The roses Cal had been holding before Nana escorted her into that brilliant white light. That light of love and joy.
Whitney stared at the bouquet on her desk. A thank you gift from a ghost, though Whitney didn’t deserve to be thanked. If anything, she should be thanking Cal. For bringing her together with Bruce. For connecting her with a young trans man who needed her expertise. For helping her to understand the world a little better.
When she touched the roses, their silky petals put her at peace. She said, “Thank you, Cal,” and she meant it from the bottom of her heart.
