I was, I took the time and thought about everything she said. I did love Yvette and appreciated that she saw a lot of things in me no one else did. That was one of the reasons why I made her my wife.
“I loved you, Yvette. I don’t understand why you feel that way. I cheated, but that doesn’t trump how I felt for you. Things just got out of control with Corryn because you weren't around and she was. I’ve learned my lesson.
I took my chance on walking up to her and she let me in her space so I wrapped my arms around her.
“How can you give up on us after all that we’ve been through?”
When I felt her body relax in my embrace I knew I had her until a car pulled up quickly stopping in front of us.
